“Great service and hotel”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Nilza and Moises treated us so well as did all the staff. This is a very friendly hotel to be at. I went back for the second time and enjoyed it as much as the first time. Our room service was great as well. May return again.

Room Tip: I stayed in building 46 which was close to the pool and mail lobby restaurant.

This hotel was so nice for celebrating our honeymoon. The staff was great and kind. The room was very romantic and the turndown service helped keep it that way. The beach is breath taking. Drinks were nice even though at the beach bar they didn't always make them right two times in a row. The food was great and breakfast was filling and with plenty of choices. No doubt a hotel to revisit.

This is a beautiful resort. The grounds on the Catalina Royal and the Catalina side were very well kept. Their were fountains and flowers everywhere. We were there the 1st part of March.

We stayed in building 46 which is by the main lobby and the first pool. Our room was spacious and always clean. Our housekeeper was very friendly and always finished cleaning by the time we came back around 4:00. There were always fresh towels and washcloths and of course the different figurines made out of the towels and flowers. We were on the pool side with a very nice view and it was never to loud and noisy. Our air conditioner was a bit noisy until we figured out how to regulate it. We had it running most of the time so we didn't experience any humidity.

We ate Lobster at Sea Blue twice, enjoyed Cata Tapa's elegance on two occasions, went to the Japanese and Italian restaurants on the family side. We had lunch on the other side at the beach buffet. If you are a fish lover, all of the restaurants offer many varieties and except for the smaller pan fish we enjoyed the fish. There is a crepe restaurant that opens around 4:00 and stays open into the evening which we enjoyed. We have been going to all inclusive's for many years and I feel the food at this resort is of top quality. The only thing I didn't like were the eggs. One complaint we had was lunch at Sea Blue. After we were served, we were ignored & my husband had to get up and ask to be served drinks and dessert.

The beach is very large and has plenty of shade although if you want a Pallappa near the water you need to be there early by 6:00. As other people have mentioned, there is seaweed on the beach but the staff is out early in the morning clearing it out & it stays fairly clean for the rest of the day. I should warn you that if you are an early walker as my husband and I are, you may get bit by sand flies. The day we left we were walking too early and I went home with at least 50 bites on each leg. If you like to snorkel, there is a man made breaker where you will be able to see an assortment of fish. I particularly like that because I could come and go as I wished by just walking out a ways.

I would say my only complaint would be there is no entertainment staff on the adult
side of this resort. Yes, you could go over to the other resort, which was just a small walk, but I would have preferred to have some activity where we were. Their was a piano bar at the royal which we enjoyed the first night but the music was the same the next evening which was became boring. One night there was a Jazz combo at an outside area which we missed because we didn't know about it. After that there was nothing going on any of the other nights we were there. We feel, at the very least, there should be a daily board to let the guests know what activities were going on at both of the properties. .The evening entertainment at the other side was geared for families with children and was pretty much the same as you see at every resort.

If you want to completely relax I would recommend this resort.

Excellent Service, Excellent Food. Lovely beach and two good pools. If you are travelling from UK take a European adapter, as there is one 220V socket in the bathroom that takes a round two pin plug - all others are 110v USA style.
The staff were brilliant from the ones that welcomed you into the restaurants to the guys that cleaned up the beach - all happy to look after you and always with a smile and a friendly wave. The selection of drinks is very good with plenty of international spirits to choose from. The top pool could do with a clean out, but the new infinity pool near the beach is great. We last stayed here 6 years ago before the infinity pool and beach restaurants were built. The Sea Blue restaurant is great for lunch, and serves BBQ Lobster and steak most nights. The Cata Tapa restaurant is superb but get there soon after 7pm as it has limited seating and it fills quickly, but the tables are well spaced and this makes for a relaxed and pampered dining experience. There are also "a la carte" restaurants at the Catalonia next door, and the Japanese and Italian are worth a visit, but the steaks are much better in the Royal's main Thalassa restaurant than the Steak House next door.
We were in one of the original blocks and the rooms are a bit tired with some holes in the black out curtain where it has been trapped in the balcony door, and a few other very minor niggles, but nothing that stopped us from having a fantastic two weeks there. We will be back as soon as we have a suitable gap in our holiday plans!
Well worth taking your golf clubs as the newer 18 hole course is very nicely laid out and quite a challenge. It will be excellent when it is a bit more mature. The 9 hole course is also good, but some of the holes are quite short. It is not easy though as some of the fairways are tight, and the lakes on the course make it interesting and attractive.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool have a nicer outlook, with sun in the morning.

My girlfriend and I spent a fantastic week here. easily one of the best vacations either of us have been on. everything was first class.

First let me start off with room although there were a few cosmetic issues it wasn't anything to complain about the houskeeping staff were amazing super friendly and always helpful.

Second the food I can't say enough about the food both my Girlfriend and I enjoy good food and her being a trained chef she is by far more picky then I. We both enjoyed all the food choices that were offered, our favorite being the Cata Tapa a nice elegant way to try new foods perfect one biters the second favorite was the Sea blue with the grilled lobster. Truly though all the resturants we tried were excellent

Thirdly the beach was amazing. yeah there was seaweed washed ashore but the staff does an amazing job of cleaning it but if seaweed is something that will ruin a vacation for you, you need to seek help.

Fourth if your seeking adventure there are tons of excursions to go on the best one we took was the Segway tour through ECOTOURS so fun.

Fifth the Pools are nicely laid out the one closest to the lobby was the most popular with its swim-up bar more sociable. The second pool closer to the beach was perfect for a more relaxing vibe.

Were there issue of course there was no vacation is ever without them, having the safe in our room go on the fritz was not a great thing but it was handle quickly and all was well.

I do have one suggestion for the management, the piano bar is the one place that stays open later it is however close to the first of the suite buildings. I suggest if possible having a place maybe closer to beach away from the suites so those who stay up later to enjoy the company of new friends don't feel that we are disturbing those that go to sleep earlier in the evening.

I would recommend the Royal to anyone who asks and I already have. And yes I would go back in a heartbeat.

Thank-you to the Royal Cataolina staff for making our stay memorable there are far to many of you to mention but you should all be proud of the excellent work you do from the resturant staff to the house-keeping staff to the grounds keeping staff you are all amazing. We both look forward to seeing you all again hopefully sooner rather then later

We went as a group of 6. It was right after hurricane, Mosquitos were everywhere. I stayed at first floor room and it was super humid. My books in the room became wet like a rag. Pick a room at a higher level if you can. Air conditioning was inconsistent. Between our three rooms, mine had almost no AC, another friend in mid range and another at full blast AC. Wifi was strong in my room but my friends' rooms were weak

Food was good, you get to eat lobster everyday at The outdoor blue grill. Staff were courteous but their English level is low compared to Mexico resorts.

Overall, the resort was great value, much needed improvement
