Just returned with husband from Cayacoa in late March. Beautiful resort and weather. I was surprised at how good the buffet food was and tons of choice! The A la cartes were also very well done. Just the snack bar was a bit disappointing but it was also out of the way so we didn't visit it often. Many people speak of the beaches being less than hoped, but I thought it was great to have two. Less crowded and you could choose between active or secluded. Plus I liked seeing the locals there on their weekends. The pool and drinks were awesome (lattes!!) and rooms all had lovely views, beds were quite hard though. Lost power once or twice but we didn't really even notice. The wifi was a bit annoying as it was so limited but at least there was one free option.
The staff were all pleasant and accommodating, in particular the entertainment staff. Luis and his crew (Fernando, Massiell, Veronica, Carlito, Carlos and Caroline) were fun, energetic, really original and good at remembering names. Bingo and Luis' costumes were a highlight of our holiday. I would say that the "stretch" class on the beach would really benefit from being a bit earlier so that it's not so hot and also a bit of yoga training to make it more authentic.
BE AWARE that they do try to hold Time Share meetings under subterfuge but at least you get a free massage. And there are A LOT of stairs- but we are young and loved burning off calories.
Samana itself was gorgeous! Fun people, lovely beaches, tropical forests and great produce. They really are trying to improve their area and education. All in all, we would return for sure.

Room Tip: All nice but above the patio (facing town) is a little noisy at night.

We just returned home after a 7 days vacation from March 21st-29th. All I can say is I will now book 10 days. This place is amazing. I've read that it is going to be family as of May but note when speaking with staff, they stated they do this generally from May until Oct/Nov each year. It then reverts back to Adults Only.
We cannot say enough about the staff, food nor service that we had. We met many new friends. Our room was amazing #517. Room was always clean. Do not go to the villas; there is a musky smell in the room #2105 and as you head down there via shuttle you'll smell the holding tanks. We were initially placed there as we were informed that they were the best rooms. They're not!.. beautiful but the main building is the place to be if you like some action. Villas were very quiet. The staff were very accommodating. Love Sterling, Louis, Carlos and many many more. Pool view was amazing!!! View in all was amazing!! public beach was amazing.. we did not swim in the bay area. *you need water shoes there.
As for the town of Samana - beautiful --don't let the locals be your tour guide - they follow you once you make contact and then will bring you to their friend where they make a commission.
Be nice but stern if you want to walk on your own. Note == Columbus rum is $8.00 at the airport not the $15 or $10 that the vendor tries to get out of you lol. Note to self, watch the centre round about barrier as I tripped and fell on my butt LOL. No accessibility in the town and I am mobile.
Also the motor boat catamaran to Los Habitas -- not worth the $95.00 because it is a motor with sitting area of 4 to a seat, it is not your typical catamaran that you can stand up, dance, walk around etc. although I heard that they do offer this catamaran. The view is beautiful, ride beautiful but once you see one cave you've seen them all. I have beautiful pics here. You may be told by your travel representative that you will have a drink (rum, beer ) included with your lunch -- note it is not. You only receive free water, pop with your lunch. On the boat, you are offered only Rum, Coke, Sprite and water. After lunch you will have the opportunity to swim at the beach on the island (Levantado) but once you attempt to put your belongings on a beach chair someone will run up to you and state you must pay $5.00 per chair. We were approached with this amount whereas others were approached to pay $8.00 -- then $5.00 ---- then $1.00... the individual said "hotel rules" when questioned. The travel representative said "the bars on the beach own the chairs for rent and are not part of the Cayo Levantado resort". It would have been nice to have been told this prior to going on the excursion. I know it sounds petty but the point is not all information was provided prior to the excursion. Note -- the people running the excursion were very nice and tried their best.
Overall -- great trip!!! great staff!! GREAT NEW FRIENDS!!! We travelled in a group of 4 and we would all definitely return. :-)

Room Tip: RM 517!!! excellent views over the pool area.. Do not sleep over the terrace (Lobby bar). Apparently...

Enjoyed a relaxed week March 20-27/14 at Cayacoa. A very scenic and peaceful location. Had a basic room with a king bed. Clean, comfortable but spacious. Bathroom average but a small vanity so had to store bath needs on the shelves in the closet. Great buffet as well as a la carte. Drinks were not watered down and the wine was quite enjoyable. Beach area is not one of those with powder sand and turquoise water that goes for miles. One area is more sandy and lively, while the other is more on an alcove/bay. Quiet but a good place to snorkel. We did not use the pools as we prefer the ocean. To mention that the beaches are not owned by the resort, so the public has access and the locals do come. There is security but it is to prevent access to the amenities of the resort (pool, bar, restaurant, washrooms, water sports). This would not prevent me from returning. But I would take into consideration that there are a lot of stairs on the property. (There is a golf cart that circles for pickup). Our one complaint was the internet access. Allowed 1 hour per day, BUT once you connected you had to use it all at that time. Could NOT access for 30 minutes in the morning, log off and reconnect in the evening for the remaining minutes. For us, this was an inconvenience. However overall, truly recommend this location. You can even walk downtown, or take the shuttle. Worth a visit. We also took a boat to the sister resort, Bahia Levantado, for a change of scenery. Wow, the beach was amazing. This one had the beautiful white sand and turquoise water, and great for snorkeling. It is on an island, so it is a bit secluded and isolated. In conclusion, had not visited Samana before and very pleased we did. We chose this resort as it was for adults only, however, we were told it will be converted to family in May. For that reason, we would not return.

Bahia Principe Cayacoa, Samana Dominican Republic, March 15-29.
Definitely, one of the nicest vacations we have experienced for a Caribbean island destination. The hotel is well appointed, the food especially at the main building buffet is excellent. We tried the a la carte the first week but decided the buffet had theme nights which offered a more varied selection. The staff at the buffet restaurant were very friendly and most attentive to their guests. Dadys, the Maître de was exceptional and took care of us like family. All the main buffet restaurant staff were great but certain smiling faces I recall like: Yulianna, Dania, Ricarda, Yissel, Brenda, Jesus, Empressita and Dolce. The front desk personal like Sterling and Danny were very helpful with the internet access and our room accommodations. Jamelina, our maid, was so sweet and cleaned expertly. Special mention should be made to acknowledge Luis, one of the members of the entertainment team. His ingenious impersonations were a constant source of amusement for everyone. His boundless energy is to be admired.
The only thing, I should mention to the "beach lovers" out there, is the fact that it is a "public" beach and the "adults only" qualification does not always apply. The beach is very small and to get a chair in the shade, you have to become one of those early risers who reserve a chair. My hero, my husband, always seemed to find me a safe, shady haven. Even hiding in the shade, I still managed to get a tan. Swimming was wonderful with a sandy, shallow walkout. The water was warm and always showed a different character each day; calm one day and wavy the next. The bonus for me was, there were no pesky bugs anywhere day or night and breezes prevailed most days so you always felt comfortable.
Fortunately, we had accommodations in the main building due to mobility issues. The rooms are very small, well supplied but if you look out onto the pool, forget about your afternoon siesta. The villas on the other hand are very spacious and quiet with their own pools, a better lunch buffet restaurant and you can order up a shuttle to the main hotel lobby. Overall, you will not be disappointed with your stay here and it is one of the few places we would return to.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms in the main building for convenience and the villas for a quiet setting with larger...

Great food, great staff. Not one complaint - except that we had to come home. The Animation Team - Caroline, Daniel, Massiell, Carlitos, Fernando, Veronica, Carlos and especially Luis were great. Alba, Evelyn and many more whose names we cannot remember were wonderful. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Sea view was great.

Just returned from a 7 day vacation, with a Group of 5 . Sumana is a very Scenic place and Grand Bahia Cayacoa is built into a Mountainous Area, with many stairs and path's going to the different parts of the resort. An elevator to the beach which sounds strange, but fit in perfectly. We were in the main building, first floor which was great, as we were close to everything. The staff were amazing and the resort was spotless. Great value for the $$$. We did check out all the other area's of the resort and they all looked lovely. If walking was a problem a mini bus was only a few minutes away. We loved all the food. Nice variety at the buffet. We did have an issue with Hot water which they need to work on. Beach was small, but clean and inviting with lots of places to get in the shade. Even Cabana Bed's, washrooms and a snack Bar, drink Bar.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main floor are closer to everything.

First time to the Dominican, and will definitely come back to this resort. The staff could not do enough for you and were always smiling, learned our names on day 1 and always greeted us by name...from Louis and Carlitto to Yisselle, Yulianna, Mirell, Alba, Santa, Edwin, Carlos and on and on. When you walked out to the pool you were greeted by name, the same when you went to eat at the buffet. The food was excellent at the buffet and the a la carte restaurants were good as well (the Itallian was just ok) but the the others excellent! Our biggest fear was that we would get sick ... no one did, nor did we hear of anyone else at the resort during our stay. Hotel was super clean, walked in on our maid cleaning one day and she even had the dressers pulled out washing the floors behind them. Staff were always painting the railings or various parts of the building, always working on something.

The beach was nice, small but nice staff were always raking the sand and keeping things nice water was clear. Never seemed to be any snorkeling equipment available we would bring ours next time, but did manage to get out one day. Activities on the beach ranged from Archery, Bocce ball and table tennis Louis, Carlitto and Mirell rounded everyone up and got them involved...lots of fun in the mornings, then to the main pool after lunch for bingo and "crazy games". Or you could have a quiet time at the other pools or at the beach, as we did some days.

When we were leaving the staff gave us hugs, and we felt that they were truly sad to see us leave. Hope to go back soon.

The adults only was great! No kids running around made for a nice quiet trip for my adult daughter and I to relax.

Room Tip: Rooms were very clean and comfortable, we were in the main building on the 4th floor, it was close t...
