We are just finishing a really enjoyable stay at the Grand Palladium, there are 6 in our party, aged 2 (18 years) 2 (19 years) & 2 adults, the facilities in the hotel are excellent, catering for either a lazy holiday or a full action time, this more than met our expectations, chamber maids were extremely
attentive, catering staff in buffet restaurants & speciality restaurants were extremely officious, while always smiling and joking with our group, special mention to reception staff especially,Lorin, Eyliana, Yicauri. Who went beyond their duty when one of our group dislocated their ankle, beach is as you see in the brochure, white golden sand mile after mile, final mention to the entertainment team & buggy boys who really looked after the girls after the accident - great holiday even after our small mishap, thank you Grand Palladium xxxx

Stayed here for 10 nights at the end of June and had the best time ever. Hotel only about 20 mins from the airport so after a 8 and half hour flight it is ideal.

Reception
Reception area is nice enough, we went wit Thomson and were checked in really quickly as they had a separate table for Thomson guests to check in with everything ready. Bell boy took all our belongings and wasnt pushy for a tip like other places we have been to. Was friendly enough and took the time to show us where everything in the room was - including how to work the air con and safe. Reception has a bar that serves nice drinks and also a drink dispenser that you can help yourself to. Wifi is free in reception area (lobby) but didnt really use it that much as only wanted it to facetime and it wouldnt let us do this.

Rooms - Room was nice enough, 2 double beds, mini-bar restocked almost every day with water, beer, Fanta, coca cola, diet cola and sprite. Air conditioning worked a treat (even got too cold sometimes so had to turn it off), beds were really comfy and the safe in the room worked fine. Couldn't find any English channels on the TV really but that didn't bother us as we don't watch TV on holiday anyway - there was a docking station for ipods etc so we made good use of that. Hairdryer was powerful enough - only one thing i would say is that the shower isn't very powerful when on hot but wasnt too much of a problem really as it did the job. The jacuzzi bath was also good but we didn't use much.

Pools
Pools are really good, plenty of space for sunbeds unless you turn up around midday then it can sometimes be a bit difficult. We managed to get one in shade fine every day though. Pool bars were a godsend and were under shade as well. The pool had a foam party one of the days there which was different and we enjoyed this. Also had a bouncy castle slide for children one of the days which all the kids seemed to enjoy. Various activities such as aerobics/waterpolo/football/bingo etc would be around the pool.. Animation team would ask but werent too pushy if you didnt want to join in.

Food
Food was the best I have ever had from an all inclusive. We ate breakfast at the main buffet every day and was so much choice - bacon, sausage, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, baked beans, french toast, paninis, omlettes made to your liking, pancakes, cereal, yoghurts etc.. spoilt for choice. And they always had Heinz Ketchup :). We ate either at the beach snack bar, sports bar or the buffet restaurant for lunch. Always pizza/hotdogs/burgers/chips at the beach bar which is what we enjoy.. Buffet had a range of food lots to choose from. Dinner at the buffet restaurant was amazing .. they have themed nights every night - the USA night was amazing .. pork ribs were the best. We only ate at one a la carte as we didnt really want to queue for tea or go so early but the buffet restaurant was so nice it didnt bother us. Ate at the la parilla italaian ... Best a la carte ever - a must if you enjoy italian food.. Some of the best I have ever taste. Also believe the Japanese is really good food and entertainment and the steakhouse I believe was very nice and very popular.

Drinks
Plenty to choose from drink wise but I am not a big drinker - tried some of the cocktails in Hemingway cocktail bar (they also serve the cocktails at the lobby bars) but they were too strong for my liking - I ended up getting the non alcoholic cocktails andasking for shots of vodka and adding to my own taste - Staff are happy to do this for you. Soft drinks are really good - pepsi and coke, Fanta orange, sprite - the fruit punch here is also really refreshing.

Beach
Beach is one of the best parts of the hotel, lovely white sands and blue sea. Didnt have aprob getting a lounger.. Tried kayaking which was really fun also. Always a nice breeze on the beach which you need

Staff
Staff were lovely - the towel man advised us he didnt speak english when we asked him a question but then a couple of days later spoke to us in English was a bit strange , maybe he just couldnt be bothered answering us but on a whole they spoke well. Some of the women who serve drinks round the pool weren't very friendly towards us and made it seem like it was hard work if we answered 'yes please' when she asked if we would like a drink.. But one of the men around the pool (didnt get his name - young guy with braces) was really friendly and looked after us really well - as soon as our glass was empty he would offer us another.

Entertainment
Entertainment in the theatre was okay - enjoyed the Michael Jackson show the most! Drinks there are also really nice. Repeat the same entertainment each week though so can get boring if you go for longer than a week but same as anywhere else. There was also a nightclub but with the time different we never made it to them as they only opened around 23:00. Spent some of the nights at sports bar (pool table, football table.. hotdogs, pizza, chips, paninis made to order, popcorn) and some at the lobby bar/cocktail bar so plenty of choice

We also did the dolphin explorer trip whilst here ad I would definitely recommend this - amazing experience!!!

Overall would definitely recommend - one of the best hotels I have stayed at and can see why it has a 5 star.

my girlfriend and I went there for 11 nights in June and everything was really good, from when we arrived till we left, really nice staff, spacious and clean room (and we've been upgraded for the room 7312 with Jacuzzi next to the bed) king size bed, mini bar, air con.... . a nice selection of restaurants a la carte ( for us the best was the Spanish one then the steak house) just the Italian one was really disappointing.
we found the buffets for breakfast really good and full of choice.
it would be to long to describe how good our holiday was.
i definetely recommend that hotel!!

Just back from a 2 week stay here. Had upgraded to junior suite on arrival but not sure if this was any better than standard double room. Definitely disappointing. Can't imagine how this hotel obtained its 5 star rating - more like 3-4 star rating. Interesting to hear other guests suffered from stomach upsets while we were there as all 4 of us also had sickness and diarrhoea at some point in the holiday. A la carte restaurants are a joke. Tried several times to get in to no avail. Stuck to the school dining hall option and fought our way into the queues - not my ideal way to get dinner!!

We will not be back nd I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone. In fact I would much prefer to go back to any of te other Caribbean islands rather than the Dominican.

Room Tip: Don't book at all unless you get into the royal suites.

Dear Guest,

Foremost I would like to thank you for choosing us as the place to spend your recent holidays as well as for letting us know about your point of view.

We attached great importance to your comments and they were taken with our maximum interest.

We are most disturbed to learn about your dissatisfaction with some of our services. Allow me to extend our most sincere apologies if we could not exceed your expectations. I regret not having had the opportunity to attend you personally during your stay; apart from my entire management team, I am always at the disposition of our guests whenever they required any specific assistance. We also organize a special event, the Management Cocktail, where our guests are invited to make suggestions, ask questions and share their comments with the various Department Managers.

As the health of our customers is of utmost importance to us we have contracts with several internationally recognized food audit companies that do periodical audits of all our Food and Beverage areas. This company check to ensure the correct food handling procedures are occurring and also verifying the water supply in all areas. It is worthy to mention that certain risks are involved when travelling to the tropics; there are various factors that may contribute to illness such as climate, temperature variation, combination of food and beverages, excessive sun exposure and personal reactions.

Regarding restaurants, it is advisable to clarify that to be standing in line is something many people choose to do but this is not in any way encouraged by the hotel. The service is intended to be “first come – first served”, notwithstanding many of the guests opted to wait until restaurants opens to put their names on a waiting list for later on, to come back at the time they want to eat.

Be assured that all your observation have been studied and discussed with our managing team. We understand that there is always room for improvement and our guests’ experiences play the key role in this continuous process, which leads us to achieve service excellence.

Be assured that corrective and preventive measures have been determined with the departments involved in order to avoid similar coincidences in the future.

Best Regards,

W Cervera.

Just returned from 2 weeks - excellent time. Free upgrade to junior luxury suite as the junior suite had a king size bed. My sister and I asked for another room and the customer service manager, jiminiez was amazing!! Beach is beautiful, but a wee bit disappointing that you had to be there very early to get sunbeds with shade!! Food is excellent and south variety. Anyone who says otherwise must be crazy!! To get into the a la carte restaurants was a bit of a nuisance, usually had to queue. However cs manager again sorted that for us, booked tables for both Spanish and Italian restaurants. Loads to do for kids and we were based in the bavaro resort which was lovely. Having been to the grand palladium in Mexico, I would add that I preferred Mexico, but overall I enjoyed my holiday.

If you go with Thomson holidays the guide on the travel back to airport will tell you that you can't take any bottles at all in your hand luggage. This in fact is wrong, same rules as on the way out, so don't bother putting it all in your checked luggage as he suggests. There's no need.

Room Tip: Pink champagne is included in the all inclusive - just ask!

Have been to a few all inclusive holidays and this is by far the worst I have ever been too. Five stars it is not. We booked on the basis of reviews from earlier this year. From the very start we were disappointed. Check in took an age and there is no air conditioning in the lobby.
I would say the rooms we booked were both good apart from the fact I had to report the toilet had not been cleaned in of the rooms and was disgusting.
Biggest disadvantage is that the whole of my family were ill for long periods during our stay. I was still ill when I got home. The food is bland and not of a five star quality and it is bit like school dinners barging to try and find a table. Service for drinks was slow at breakfast and dinner alike.
I will not be going back.

Dear Guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for selecting Grand Palladium Punta Cana Resort & Spa as well as for the time you took to post your review after having stayed with us. We are very concerned for the fact that your stay with us was not up what you expected; so we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest regret for the situations described.

We understand perfectly that, after a long trip, it is very important to enjoy the comfort of your room immediately; therefore we have addressed the problem to the corresponding in order to fine-tune the operation.

We hope you to understand that sometimes the demand for arrivals at the same time can cause the service is delayed.

As far as your indications about the quality of the food offered in our restaurants, we are rather surprised because carefully selected products compose our gastronomical supply, taking into consideration the diversity of clients who visit our hotel.

We must say that the level of satisfaction obtained concerning the quality and variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner services has always been elevated according to the opinions reflected in our quality questionnaires.

Therefore please receive our most sincere apologies by the incidents you may have faced. Therefore we confirmed that our hotel is a safe and disease free complex, otherwise the doctor’s office would receive dozens or hundreds of guests complaining gastrointestinal discomfort, and this is not the case. As you may know, certain risks are involved when travelling to the tropics, as there are various factors that may contribute to illness, such as climate changed, environments variations, travelling stress, combination of new foods and beverages, allergy to some native products, underlying diseases (diabetes, gastric ulcer, intestinal mal absorption syndromes, medications side effects, immunosuppressive states.), or the certain foods and drinks mixture, excessive sun exposure, that predispose individuals to react to gastrointestinal manifestations.

We are very sorry that we did not have the pleasure to personally meet you as we would have been delighted to assist you. Our entire management team is at the disposition of our guests whenever they require any specific assistance. Nevertheless, you may rest assured that your remarks will be part of our daily work and action plans will be placed in motion in order to improve the level of our services and facilities.

We hope to be your home for a next visit to Punta Cana and offer you a much satisfying experience.

I will preface this review by saying this was my first visit to an all-inclusive resort. Since I have no previous all-inclusive resort experience with which to compare this visit, my expectations were based on other travel experiences such as hotel stays in Kauai, Munich, Paris, Cancun, Acapulco and multiple cruises to the Mexican Riviera via Carnival cruise line. We typically frequent Marriott hotels, but also have stayed in Westin, Hyatt and boutique hotels. I am from northern California.

We traveled with another couple who are Palladium Travel Club members (timeshare owners) and we stayed at the Grand Palladium Bavaro Suites Resort & Spa. There are multiple complexes on the property, as well as multiple room types within each complex. We chose the Deluxe Junior Suite and stayed in building 17 from June 28 – July 8 2014.

Summary: If you like standing in line like cattle for your bland buffet feeding, poor service and sharing the beach or pool with a thousand people and their screaming kids, then this place is for you. If you’re from the west coast of the US, I recommend Mexico or Hawaii for a tropical vacation since it’s a better value and you can get a direct flight. This place is not worth the 15 hours of travel each way. If you’re interested in details, read on…

Pros: Members beach (which was less crowded and had occasional cocktail service), property was well maintained with nice landscaping, there were a lot of things to do on the property, room was clean as were the common areas such as lobbies and restaurants, mandatory dollop of hand sanitizer for everyone entering a buffet restaurant (though this is negated when you see people eating off their plates as they walk the buffet line and licking their fingers before grabbing that spoon for another scoop of what-not).

Cons: Wearing a plastic wristband the entire trip (felt like I was on a high school graduation trip). Buffets at every single meal (even the sit-down A La Carte dinner restaurants all had buffets for the salad and appetizers). Food quality could be compared to that of a hospital cafeteria (lukewarm, bland in flavor). Bones in every chicken dish (no kidding, from the enchiladas at the Mexican restaurant to the fresh made paninis at the Bohio buffet, I found bones in every chicken item I ate). Buffets would often run out of plates and beverage service at the breakfast and lunch buffets was beyond slow as we often finished eating before anyone came to take our drink order. Very little air conditioning at most A La Carte dinner restaurants, we sweated through most dinners. Hard alcohol for mixed drinks appeared to be watered down (i.e. at 5’3” and 120 lbs, I shouldn’t be able to walk after drinking 24 oz of vodka in 2 hours, yet I never felt intoxicated). Side note: we brought 20 oz insulated tumblers for our cocktails as they serve cocktails in what I would guess are 6 oz cups and they are tight with the ice so the insulation is helpful. House wine was less drinkable than “2 Buck Chuck.” The resort would only allow Palladium Travel Club members to book reservations at the A La Carte dinner restaurants, which led to ridiculous lines in front of the restaurants for non-members trying to get a table for the night. This wasn’t an issue for us since we were with members, but had we been non-members, I would have been beside myself with frustration. I will tell you right now, NONE of the A La Carte restaurants were worth a several hour wait. The only thing that made them better than the buffet restaurants was the lower density of diners. Only issue was checking in for your reservation because they don’t separate the line for those with reservations and those without, so after a couple of days waiting in the lines to check in for our reservation, we figured out that you are supposed to walk to the front of the line to check in, which solicited angry stares from those in line who didn’t know that some people had reservations. We were woken up 8 of 10 nights by either: yelling fights in the common area of our building, people partying between rooms while slamming doors and dropping glass, people letting their kids run and yell down the hallways at midnight (no joke). The closet doors were broken in our room (we had to remove them from the tracks and set them aside) and the shower head was broken in our friends’ room (one of those types that slide up and down a pole and it wouldn’t latch when you raised it, never got fixed in 10 days either so they used a hair tie to secure it). The water is not potable and after getting sick the first day (from brushing my teeth in the water or the food), I started using bottled water to brush my teeth. Since they do not provide more than two bottles of water a day, we had to keep asking for more or walking to the lobby (which was not close) to get more water. 95% of the employees appeared to hate their jobs, they did not smile and made you feel bad for asking for anything. Housekeeping was spotty about replacing towels, often forgetting to replace our bath mat, hand towels and washcloths (though we tipped housekeeping every day). Pools closed at 5p. Spa was overpriced ($110-145 USD for a 50 minute facial, $100-145 USD for 50 minute massage) and disappointing. Arrived early for my appointment and was not given a tour of the spa nor invited to enjoy the amenities such as the pool, Jacuzzi, steam shower, sauna, etc. Asked for a locker to secure my belongings and was told there were none, but on my way out, I used the restroom near the check in counter and saw lockers in there. My facial treatment was interrupted 5 times by someone coming into the room to talk to my therapist and they would leave the door to the hallway open while they talked, which was uncomfortable since my top was off and there were men in the spa area. They make you pay for your spa service up front and they only take cash tips (can’t charge to your room or credit card), so if you didn’t bring cash to your appointment, you have to make another trip back to tip.
