“Absolutely wonderful spot to go with the family and young kids”
Reviewed February 17, 2009

I can not say enough about how great the resort is to be with young kids. The explorers club is a really fun place for the kids to make friends and also have a number of amazing activities. Parents get a cell phone upon drop off and can drop off/pick up at their leisure. For instance, if at lunch, a kids asks..and asks.. to eat with their friends, the group will always take an extra friend at the buffet.

Our daughter cried once at the club -- when she realized that she was not going to the club the next morning because we were going to be on a flight. Awfully cheesey, but true.

Explorer cllub mornings are always started with a jumping / flipping on the huge tramploline the beach.

The evening begins with the kids singing on stage as a group. The shows are that then follow are ok, but with kids, they become fun. The kids all know each other so well that they prefer to sit on the ground in front of the chairs rather than be next to their families. It is really special to watch an entire group's eyes open wide.

I would recommend this to a new family. And, for the parents, drinks are served on the beach :)

Dreams Punta Cana, Feb 1st - Feb 8th 2009

Stayed at Dreams Punta Cana the first week of February, booked it as a last minute deal. Very nice resort for the money we paid. Thanks to the people who wrote reviews on Dreams Punta Cana as a lot of them were very helpful.
Room.. Got a Deluxe room which is the lowest room category but that’s what you get with a last minute deal .For two people it’s size is fine but any more and it would be a squeeze. Wouldn’t want to see a family of three or four in one of these. Sent an email five days before arriving and we got two of the three requests. They upgraded us to a pool view from a garden view and we got a room on an upper floor. Didn’t get the king size bed but they would have moved us the next day. Told them it was fine, very good service at the front desk. Safe included and easy to program. Maid service was
excellent, the fridge was filled every day. Bathroom had the tub/shower combo with a large vanity with amenities. Hot water came and went during peak time, before supper. Air conditioning worked fine.
Restaurants. World Café was the buffet, air conditioned and excellent service and good food. The Bordeaux (French), El Patio (Mexican), and the Himitsu (Oriental) were all air conditioned while the Oceana ( Seafood ) and the Seaside Grill ( Grill ) were open air. The service and food was fine with one exception. At the Bordeaux our friend ordered an appetizer, a soup and a salad and the waiter told him you could only have two of the three. This took us by surprise. Went to four ala cartes during the week and this was the only place this happened. Put it down as a glich. This was also the only restaurant that didn’t have someone asking how your meal was. Really enjoyed the Mexican. Seafood and Grill restaurants. Didn’t try the Oriental one. No lining up for reservations at
the ala cartes. Just show up and if it is full you get a beeper and are seated at a bar. Waited at two of the four restaurants, the longest wait was 25 minutes.
Bars. Eight bars, earliest is the Lobby bar, opens at 9am. The Show time bar is the latest, open till midnight. Had top shelf liquor and liked the drinks at the lobby bar best.
Beach and Pool. The beach was brown sand with some rocks in the middle of the swimming area. Signs were posted at the beach entrance but would have been easy to miss. We swam on the left side, no rocks. Looking out to the ocean Colony Bay was to the right, no resorts in sight to the left. This was the farthest north we’d been and the ocean seemed rougher. Prefer the beach much farther south. Had no problem finding a lounger and a palapa, can’t reserve before 9am. If you do your towels are taken to the beach bar. Liked this rule very much. Never far from a bar plus waiter service is provided. The only problem was some loungers were in real need of repair, ripped and or very saggy. They had one person doing repairs on these so they are aware of this .Still be very fussy when getting a
lounger. The pool went from near the lobby to the beach. It is three feet deep and has inlets that go up close to some of the villas. Wish it was at least four feet deep. There is a towel hut, snackbar and bar at the middle of the pool location again with waiter service. Bridges link some of the villas with the far side of the pool. Well maintained pool. Loungers seem harder to get here than at the beach.
Activities. All kinds, for adults, teenagers and children. Sundial is a daily info sheet which is left in your room during turn down .It has info on activities, buffet theme for the following night night, drink of the day, info on activities location if it rains etc. Very well thought out. Not many children when we were there. Had the Super Bowl party at the beach the day of our arrival. Two large screens were set up, good pictures of the game. Lots of different food available plus waitresses going around with coolers full of ice cold Presidente. Very well done, lots of fun.
Grounds.. Very beautiful and was more lush than I was expecting. Always cleaning up, beachraked every day etc.
Tips. No Presidente beer in the fridge, only Brahma. Go to the lobby bar and ask for two
unopened Presidente. They will give you them but was told two maximum per person, so we both went up. Ice machine was on second floor in our villa, didn’t see any on the other floors. Room service surprised us. Ordered the continental breakfast and everything was fresh and the coffee was hot. Took 15 minutes to get it. Some people left plates outside the room in the hall, when done just phone them up and they’ll come and get the plates.
Weather.. Dreams has no control over this but the weather was bad for a few days, high winds, with rain on and off. Made the best of it. Dreams bought lots of stuff indoors, opened the theater bar earlier in the day and had more people up front for service. They did the best they could., and that’s all you can ask for.
Summary. No complaints. With what we paid thought we got a steal. The service really stood out for us. Was concerned when booking that this resort would have all English speaking guests at it That wasn’t the case as. We’ve always enjoyed the mix of people from different countries, makes it more interesting. The staff had the most English speaking people we’ve ever had. mostly at the front desk, bars and restaurants. We always try a different resort in the DR but we’re glad we finally tried Dreams. Being beach people we prefer the beaches in the southern area of Punta Cana but this was still a nice resort.

Bad weather but great time. Real good staff. Can't do enough for you. Very friendly. Bartenders at Oceania were the best. Big Guy there Sammy Sosa, and pretty boy real good guys. Plenty to eat and drink , great steaks. No complaint's except for the rain but it wasn't there fault. Can't wait to go back. If your going , take some extra tee-shirts they love American tee- shirts. Gave them 15. Didn't have one to come home.

After reading many reviews I was not sure if I had chosen the right place to stay. This was our 4th time back to the Dominican Republic and this was the 2nd best resort we have stayed at, hard to beat Secrets Excellence, others were Iberostar and Gran Bahia.
We booked through Apple Vacations and getting there was not a problem. Upon checking we were offer an upgrade for $65 US a night so we took it. I am glad we did because the weather did not cooperate at all, we arrived on Thus. it rained Fri. - Tues.
We looked at the possitive, we were in a warm place and not at work. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and beautiful.
The staff at this resort was great, rain or shine they made sure there was always something to do.
Food at the different resteraunts was excellent and never had to wait in line.
Never had a problem getting a chair around the pool or beach:) I did say it rained for 5 days but in the morning there was always a little blue sky for a ray of hope. So we would always start there but to no avail by 11am a storm rolled in.
Pool was nice, huge.
Resort was beautiful.
If you have children or teens, it looked like there were all kinds of things for them to do also. Kids club for the young ones, the core zone for the older ones, with Xbox, WII, Playstation, pool tables, board games...
Staff put on great shows at night also.
When it was time to leave of course it was a beautiful sunny morning. We got to the lobby to find that our flight was delayed appoximately 3 hours:) Our Apple rep was great, offered us our room key back or what ever we needed. I was thrilled for the delay and all I asked is for the phone # to his desk and told him I was headed to the beach for some more sun and I would check in in an hour. Much better than sitting at the airport for 3 hours.
Great place and I would definately go back.

  • Liked — the resort layout was great, not to far to walk from lobby to ocean.

My husband and I went to Dreams Punta Cana January 21-28, 2009 with a group of 25 for our wedding. It was PERFECT! I have read some horrifying reviews and for the life of me, can't figure out how anyone has anything negative to say about this resort.
When we arrived we were given a cold glass of champagne and had our bags taken to our rooms. The rooms were great. Very clean, with the pictures from the website being an accurate representation. My husband and I received a free upgrade to a honeymoon suite and it was awesome, with a jacuzzi tub on our balcony!
Miguelina was our wedding coordinator and we had a letter waiting for us at check in with an appointment time to see her the next day. She immediately set our minds at ease and did a fantastic job with everything.
The restaurants were all delicious and the buffet was also great. No reservations required, though the Japanese restaurant did have a 30 minute wait time.
The beach was beautiful and the pool was great. The pool bar was a great place to be at 3pm for the activities.

I would definitely go back here and all 25 people indicated they would as well. It far exceeded my expectations!!

The mature, lush and attractive property at Dreams Punta Cana is one of its most enduring features. The clean and sweeping beaches were perfect for long walks and playing at the water's edge. There was ample space among the numerous huts on the oceanfront sand to relax and enjoy the beach scene. A full bar close by serviced both those dabbling in the pool and those on the beach. The nearby Sea Side Grill was handy for the lunch crowd. A section of the that building provided much appreciated and clean toilette facilities. Wadding and playing throughout the various sections of the thigh deep pool proved to be good sport for families. There were also enough secluded areas around the pool for young couples to appreciate.
The main center at the front of the the resort included among many things such as the entertainment stage and theater, the sports area ,the mini casino and the World Cafe where many took their main meals buffet style. The food was ample with a varied selection. More attention by staff to refreshing various food stations would have made selected dishes more appealing. The restaurant staff was near faultless in their enthusiasm to please the customers.
For all its charm and beauty Dreams Punta Cana seems in need of a touch up here and there from the baggage handlers who seemed to pander for tips to the check-in staff who seemed mildly inconvenienced by the rush of new arrivals. A helpful check in tip is to find, if possible, "the most informed person" working at the desk as many of the other check-in staff frequently referred questions to this person.
The standard rooms were adequate, however, ours had a tricky door mechanism which made it difficult to open. This could lead to a security concern. The few sand ants around the sink seemed inconsequential and almost unavoidable.Your room may face either the pool area which provides and attractive yet noisy setting or face the thick foliage on the other side which provides a more sedate setting. The cleaning staff were quick to supply more pillows on request. One surprise bonus was the number of T.V. channels available. Our DVD didn't function properly. If you are assigned a room where the second digit is a "1" be aware. This means you are on the ground floor and there is increased traffic to worry about.
The remote location of the resort necessitates about an hour bus ride from the airport. The final miles when approaching Dreams are the most treacherous because of the rugged terrain.
The various inconveniences seem moderate when compared to the potential for an enjoyable stay .

Booked with Dreams Punta Cana because it looked beautiful. After reading reviews posted I started to get quite nervous because friends of ours booked with us not even looking at resort but trusting my decision. As soon as we arrived and walked into the beautiful lobby we were assured it was going to be a great resort. Check in was fast. We all had the swim out rooms which were mere steps from the huge pool that goes through whole resort. Pool was busy around swim up bar but it had many areas away from activity to lounge in the proviede floaties. Beach was wonderful but directly infront of resort it is full of coral. Just go to the left and it is wonderful. Many restaurants to choose from. We went to the Japanese one and it was wonderful-cooked meal right in front of you. Buffet was our main place, it always had wonderful food.
Kids club looks fantastic. We all have smaller kids and are already planning our trip for next year to take them to Dreams!
