We very much enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very helpful in getting us everything that we needed to include contacting outside companies for different events we had booked. The beaches were beautiful and well kept. The drinks were good, limited in variety and you did mostly have to go get your own from the beach bars, as the staff was busy cleaning up and bar tending (which I didn't mind). The restaurants were very good. Wait staff was a bit overwhelmed during peak hours and that did cause slow service to include waiting over 20 mins for a glass of water. Perhaps avoid eating during peak times (and an advisement to the hotel--your restaurants need to be better staffed). The pool areas were nice and clean although I could smell chlorine from a ways away. Perhaps because I'm allergic to it did I notice it so much. Our room was very nice and we greatly enjoyed our bedding and shower, very spacious. Very grateful for A/C as well. The internet seemed to work best on the beach and in the lobby. It was very spotty in our room, with minimal service. Overall, we had a good time and got our bang for our buck.

Stayed at this 'Adults only' hotel in the middle of June.
My husband and I was greated with a cocktail drink and got checked into our room, it was lovely and big inside, with a large bed and hot tub.

It smelt damp and musty, and we had to leave the air con on all day to stop it smelling so bad.

The food was ok, quiet alot to choose from with the different restrants on site, though the chicken was often pink inside that i ordered, so i couldnt eat it, and the staff was slow bringing food to you.

Even missed my order on more than one accession.

The pools was nice, had to put a towel down on the beds early or you wouldnt get a space, but you couldn't relax due to all the loud drunks around you all day. shouting, swearing, drinking cocktails in the pool, it has a swim up bar yes, but you wouldnt think people would just stand in the pool drinking it.
People would just leave the drinks around the pool. And i didnt enjoy swimming, i had to go to the shallow beach.
It was embarrassing just being there!
You know you're at the best holiday complex when the people are throwing up, being carried to the hotel reception in a wheelchair, people asleep on the sun beds due to too much drink, couples arguing, big groups of people in the pool shouting and screaming at each other bcos, their all drunk. YEAH my type of holiday! Just the type of people I want to be near during my holiday!

An absolute waiste of our holiday having to look at your drunk facesnevery day! I couldn't wait to leave this hotel and We was so glad to be home away from it too.

This whole holiday was ruined, myself and other couples I was speaking to thought the same.

The only thing I enjoyed was the beach as it was peace and quiet there, but soon as you start to walk back near the complex you see people falling over or throwing up!

If you want to go to this hotel, then be prepared to witness this on your stay. Bring your own food, medicines and a good set of head phones to block out the loud mouths, then I'm sure your have a good stay!

First time to Catalonia and Dom. Rep. for the 3 couples. We were there for 6 nights. We booked through Berwick Travel and used Kelly as our agent. This is our third time using Berwick and Kelly. Everytime it goes smooth as possible and they have the lowest prices (did a time share tour and told the salesman the price i paid, he kept saying it was a great price!). Berwick set us up with a private airport transfer with Olympus. No problems here either way!
Arrived at 1pm and couldnt get into the room til 3. They let us eat at the restauraunt by the lobby. Had the chicken and mashed potatoes which was prettty good. Someone sent us a shot of rum, let me say it was one of the strongest shots i have ever had!!
After lunch we met with one of Olympus' reps.that was letting us know about the hotel and the excursions available. We ended up buying an excursion to Saona Island (which is totally worth it).
Room was pretty decent. Had a huge bath tub next to the bed. Bed was ok. We were in building 42 which was half way between the beach and the lobby, close to the pool though.
Beach was beautiful. Had lots of chairs and trees available. Never had a problem getting a chair no matter what time of day.
Food at the buffet was just ok, Lots to choose from but not all that great, average at best, but oh well, I wasnt there for the food. Steak house was really good and Italian restaurant great! Lunch at the restaurant by the beach was really good too. Had the pork chop and cheeseburger and both were really good.

Now the negative of the resort are-
1 Small portions (just order double),
2 Slower service (its the Caribbean, they are laid back and not in a hurry)
3 Little pushy on selling excursions and activities (its their livelyhood, Just tell them no and they will leave you alone)

Stayed at the Catalonia Royal March 26 to April 5-10 days and it was amazing! We chose this resort because of the golf inclusion and the adults only feature. The food was good at every restaurant we tried. We golfed 5 times at the Cabeza Del Toro course attached to the resort. One complaint is that they moved the dedicated 'club house' for golf reservations and for the starter to an area too far removed. It is now over by the gym and wasn't always open? There was confusion each time we went out to golf for the payment for the carts. That would easily blow 30 minutes of our time before we even got into the carts. Another feature that would be so nice is that you could take your cart back to the Royal side to unload clubs? We did it a few times but security hassled us? After 18 holes of golf in the heat last thing you want to do is haul clubs from one hotel to the other and to your rooms. Something I think management should review along with better organization with payment and starters. The course was in very good shape and challenging. The beach at the Royal was beautiful and very peaceful, not like the hotel zone at all. The pools were very nice and the pool bar staff great, drinks flowed freely. Loved the pizza snack bar and it was a nice touch that it was converted into the Thai restaurant in the evening. Beach party night was a ton of fun! Only went to the sister hotel once or twice to see the entertainment, preferred the adults only and atmosphere of the Royal. Rooms-we were on the third floor with a view in between the private pool rooms and the massage hut. That was nice as it felt a little more private, our family members had a smaller room on the first floor directly across from the pool. They liked the convenience but everyone is different. We used the room service for breakfast quite a few times, it was on time and hot and very good! We initially had hot water issues in our room but once we called a technician came and rectified it. Seems there was hot water but the tap had to be on right spot? LOL not like at home but it was all good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet golf vacation. It may not be as fancy as a Sandals but again the price is not as high. The resort from the pools, beach to the rooms was spotless. Enjoyed the evenings in the piano bar. The food and drink were all good quality and the staff wonderful! Nice relaxing vacation.

First off, ask for your free specials like welcome drink although never received wet towel. Our building flooded and smelled throughout the trip. Did they try to compensate? No! I have never stayed in an all inclusive that each time you walked to the front desk someone was complaining. Basically, they don't apologize nor compensate. The kids side was more alive with more options. Staff overlooked our large groups several times even to get service. Our group tips but they didn't care. Food was mostly American with no taste. We could not get local cuisine. Drinks watered down except fir the beer. Wifi worked better at beach than anyone else. If you want a decent seat on the beach, arrive at 7 am! Also, everything closed so early room service was only option. Staff didn't care if you stayed or not and seemed more of a inconvenience to them. Hotel needs allot if work from broken stairs, water damage, painting, and overall appearance. Even if you speak Spanish, they don't care. Just bit what I expected at all!

Room Tip: There aren't any. Ask fir the newest building,

I really want to rate this resort a 0 due to the following:
Walking into this resort we was not greeted, the first room we checked into smelled like must and mold, The second room wasn't any better but I was fed up and exhausted to walk to the front desk.. But the sheets was still wet on the bed and smelled like mildew and the cloth hanging over the top of the bed had mold on it. So, I called the front desk and demanded the housekeeping supervisor. She had an attitude and snatched the sheets of the bed. On the 3rd day our Villa (#38) flooded. No notice, no apologies, no nothing.
The food:
If you are a foodie / picky eater / still have taste buds.... let me just say the only good ting to eat on the entire resort (BOTH SIDES) is the pizzeria , the Italian restaurant, rooms service is hit or miss and the pool side buffet. Take stomach meds ... trust me you will thank me later if you have no other choice but to stay at this resort.
Hospitality:
Maybe if you book through their site they would treat you like VIP's or even with a little respect but we needed extra wash clothes and called the front desk about it and was told to walk to the front lobby restroom and get some from there... YEA I'M SERIOUS. The language barrier is crazy, normally the workers at the resorts know enough English to try to understand but NO HABLA INGLES was used alot around here.
Activities:
WAIT WHAT'S THAT... even though this is an adults only resort their was no activities during the day, even the ones they have on the weekly calendar they give to you. We went to play Bingo and was told the lady wasn't there. The bars close extra early, which gives you no other choice but to go to the family resort and spend money in the casino.
We spent most of our time of the resort to entertain ourselves. This resort is for people who want to leave their room, sleep on the beach / pool, read, look at electronic devices, and snorkel at a seaweed infested beach.
I am not hard to please but I feel like I just left the Motel 6.

Room Tip: Don't Stay here @ all!

From the moment we walked through their doors, the staff at Catalonia Royal Bavaro treated us like VIP's. Anything we needed or any question we had, someone was right there to help. We had a slight issue with the wifi in our room and they sent a specialist up immediately and within 20 minutes we had our internet back. Every meal was wonderful and the wait staff, especially Jorge Salas of Thalassa Restarante, was very attentative and made sure we were treated very respectfully and promptly. Definitely the best vacation we have had thus far and we plan on coming back again next year. We are now lifers an we owe it all to this wonderful resort and their attention to guest satisfaction.

Room Tip: I recommend getting a room on the second or third floor of any of the villas. This ensures a little...
