“Amazing experience!”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Me and my boyfriend aged 20, stayed here for 2 weeks booked with Thomson.
As soon as we arrived are luggage was taken and we were given cocktails on arrival. The staff were very friendly, we got escorted to our hotel room, we stayed in villa 40, near the spa, ground floor. As soon as we opened the hotel room door we was very pleased, lovely bath tub ans bed, bathroom and nice sittin area. If our balcony got the sun earlier in the day it would have been even better.
Shortly our cases arrived by one of the staff which saves you lugging it to your room in 30 degree heat!

We ate at all the restaurants, our faveourite was the sea blue near the beach. The lobster was lush. Mexican was nice however nothing special. Steak house was good you get a nice big steak, rib eye we would reccommed having! Italian was also very nice, service was efficient. The food in the japaneese was not amazing, however the experience of watching the chef cook in front of you was good.
Tapas was our second faveourite place to eat however we found the staff here quite slow and sometimes drinks orders were forgotton. Thallasa always provided a good meal and the service was exceptional. We loved that you didnt have to reserve a table, and it wasnt repetitive like other hotels you can experience.

The infinity pool is where we mostly spent our time, the pool is more quite, beds are nice. Right next to the beach and the bar does amazing cocktails. Sinencio german who works there was always a right laugh! The beach was nice and people have complained about sea weed but we found the hotel maintained it very well, always clearing up. And compared to the beach down a few hotels it was alot better.

The only thing that we was not pleased about was the maids. They never cleaned our bath or sink. Bed sheets werent changed for two weeks. Floor was hardly cleaned and fridge wasnt filled for 3 days! So this needs to be improved.

We had a couple of problems in our room one being the toilet chain, we told reception and the maintenance men cane straight away and fixed it so no issues there.

A great hotel to stay at if you want relaxation! Overall we were overwhelmed with the place there are really no faults about the facilities they provide and how beautiful it was.

An excellent holiday. Great service, very clean hotel. Great staff. All the facilities were of a high standard. Only drawback was the very firm bed.
The number of restaurants means you are spoilt for choice. Staying at the adult only royal means you have unlimited access to all areas without booking.
We had a fabulous time and would love to have stayed longer.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a couples only holiday.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are great quality.

If you want a beautiful clean resort in paradise with smiling enthusiastic staff, who want you to have a holiday of a lifetime...you have come to the perfect place!

You drive through a palm tree golf course of the neighbouring resort Catalonia Bavaro that you also have access to with its small shopping centre and up to the front door of your holiday!
You walk into a lobby that is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers. From bell boys to the helpful guest services team, everyone welcomes you with beaming smiles. They offer to help you at every possible opportunity to make sure you are comfortable.

In the morning, you are welcomed by the cheerful Jinette and Dominga as you go into Breakfast, who always ask how you are...what a perfect start to your day! You then meet Moises, who is warm and chatty and makes you feel like you are his dearest friend as he asks about your day. He is interested about how you are spending your holiday and we had such a laugh telling him our adventures. Your food, which is excellently prepared is brought to you by Emmanuel, who is professional and polite. You are being spoiled by these people and all of the other various staff members that you encounter any of the days that you stay here at the hotel!

On an additional note, I am a wheelchair user. I was a bit concerned before going to this hotel how I would cope as there was not a lot of information about the accessibiltiy of the hotel online. I do not need a disabled room and am quite independent. However, I was so pleased how helpful staff were to accommodate my idependence. For example, when checking in: Jenny at Concierge was really quick to see the check in desk was going to be really high and impersonal so brought us over to the lower Concierge desk to do check in there. It was so considerate and really meant a lot to us. At meals, staff asked whether I wanted to transfer and where I wanted my chair. People offered to carry things, but aso respected me if I wanted to carry my own stuff. When we struggled with sand (wheelchairs and sand is such a struggle!!!), staff would help my new husband and me. Thankfully in places, there are some paths, but you really need crutches to access the beaches. However pools were very accessible if you can transfer yourself into the pool. Floors in the hotel and in the rooms were very accessible for wheelchairs. Pathways were bumpy but my husband told me it was my massage treatment!! The main lobby toilets entrance was too narrow for my wheelchair and I had to stand, collapse my chair slightly, then sit back down to go down the corridor into the female toilets, which were not disabled facilities. However, in the neighbouring resort, which you have full access to the lobby toilets there did have disabled facilities. So if you have some independence, as a wheelchair user, I would recommend this hotel just make sure you request a ground floor room, becuse there are no lifts/elevators.

We had such a wonderful experience that we are so pleased that we chose this resort for our honeymoon... and they made us feel so comfortable that we look forward to the day that we can return on an anniversary in the future!

Room Tip: There are no lifts/elevators, so if you have any disability or mobility issues request a ground floo...

My boyfriend and I (we are 27 and 28) recently stayed at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro from April 7th to the 13th and we had a great time! If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful vacation then this is a great place to go. Here's what we thought about the beach, resort, food, rooms, and people:

1. The beach is AMAZING. We've been to the Caribbean a number of times, and this beach is the second nicest we've been to. Although it does have a little seaweed, the workers are out constantly sweeping it up and doing their best to maintain. The only other beach I've been to that beats this one is in Negril, Jamaica. Bavaro Beach is quiet, there are hardly no waves, and the water was beautiful. My boyfriend was snorkeling and saw a number of beautiful colorful fish! I do have to say one thing about the palapas along the beach: get up early if you want one! We thought 7:30AM would be ok to find one but we were wrong. Each day we got up at 5:30 and 6:30 to get one. If we wanted front row, we got up at 5:30. If we didn't care, we got up at 6:30. Either way, it's worth it to get up and get one.

2. The resort is beautiful. It's pretty modern and updated, and the workers are constantly maintaining the grounds, pools, and beach. We chose this resort because it's an all adults resort, but it's sister, The Catalonia Bavaro is right next door. They offer more entertainment and restaurants to choose from and it's generally livelier over there considering the amount of people on that side. We were glad we stayed at the Royal though and would never stay at the larger side.

3. The food. When you go to an all inclusive, for the most part the food isn't the greatest, but you can always find something that you like. If you're not picky, you'll be fine. We found the best restaurants to be on the Royal side, with the Sea Blue lunch/dinner spot to be the best. The next best on the list was the Thalassa for dinner, followed by Cata Tapa for dinner. We ventured over to the larger side a couple nights for Hibachi and the steak restaurant Rodeo. Neither were worth leaving the Royal side for. Just understand that they're doing their best to please everyone, and sometimes their version of something you're used to isn't translated the same way foodwise. Presentation was always beautiful though. Stay away from the wine unless you pay for it!

4. Rooms were beautiful. They all had that smell that the Caribbean hotels have, but that's normal. Our room was clean, bed was decently comfortable, we didn't see any bugs except for a few mosquitoes but if you bring bug spray you're fine at night. The rooms were really romantic on the Royal side, with a big tub in every room and soft lighting. There's also hammocks on every patio! We were on the first floor and didn't feel uncomfortable at any time.

5. Lastly, the people and service. The service was awesome - especially Roberto and Luis at the beach bar! They made our trip that much better! Constantly refilling our drinks, making sure we were enjoying our stay, and just always greeting us with a smile! We tipped them for pretty much every drink they made us, which was a lot! But that tip goes a long way, especially since we noticed that most people didn't tip at all. Not to sound rude, but there were more Europeans there than Americans, and we noticed that basically none of the Europeans tipped. Also, they weren't very nice in general unless they were Canadian- they were super nice and so weren't the Americans we met. The only worker that I saw was noticeably unpleasant was the hostess at the Sea Blue lunch/dinner spot.

Overall we had a great time!

Room Tip: Our room was on the inside on the first floor - very quiet and not as humid since heat rises.

My wife and I just returned from our 4th to Catalonia Royal and we were not disappointed. We arrived late in the evening so we didn’t see many staff member at that time. The next morning at breakfast we were greeted like old friend form the wonderful staff. Moises, as always, went out of his way to make us feel right welcome. He was great, made us smile every morning. It was nice to see many of the same faces, it really show the quality of the staff and the quality of management. The front desk staff was wonderful, Angela (I hope that is right) greeted me by name as soon as I walk into the lobby the first morning, which is a pretty cool feeling.

We have stayed at all levels of rooms in past trips, all the rooms are great. This trip we upgraded to the pool villa suite, it was worth every penny. The large private deck and pool are simply the best way to vacation with your love one. It is peacefully, a true vacation from the fast pace life we live.

The food was as great as always. The food and the staff is the main reason we keep coming back. We have already booked our flights back to the beautiful DR in December and will be staying for our 5th time at Catalonia Royal.

thanks again to the management and staff for the wonderful vacation, looking forward to see you again.

we stayed for a week in march, 2013 on the royale side.
our room overlooked the main service road down to the beach. traffic along the road was quite busy with supply trucks during the day. otherwise, the room was great. the housekeeping staff did a great job every day.

the beach was very nice and we were usually able to find a couple of loungers. it's irritating though when people put towels on loungers to reserve them and then don't use them.

we were able to use the dining facilities on both sides of the resort so there was a lot of variety. it was nice not to have to prebook the a la carte restaurants.

the staff in all areas of the resort worked hard to make us comfortable.

just make sure you take a lot of small bills for tipping.
