“chilled and relaxed this is the Island of RELAX TRANQUILITY”
Reviewed September 7, 2011

Stayed at Cayo with my wife during early August, so much to say on this resort it has a feel of exclusive privacy surrounding the island as to more expensive resorts we have stayed at "Value for money" hard to beat with this quality feel and PERSONAL service
A beautiful well kept resort with trees, palms ,flowers in abundance , Always see staff cleaning ,
Accomodation is more private and romantic if you chose Villas our preference sea view
1st floor recomend villa 4 as has a lovely walk to hotel reception or get the " buggy" .The beaches where not the best we experianced but fine for relaxing and shade as natural trees . We found the food in MainBuffet good and Don Pablo V Good no problems with any tummy issues , Drinks where top shelf if you requested with a good selection,
We found Beds comfortable and no room issues ,95% Staff all very pleasent and made us feel like royal guests " the odd dollar tip helps " they are on a very low wage so the
little thank you's help them ,A spot on holiday made by other guest we met and we will return one other year .

We had 1 problem which was some building works in main building which after speaking with reception they moved us to a villa " Issue dealt with proffesionaly & prompt , THANK YOU TO ALL AT CAYO FOR YOUR VERY HARD WORK,.........

Room Tip: Villas as sea facing are more private and my sugestion to book these Villa 4 top floor

Stayed there between July 22-29, 2011
Overall, a very good experience and was generally quite satisfied. Will definitely return
Excellent service from the ferry ride, front desk personnel, waitresses, doctors and hotel staff in general.
In particular, Miguel and Luis from the beach and pool bars and Virginia from the lobby bar were excellent. The buffet staff were very attentive and helpful
Very scenic resort, quiet and relaxing, never felt crowded
No beach towel games...could always find beach chairs anytime of the day
3 different pools with lots of spaces available
Air conditioned lobby

Samana region not very developed and is a long drive from the airport (not the fault of the hotel)
Only one buffet with limited variety and no air conditioning (stayed at the GBP Esmeralda in Punta Cana last year and the food quality was much better there)
There are basically 2 beaches, but one is extremely rough and not suitable for swimming. However, the calm beach always had enough room for everyone
Games room could use some improvement, especially for rainy days
A la carte reservation a bit disorganized and could only book one at a time on that particular day

Room Tip: Book one of the villas

Just got back today but couldn't wait to post this.

Even though we encountered Hurricane Irene whilst staying we had a fantastic holiday. The staff and management go that extra mile to make your stay memorable. They coped very professionally when the hurricane hit and kept us informed and safe.

The location of the hotel is stunning. The food is very good.

I would advise paying extra for a sea view room as the garden rooms are overlooked from the walkway. We had a superior deluxe villa with a jucuzzi on the balcony. The view across the bay from our room was breathtaking.

I would return to Gran Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado in a heartbeat.

My husband & I went last Oct. To celebrate our 25th...we normally go for 2wks but this time was 1 because it was our 3rd week down south in 6months...so Bahia Principe CL was a bonus surprise wonderful trip..first off the drive,we quite enjoyed for it's the prettier side of the Dominican.Baracadi Island is quite beautiful and I dare to say that the resort on the island lovely maybe the smallest and prettiest of the Bahia resorts.( we've been to Bahia's in Punta Cana &mexico 8wks worth)....yes the service on the beach is great with red flag service but no fear the bar is close...our room was very nice( best room of the bahia's yet)
and the view we had from our balcony was breathtaking of Samana Bay...the grounds are beautiful and the staff all very nice with special mention to....Angel,Elvis and many more that I once again forgot names. The beach is not the best for walking however the property is.My worst complaint for this resort would have to be the buffet....I'm a foodie person and come from a long line of great cooks I know that improvements could be made in the food area.I would recommend this little paradise to anyone wanting to get away to a unique, guiet small resort..the Dominican people are beautiful people....we partied most nights with the staff at the beach.....entertaiment could also improve.....but some of the staff is entertaining just to talk with.It has the personal feel and remember the most beautiful views watching Samana Bay.Bahia Principe Cayo Levatado is a must see for everyone.

Mixed review on this place.

Buffet Food: Not good. Bland.

Other restaurant food: Okay, some is good, some is not. Not much variety.

Ambience: Nice/Romantic

Beds: Like sleeping on a board. If you are anal about your bed, then you will not be comfortable here.

Bugs: Expect huge ones because you will likely find them in your room, including huge spiders (and by huge, I mean 4 inch wide including legs which is what we experienced).

Beach/Water: Beautiful

Entertainment: Pretty good, great effort.

Rooms: Outdated, not luxury level.

Scenery: Spectacular

People: All Europeans and Canadians.

Service: Pretty good

Weather: Rainy during the months of Aug - Oct, as expected

Overall: I would not consider this a luxury hotel, as compared to many other beach hotels I've stayed at. To me, a luxury hotel should primarily be defined by the rooms/beds and the food. Neither of these is luxury level here. It is, however, a beautiful location and has beautiful water and beaches. I would not go back.

Absolutely stunning place, lovely grounds, clean pools, georgous beaches and superb food and staff.

Our fan stopped working after a heavy down poor but within 15 minutes of phoning the reception they came and installed a new fan.
Superb service.

I dont understand the petty things that some people moan about.

Oh and wifi everywhere.

Room Tip: we staying in villa 4, lovely view.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we could not have chosen anywhere better.
The rooms were spacious, very clean and very well equipt.
The staff were very friendy and very helpful.
The food was fantastic, so much variety and perfectly cooked.
I would definitley reccomend the island to everyone, not only is the resort beautiful it also has a great atmosphere with all of the guests getting to know each other and enjoying good times at the bar.
We are even considering returning in the next couple of years with the rest of our family to celebrate my father in-laws 50th birthday.
