This was my 2nd visit to this hotel. I'd read recent reviews and noticed people thought the standards were slipping. Knowing how much I loved the place the first time, I really wanted to give it a 5 star review, but I can't. A few things have slipped since my first visit 3 years ago. There were 2 major reasons I couldn't give it a 5 star review:

1) Hotel check-in - we arrived at around 1:30pm and the room wasn't ready. Fine, the posted check in time is 3pm, so I can tollerate waiting until then. We were invited to take advantage of the buffet restaurant and have lunch while we waited. It wasn't until near 4:30pm when we could finally get into our room. If you post that check in is at 3pm, you need to make sure the rooms for your newly arriving guests are ready at 3pm. The housekeeping staff needs to make those rooms a priority.

2) The buffet restaurant selection has decreased, and at times became a bit repetitive. Don't get me wrong, there's still lots of choice, just not quite as much choice as there was before. And after 2 weeks, the choices were getting a bit monotonous. Also of note is the buffet "theme" nights. A theme night is always posted, but this time it was hard to notice where that theme was in the food. For example, Asian night featured lamb chops and roast beef. I didn't notice much Asian inspired food to choose from. Side note - Rufio does the best omletes in the morning!

The rest of the 2 week vacation was splendid.

The room was clean and well taken care of by the housekeeping staff. We tipped the maid each day and had no problems with anything disappearing from the room, and things like cameras, iPads and cell phones were left in plain sight.

The air conditioning in the room was a little gutless, keeping the room on the warm side of comfortable and hardly noticeable sometimes when we walked into the room.

We only ate a one al-a-carte restaurant, and mosquitos did visit us.

Kudos to the entertainment staff who work long hours and put on some incredible dance routines at the evening shows.

Something for everyone when it comes to water - huge pool if that's your thing, great beach, lots of shade or sun-baking. The beach area for swimming was roped off and I saw very few rocks in that area. I went to far rockier beaches elsewhere on this trip (Macao and Catalina Island were both less desireable beaches to attend).

Vendors are invited about twice a week. Best way to deal with this is to look the first time and see what you're interested in. Then look in the gift shop to get an idea at what their prices are, then go back and do your batering later. We got burned, buying 2 figurines for what ended up being half the price in the gift shop, although we only paid 1/3 of what his first asking price was.

Also, a note about cigars. We did a lot of research here. Most of the cigars you will find are either way over-priced, or not made from tobacco. There are 2 cigar factories in Punta Cana that you can call. They will pick you up from your hotel and drop you back off for free. You can buy them there and they are the real thing, and reasonably priced. Don't even trust duty free stores! This was a shock to us. 80% of the cigars there are also fake. The cigar vendor at the hotel wanted twice as much for the same cigars we got from the factory. One of the companies is Don Lucas Cigars.

Anyway, awesome trip, very relaxing, lots of snoozing on the beach with that awesome ocean breeze! Just not up to your usual standards. I still recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: The beach and buffet restaurants are at the opposite ends of the resort, so pick a room in between b...

Good place for family vacation. Family deluxe rooms are key to everyone getting a good night's sleep. Requesting rooms and/or buildings doesn't do any good. Always ignored. Explorer's Club is a key reason why we like this resort. Food is also good here. There have been some improvements which were appreciated. Namely, more lounge chairs at pool. Staff is extra attentive and friendly.

My husband and I arrived the evening as the hurricane was rolling thru. It was late and raining, so we didn't mind. We lucked out, because other than a couple of cloudy mornings and about 5 mins of rain, the weather was gorgeous the rest of the week. Our room was clean and nice. No problems with mold, bugs, hot water, etc. like some post on here. The entertainment was enjoyable from the water balloon battles in the pool, water polo, aerobics, beach party, to the shows in the evening. We enjoyed the food at the restaurants and the room service. The buffet was just ok for dinner but the breakfast buffet was great with plenty of options. We also enjoyed the grill on the beach for lunch. All of the staff was friendly.
The only issue we had our entire trip was our Apple Vacation rep - and that is not the resorts fault. He talked us out of going on an excursion with the reps located inside the resort by telling us that someone has died with their trip. So we booked thru Apple to later find out it was the same exact trip... so we felt lied to and uneasy of what the Apple rep told us. We decided to cancel and were told we couldn't because it was less that 24 hours notice..we were late by 30 mins because we waited on him to arrive. So we ended up paying for a excursion we didn't go on.
We will definitely be returning to Dreams Punta Cana!

My wife and I were at Dreams Punta cana in November attending a friends destination wedding. This was our first all inclusive and we thought it was fantastic. So much so that we plan to return with our young children sometime in 2013. The food was good. The entertainment was great. We danced in the club till we could dance no more. We sang karaoke and received massages. The pool was clean and incredibly long. We thought the beach was excellent. People compare it to the caribbean side beaches but our thoughts on that were who cares? The water was cleaner, clearer, and warmer that the beaches that we frequent here on Long Island. The staff was helpful in everyway and also very nice. The drinks were great and those mamajuanas really live up to its reputation. We figure the bad reviews are from folks that expect perfection. All we wanted was to have a great time and we did that. Nothing is perfect but for us Dreams Punta Cana sure came close.

Room Tip: We really enjoyed the deluxe swimout room. It was very convenient and awsome to just hop in and cool...

What can I say ... this place is perfect!

My husband Kevin and I were married at Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa in the Dominican Republic on Friday, September 21, 2012. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating to our needs....they treated us like royalty.

We had 47 guests attend our wedding. All of which flew in from the states except for two of our guests who flew in from Istanbul, Turkey, to attend our wedding. How great is that?

The restaurants had great service, delicious food and exceptional service. And the bar staff made mean cocktails... we had fun sampling most of drinks.

Our beautiful wedding coordinator, Deyanira Aristy, made our wedding day absolutely perfect! She went out of her way to make sure everything was just as we wanted it. Deyanira and staff did an unbelievable job decorating the Gazebo area with beautiful chairs draped in white satin and a gorgeous flower centerpiece that was placed on the table where the minister gave a breathtaking service.

Deyanira Aristy did an incredible job with the reception area as well. Kevin and I brought four very heavy suitcases and several carry-on's filled with decorations, Turkish, Moroccan and Indian Lanterns we used as centerpieces, tons of picture frames, three digital photo frames, a birdcage with scrolls placed inside which were used as table cards; garlands, ribbons and many other items for our wedding.

We took three of the suitcases to Deyanira and opened each luggage to show her the contents. She knew exactly what and where we wanted things to go. She set up a gorgeous display table for us at the Himitsu Terrace filled with pictures of our parents and bridal party, digital photo-frames, a birdcage, guestbook as well as other interesting items we brought down to the DR, that left our guests in awe.

Each lantern found its place in the middle of each table that was also adorned with (YESIM and KEVIN) personalized dinner napkins and matches along with lilac-colored rose petals; Lilac being the theme of our wedding, dispersed all around the table. Deyanira Aristy was there all throughout our ceremony and reception and made sure everything was perfect. She even made sure that our personalized cake toppers that looked somewhat like us, was handled with care. I cannot begin to thank her enough for giving us the best day of our lives- Our Wedding Day.

Photography and Videography: They say 'A picture is worth a thousand words' - well, Junior Cruz, Joes Pilier and the Crew with Tropical Studios did just THAT---give each picture a story of its own... so thank you guys for making our wedding day extra special...

I would recommend this resort to anyone and especially to couples who want to have a destination wedding. You will not regret it...

Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa in the Dominican Republic is an ideal place for a wedding, birthday, anniversary or just a vacation spot for the family....I know it will leave anyone and everyone feeling happy that they made the right choice in choosing this perfect resort...

thank you,
Yesim

Just got back after our third visit and yes if anyone has been before there have been changes this year. The biggest being a new managment team but any comments made will only reflect our recent stay. Firstly we were recognised as repeat guests and given a free room upgrade which I have to say was a fantastic room which was kept very clean by a very good maid. We tried all of the restaurants and would score the food in general as good however because we were in a group of people the waiting time and service was sometimes a bit slow. The entertainments team has also changed from last year but the majority of the entertainment staff worked very hard but did not push if all you wanted to do was relax. We did visit most of the shows at night and to be honest we saw more or less the same shows the year before the exception being the introduction of a band called JERK who brought a different dimension to the entertainment [ i won,t say anymore on the matter as you need to see for yourself ] The one disapointment for us were the dancers whom we believed were not as good as before. In summing up we had a very good holiday and would hope to return again in the future however it appears that this hotel is no longer in the british brouchers so only time will tell. I save my last comment to the staff and say a big thank you to you all for making our holiday a pleasure from the first day to the last.
Special thanks to Sanchez / Margaretta and the manager of the Oceana for making us feel very welcome.
Cheers DAVE + ANITA from England

Another fantastic week at Dreams, Punta Cana! This is all thanks to the employees we had a great time with. At least 3 of them still remembered us from 4 yrs. ago. Thank you to Ramon from the Italian Restaurant, "Portofino". He really took care of us there and was so personable, you can't help but love him. Manuel, from the Steak Restaurant, Seaside Grill, was also a great asset to the restort. He couldn't have treated us any better. Carlos, from the Oceana, Adrian, the "Preferred Club" bartender, Juan, the bartender by the casino, were there to make our stay the perfect week. And also, Carlos, the concierge, was there to help us if and when we needed him. Thank you to all of you. We had a beautiful week with all of you, and we can't wait to come back to see all of you again.

Room Tip: We had rooms on a higher floor, and it was quiet.
