We visited the Club Acqua Mare restaurant on April 2, 2012 after it was recommended by our hotel's concierge. The restaurant, located in the Cap Cana resort area, treats guests to complimentary private transportation. We were shuttled to and from our hotel in an air conditioned van taxi by a courteous driver.
Club Acqua Mare is situated directly on the docks giving patrons a chance to see the many yachts and fishing boats home to Cap Cana up close. After being dropped at the docks by our taxi we were escorted to the restaurant by the maître d'. For appetizers we shared the tenderloin carpaccio and fired coconut shrimp. ($16 and $20 respectively) Our entrees were a grilled surf and turf platter ($52-steak, lobster, shrimp,) and the Acqua Tasting Platter ($46-steak, fish filet, shrimp). The surf and turf platter was far more than my big appetite could handle. The generous serving a beef and seafood paired with rice and vegetable was more than filling. The Acqua Tasting platter on the other hand underwhelmed us. It featured a small piece of NY Strip steak, tiny piece of fish filet with cream sauce and a few grilled shrimp and was garnished with rice and veggies. For dessert we shared a warm brownie sundae and a caramel cheesecake ($12 each). The desserts were very favorable but bordered on being store bought.
After soda, bottled water, tax and tip (added directly to bill by wait staff) were added our dinner totaled $229 USD. I recommend Club Acqua Mare for its great views and stellar service. But its food left us feeling that we overpaid slightly. But on vacation you have to go explore and live it up a bit. In the future we probably won't living it up at the Club Acqua Mare.
