We really enjoyed visiting this magical place and would recommend it so long as you don’t mind a bit of a hike and a scramble. We were lucky in that the ground was dry, but we could see that it would be very muddy if it had rained much recently. We’re fairly fit and nimble, though middle aged, but still much appreciated the use of the sticks provided to help one along the way. We took swimming things with us and had no trouble finding a spot to change in. Swimming in the pools was delicious, colder than the sea, but not unpleasant and we were lucky enough to have the pools to ourselves.
We accepted the services of Warren, who was a very good guide. I wouldn’t say that a guide is essential, but if you’re not super young and fit, it’s good to have someone to lend a hand if needed. Additionally, Warren was knowledgeable about the environment and happy to talk about life in that part of the country. Some of his stories, particularly about the alleged antics of Mona monkeys, needed to be taken with a pinch of salt, but we found chatting to him entertaining and informative. He also performed spectacular dives down both waterfalls for us. We paid him $15US which we considered a fair rate for the time spent and service provided.
