“Interesting but rather dreary and lacking in facilities.”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

It is interesting to watch the boats come and go and to encounter local life but really finding anywhere adequate to eat or drink and any facilities is difficult.

“Lots of local colour”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

The carenage is currently being revitalised as a result of the huge marina development across the water. It where the locals go to shop. The Nutmeg Restaurant (closed in spring 2013) remains one of the most popular drop off points and taxi ranks.

TIP - if you plan to explore the town, get your taxi to drop you off either at Fort George, overlooking the harbour or the rebuilt Catholic Cathedral. All the walks are gently downhill from those starting points - a real blessing in the Caribbean heat!

“the beach at the end of the world.....”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

I was told by a friend that he thought this was one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. We took a bus ride to the end of the island, got dropped off and told to follow the path. It was lined on both sides with conk shells. easy to find and then-oh my, paradise again. The rusty abandoned huge ship fits right in. Just beautiful and no one but us on the whole beach. Perfection.

“Lovely deep water harbour”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

An interesting harbour with loads of activity and local street life. Check out the air conditioned telephone boxes. From this area you can get a ferry to the island of Carricou and even some more touristy trips such as the Rhum Runner. Whilst walking around the harbour we even managed to see a sea snake swimming in the clear harbour waters.

“Spice up your camera!”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Great place to find your fish, any souvenirs, roti's and some camera action! Make sure you have your camera's ready, because I could not take enough! The Carenage is filled with buildings stacked on top of the mountain from top to bottom. The steep, steep roads give you a great work-out, but once you reach the top, the scenery is very unique and gorgeous! Definitely a place to roam around for half/full day while on the island.
