“Words cannot describe this amazing hotel...so impressive!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

I traveled to the Grand Bahia Principe (Diamond Club) in Punta Cana in March 2013 alone with my 3 children. It was a very safe and friendly environment. It was our first time going to the Dominican Republic and our stay there was more than amazing. It is so organized, they never lack in anything (food, drink, entertainment, cleanliness, atmosphere). The large grounds were breathtaking and the waterpark for the kids was fun. We never left the resort the entire week. It is a great place for couples or families. The villas are laid out in such a way that you are never disturbed from sleep due to noise etc. The effort put into the food presentation was great as was the taste. If you have picky eaters, don't worry, there is more than enough for everyone to choose from. The beach was gorgeous and clean and lots of palm trees if you want shade. I really could go on and on but we are quite fussy and I very highly recommend this hotel. At one of the evening shows, the GM of the hotel came on stage to ask what we think could be improved, and I really could not think of anything.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Diamond Club which was walking distance to the pool and beach and morning breakfast...

This is a good resort for your first vacation in Punta Cana. Probably you will decide to return soon to enjoy again that nice weather and beautiful beaches. The next trip you will consider to upgrade your room (V.I.P. area) or stay in another resort due to their poor services and okay meals.

AWARE: When you arrive int the resort, they will offer you a "free" Club Privilege gift. Although you get a free gift, this is a sales presentation. They promise 60-minute presentation, but it takes much more. At least 1:30h in front a courteous salesman. Inform yourself googling "Privilege club blogs". Avoid it!!!!

Pros:
- great pool facilities (nice pools, good shades);
- great beach and facility area;
- every night free events/shows;
- okay 3 tennis courts and a great Tennis Pro (Ruberlin).

Cons:
- poor restaurant services: unfortunately we have experienced several times poor services in the main restaurant. Imagine a restaurant with plenty of waiters and no floor management. It was a chaos;
- people are courteous, but lack of ownership. If you need assistance, cross your fingers and check you ID bracelet. If you are V.I.P. you will be great. If not, find yourself to solve the problems;
- meals: quantity over qualitry.

In summary, you need to balance between good facilities versus a poor service. At least you will get a big smile from the locals.

Bye,
eric

The hotel is great. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The chambermaid had the room done daily in an efficient time with everything we needed and some to spare. If you want a clean beach and pools this is the place to go. The a la carte are excellent with lots of variety. I strongly recommend the Japenese and Italien. For the buffet, I recommend eating at the two large buffet (Bavaro or Punta Cana). The food at Bavaro Principe buffet was luke warm only.

Room Tip: If you have children , having a room in the Bavaro Principe section would be beneficial as they are...

My wife and I got back yesterday from a great week of vacation ( March 24-31/2013) at the GBP Bavaro. We were repeat guests having stayed at this resort last year. We were quests at the club diamond section again and had the usual 4 a la cartes (tex-mex, garden grill, Italian, French). The a la carte restaurants were great with great food and great service . The room was great with great service and great sleep except for one night when late partying people made some noise that woke me up. The Bavaro beach is fantastic as usual (42 km long) with sand like white sugar. The liquor was good, only drank whiskey. The mini fridge was stocked regularly. Usually tipped the room maid several dollars a day, the bartenders a dollar here and there as well as the restaurant staff. The only downside to the trip was that it rained all one day and was overcast for 2 more days. So minus the day on each end for travelling, we were only under the sun for 3 days. Still got a good tan though. Will definitely return here in the future.

Room Tip: get a room close to the pools or beach.

We're a couple in our early 30s. We travelled herr for March Break (march 11-18) This is our fourth time in Dominican, third time staying at a Bahia Principe resort but our first time at the Gran Bahia Principe Bavaro. By far this is the best chain of resorts that we have stayed at. We have stayed at Rius, Melias, and Iberostars.

Check in was smooth. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived around 3:30pm. But what's the rush? We enjoyed a drink in the lobby until our room was ready. Front desk staff was very friendly. Upon arrival in our room we found some tshirts, a welcome letter and a bottle of rum. 30 minutes later we received a bottle of champagne, glasses and a fruit basket. All courtesy of the hotel. We thought this was a nice treat and a very nice welcome and start to our vacation.

ROOMS: Our room was in building 32 which is smack dab in the middle of the resort by one of the main pools. I had emailed the resort in advance requesting a room in this area. Albania is the person I dealt with via email and she was beyond accommodating and helpful. We also booked our a la carte restaurants through her In advance. She was a pleasure to deal with. Room was very nice. We had a junior suite with king bed, living room, balcony, washroom etc. very nicely furnished and decorated. Our housekeeper Melania was beyond amazing. She was the sweetest person I have ever met. Always greeted us with a smile and asked how we were every time we saw her. Our room was cleaned and organized beyond our expectations. We miss her already. Mini bar was fully stocked with beer, water and soft drinks. We never had to ask for anything as it was always full.

RESTAURANTS: buffet for lunch and dinner always had a good variety. Lots to choose from. Restaurants and snack bars by pool were great for lunch too! I'm not a fish eater by nature, but I found myself eating it on the resort, it was always fresh and tasty. Thursday nights is the gala night at the main buffet where they serve lobster. Some pieces are hit and miss, but for the most part the lobster was well cooked and very delicious. We ate at the following a la Cartes : Italian, gourmet, both Japanese (mikado and maiko) , and seafood.
Italian was our least favorite. Food was good but not as authentic as I've had at other resorts.
Gourmet was to die for!! Service was the best we had In all the resort. Food was exquisite. The beef was cooked just the way I liked it. We even asked for second servings it was that good.
The seafood was also very good. Good variety on menu.
The Japanese were both equally as good. Make sure you tell them you want to eat at the tepenyaki section otherwise they may seat you just at a la carte section . But tepenyaki was fun and food was great! It's nice entertainment while you eat. Sushi is surprisingly fresh and tempura and miso soup tasted like when we eat at a Japanese restaurant back home.

ENTERTAINMENT: the shows were great, MichaelJackson show on Monday night was the best out of all of them. The shows run at 9pm and then again at 10pm in the Main theatre. The Pueblo Principe also runs it's own shows until 12am. Pueblo Principe is like a square just outside lobby where you can walk and there's about 20 stores, the disco, casino, and sports bar. A nice little area to hang out in the evenings.

DISCO: disco was a lot of fun. It opens at 12am. Drinks are included. Good music but could have used a bit more variety of music.

POOLS/BEACH: beach was beautiful. Ocean quite wavy when we were there. Tide was pretty high. Sadly there was not enough beach to set up a beach volleyball court which was my biggest disappointment. There are always plenty of chairs on the beach. Pools are nice. Very large, clean, plenty of chairs. You can always find chairs but later in the day it gets trickier as people do save their chairs. Entertainment at pool was ok. I would have liked to see more sports like water polo, water volleyball etc. most of the games involved drinking or dancing. Which were fun to watch but if you're not the type to dance in front of hundreds of people, the entertainment at pool got kinda dull after the second day. Our waiter at the pool, Alberto (who I believe was in training) was amazing!!!! Always remembered our drinks, came by regularly and was super nice. He worked so hard tirelessly bringing drinks back and forth to everyone at the pool.

KIDS: this is a good resort for kids. Although we didn't see that many, It's definitely a good place to come if you have kids. They have a whole section that consists of a kids water park. Across from water park there is mini golf and trampolining. Some days they also set up a jumping castle/water slide At the main pool for kids.

This is a very marge resort. Involves walking but it's not horrible. From lobby to beach it's about 15-20minute walk. It's a nice relaxing walk which allows you to burn off some calories. If you stay at centre of resort where we stay... Then you are looking at 7-10 mins to lobby or 7-10 mins to beach. There's a large pool right in the centre. It is a ridiculously well maintained resort. Very clean and there employees everywhere busy fixing things and cleaning things, they work so hard!!

Staff is great! We were treated very well. Good service wherever we went. Great food. Great drinks. Was there little things I could have complained about? Sure.. But nothing worth mentioning and nothing that put a damper on our vacation. Suggestion, bring lots of ones for tips. It is really appreciated and the staff work so hard they deserve it. Trust me, tipping goes a long way!!

All in all I would definitely return to this resort. I have yet to be disappointed by a Bahia Principe resort.

Any question feel free to message me.

Room Tip: Choose somewhere in centre of resort. Or try to get room upgrade to Esmeralda or Ambar section.

It was my first trip in the Dominican Republic and I wasn't disappointed. The hotel is HUGE, so if you like smaller resorts, this may not be for you. The main attraction I would say was the beach---it was just beautiful!! The rooms and the hotel grounds were very clean! Lots of pools to choose from, just be ready to get up early to reserve that long chair.
