“Second Visit....Perfection again!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

We visited the hotel for 1 week in October 2011 and have just returned from there November 4th. We travelled with a group of 10 people ranging in age from 2 - 62. I emailed the resort a few weeks before to request certain rooms and when we arrived we were upgraded .The staff and management could not do enough for us. They even prepared a light buffett prior to our late flight .The grounds are beautiful and very clean. Food was excellent, the buffet was always hot and wonderful selections and never any lineups. The ala cartes were excellent and the service was amazing. We have returned home and decided to book another week for the spring and cannot wait to see the wonderful staff that work so hard at this hotel. We highly recommend it to anyone. This was our 19th all inclusive vacation and by far its our favorite resort. We usually stay in the Bahia Principe chain and by far, this hotel is the best.We have heard it will be adults only by March of 2013, which is probably best. All of the rooms we had with our group were excellent and they gave each of us a hospitality suite to use prior to our late flight which we apprieciated very much. A special thanks to Indianna, Alexis, Jonathan , Migel, Joel, and Jose from the Don Paublo. These people make the vacation!!! They are the friendliest staff at any hotel we have ever stayed at and we cannot wait to return to see them all. Enjoy

We had an amazing time at this resort. It was our second time to this Bahia Principe, but have been to others in the same chain. The is one of the most amazing resorts and the people treated us with the most respect. The Dominican people get up every day and go to work with a smile on their face and your comfort was their biggest concern.
We had an upgraded room on the 4th floor with a king size bed, a jacuzzi tub, and separate shower. A huge balcony and lots of closet space. The buffet had the best food so hats off the the chefs in the buffet. They always had hot food, and would cook for you fresh. Two pools, and a fantastic beach. If you want a relaxing holiday this is the place to go. The boat ride from the mainland to the island is about 10 to 15 minutes and is great. We went in the daytime to the resort with the sun shining and the scenery beautiful. The ride back was at night and equally breath taking. The a la cart restaurants we visited the Don Pablo and the Mediterranean and the food and the service was amazing. Jose Luis Rodriques will take good care of you in the Don Pablo, and his staff are the best. The people in the buffet Elias, Cesar, Joel, Victor, Maria, Melissa, Jonety, Janeley, Pedro will all make your dining perfect.
Jonathan is the animation director and will make you most welcome. He runs the shows in the evening and they are great. He will escort you on the boat tour around the island. Miquel will deliver your pool drinks, Luis will pour you any kind of drink at the pool bar with a big smile.
Dayra was the lady that cleaned our room and she also did it with grace and a smile. This is truly a wonderful resort to visit. I highly recommend and we will be back for sure. Bahia Principe is the best chain of hotels.

Room Tip: We had an upgraded room in the hotel part. They also offer villas, however I prefer the hotel. The...

After trawling trip advisor looking for a safe holiday bet in the Dominican we stumbled across the Gran Bahía Príncipe Cayo Levantado. The feedback scores are between 4 to five stars for this hotel, so we ignored the odd groan and gripe and went to see for our selves.

Departed Gatwick: 8 - 9 Hr flight dependent upon tail or head winds
Airport the other side small efficient no thrills, no problems.

Coach trip from the airport to the resort: I will be frank, is not as stated, its approximately 3 and half to four hours. The coach, modern air conditioned with facilities and free chilled bottled water, no complaints but for those who dont travel well its a consideration, as its adds up to long round trip, however stay with me because its very worth it. As I understand schedule flights will be changing from the southern based airport name forgotten apologies, to Samana International from May to October next year, which will mean only 45 minute transfer...bingo !! So anyone looking to book next year can ignore the added stress of a long transfer. If this swings you from no to yes, I would confirm with either the hotel or the operator before you book.

Coach to Boat: When you eventually arrive at the coast, you transfer to a small boat that ferrys you to the island. Its about a 20 to 30 minute wait, unload, load and 10 minute ride to the island.
Very efficient and well organised. More chilled water !!

The Hotel & Island:
Exceptionally clean and the beautiful hotel grounds are well maintained every day. The Hotel is rated as a 5 Star, if I was to be critical and to quote another traveler I think its fair to say that parts of it are 4 star plus, and others 5 star ! That is, parts are a little tired as you you would expect but importantly still in very good condition. The word tired can conjure up a lot of negative perceptions in these reviews, my experience was that when the hotel was first completed the build and finish must of been outstanding. For example the hotel itself the lobby, the restaurants. pools are immaculate.

The high usage areas, i.e."the rooms" have been well maintained but they are not out of the box brand spanking new. I do not believe many people would have reason to complain. Luxurious sizes for junior suites, our first night we spent in a Junior Suite the bedroom was almost 6 mtrs by 6 mtrs, the balcony half as much and the bathroom almost the same size as the balcony ...huge. However, please note I guess with all hotels you are going to get a more preferable view from your room compared to others. In our case, we were placed on the side of the hotel that overlooked the laundry area. We stayed 1 night, and upgraded to a superior suite the next day with a sea view.....amazing !!! Someone has very kindly reviewed the hotel site and noted the best villas and suite numbers if you want to try and pin down an actual room. However, the hotel will not guarantee the room availability. So you have to go with an open mind or do some serious haggling. The site has rooms in the main hotel itself and has villas spread across the complex both beach and inland facing.

Staff: Very friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble.
Food: Excellent quality, choice from the hotel. Although we did not eat at the 2 other restaurants on the site which require you to book. Other guests commented that the Mediterranean was slightly better than the Italian, but that's not from this horses mouth.

Drinks: The main hotel offers all branded drinks and a brilliant service. The beach bar, im not so sure the beer is the same quality, however that could be down to the heat. Not quite the same range at the beach but service and smiles non the less. On our trip there was no stampedes at the bar(s), a few people at a time would occasionally drift to and from the bar. Plastic cups a little bit of a downer but other guests took there own containers of sorts.

Pools: Immaculate, Plenty of towels, lounger wars as you would expect, towels at the dead of night appear from nowhere on preferred sun/shade spots. Importantly for those of enjoy tranquility, no blaring music. There is a little background beat of some description but hardly noticeable.

Entertainment: Locally provided, we didnt really observe but passed by after evening dinner. Pleasant, your not going to see the Chinese state circus here, just as you would expect local people providing a reasonable atmosphere for you to unwind a little before bed.

Other Stuff: Taxi services, the complex is on a very small mini ring road 700 to a 1000 mtrs max.
Dial 0 from your room a seconds later the buggy arrives to whisk you off to where ever, fun !
Free room service, the food quality was a 4 out 5 here, nothing major but to be fair I have yet to find really good quality room service maybe im picky. Dont go for nachos they are a little rubbery !! Club sandwich reasonable, the cakes are to die for. The water sports hire was free if you booked, included kayaks, snorkel gear, wind surfer and small twin hull cat.

Animation Team: Very good, hours of beach volley ball made my trip a load of fun. They run all the usual activities and are a joy to be with. We didnt take children but there are facilities and assistance to hand all very very close to the beach.

Finally the island means no traders, traffic or other hassle that you deal with or accept as part of a holiday. Nor does it perhaps offer exciting night life, attracting large groups of men and women. Just familys, couples and the odd solo traveler looking to get away from it all.

This is a unique little paradise !! 9 out of 10

The Bahia principe, Samana, Dominican Republic is the best choice for a holiday, however in my case a honeymoon that my new wife and I will never forget for many good reasons!
Lets start at the beginning, we flew with Thompson and upgraded to their premier class which I highly recommend for the 9 hour flight. All drinks and meals included, newspapers, nice bag of products for your journey including touch brush, you also get a massive selection of films and your own dedicated cabin crew! Worth the price for 150 per person each way. The transfer from the airport  in the Dominican is loooonnnnnggggg! Do not be fooled! It took us almost 5 hours, not what you need after being seated so long on the plain. We couldn't really see the hotel when we arrived after the 7 min boat ride but when you wake up in morning (probably 5am Dom time because your body clock is messed up) my God what a place. It is like the staff call it.....Paradise! White sandy beaches with palm tress leaning toward the sea on a tiny island surrounded by beautiful turquoise water.
Before we left for our honeymoon I contacted the hotel and asked them to make our stay as best as possible. This resulted in a complimentary upgrade to a villa which I can only describe as a section of a mansion. The room was huge, one kingside bed with a bath jacuzzi, separate shower and a overly sized balcony. Every room has a mini bar that is filled daily (although a little later than I would like but it gets done) and you are also given a packet of crisps to compliment your beer, spirit and soft drink collection. Room service come twice a day, once during the day and then again in the evening to turn down.
Whilst on the subject of drink, there is a brilliant little shack bar on the beach within the resort where they do loads of cocktail, not just the standard ones we are used to at other all inclusive resorts!
The food in the main restaurant is good and I could have happily eaten there every night but like everyone on Tripadvisor you have to try the Don Pablos which is one of the 3 ala carte restaurants on site and the best in my opinion. Walking into one of these restaurants is like going to a 4 - 5 star restaurant in the UK so i now fullly understand why they ask gents to wear trousers and a shirt. You'd look an idiot otherwise. You can book the restaurants as many times as you like!
The pools are of a great standard, not that wifey and I spent much time at them when there is a beach where one of the Bacardi adverts were filmed right on your doorstep! I can't get across how awesome the beach is!
I am now aware that Thomson fly directly to Samana from May through to October. This would mean only a 45 min transfer as opposed to the 4 hour transfer which is definitely worth considering.
Final word, this is an awesome destination and is so worth visiting.
Burger rating.

Don't use the baps, cut yourself some fresh loaf.

Room Tip: If you can get an upgrade to a villa overlooking the beach then do,

Myself and fiancee stayed here in October 2012. Overall I couldnt fault this holiday the only thing that wasnt great was the weather as we got the back end of hurricane Sandy but thats just luck of the draw.
The boat journey from main land to the island is no longer than 10 minutes and when you first arrive you are greeted by staff and handed a warm towell and cocktail to freshen up.
Every day the food was spot on in the buffet..never ate anything that tasted horrible. Even the buffet resturant near the beach had great food.
The don pablo a'la carte resturant was nice but didnt think much of the italian as the pizza was not half as good as the pizza in the buffet.
We was fortunate to get upgraded to the villa's and let me tell you they are beautiful! They have a large lounging area with a huge bed, his and hers sinks, jacuzzi bath a huge shower and the best of all a large balcony with a jacuzzi hot tub :-). The mini bar was stocked up every day without fail and the maids do a great job cleaning and tidying the room.
The staff were also great I havent got a bad word to say about them. They were always kind and conciderate and couldnt have done enough, from the bar staff to the waiters/waitress's even to the maintainence guys as soon as a leaf fell from a tree they were there pickin it up. They always tried to ensure that we had the best time whilst we were there!
The location was ok but being as our plane didnt fly to samana we had a 3 and a half hour transfer from puerto plata but it wasnt to bad. If the samana airport was open then it would have been much better.
The beach was beautiful..one of the best I have been too..nice white sand with crystal clear water. The pools were nice and also the jaccuzi area was nice and relaxing too.
The entertainment was good and had something going on every night..the animation team were also great fun with activities going on throughout the day.
The spa was beautiful..even though it costs extra I felt it was worth it and would highly recommend trying it out.
The buggies that take you around the island were a great help as the island is quite hilly and when its late at night and you have had a few to many cocktails these are a god send :-).
There are some decent excursions to do I would highly recommend sunset katameran.
As I said at the start overall this is a great place to go to. If your looking for a holiday with your partner for a romantic get away then this is for you. If you have kids especially young kids then I would say this isn't the type if place to go to. I think they are making it Adults only in May 2013 anyway.
Hope this review helps.
Thanks

We have been a this resort for one week beginning october 27, 2012. We enjoy this place. The service is excellent. Jose at the Don Pablo is the best server of all. We have been 16 times in the caraibes and JOsé was really the best. For the resort, its a wonderful place, relax and peaceful... The restaurants were amazing especially the restaurants a la carte... Don Pablo being the best, The meditarian the second and the italian the third... Again in every restaurants including the buffet, the service was exceptionnel... The people were friendly and happy to serve you... we really enjoy this... The buffet was not big but was very quiet and the choice of meal was very good. The paella at the pool restaurant was very good. It a must return to resort. The room was amazing too. We had a good vacation.
