“Unforgetable family vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

We have just returned from our vacation in Dominicana where we were for the first time. This hotel was recommended to us and we will never regret that decision. We took there our 2 small children as well. Great welcome by the stuff (always smiling), absolutely fantastic room (definetly over 40 m2, huge bathroom with whirlpool, shower and double basin. We stayed in villa 61 which was very strategic - restaurant for lunch just across the path, beach about 50 m, pool cca 200 m and very pleasant cca 500 m walk to the lobby and main restaurant. Room was cleaned every day, every day they fulfilled fridge with 2 bottles of water, 4 beers in can and fanta, cola, sprite, everything for free. The food was excellent, everybody could chose - from meat, fish, sidedishes, vegetables, fruits and pastries. Every evening was different specialties - Espanol, Dominicana, Americano, Mexico, Gala Noche, Italy, Asian. We also tried one a la carte restaurant - mexican and again absolute satisfaction. Every evening there was live music in lobby, full of merengue and bachata songs (from 9 p.m.) and from 10 p.m. started evening show in Sunset Theatre just across the main lobby. The garden among the villas was just botanical garden, plenty of different palms, flowers, every plant had its name written on the tag. Animation programm whole day (10 a.m. till 5 p.m.) - dance lessons on the beach, game of the day, bingo, water polo, etc. The winners were awarded every evening on the stage of the Sunsent Theatre just before the show. Beach was cleaned every morning from the seeweed. As it was quite windy there was quite a lot of seeweed but this is nature... Beaches of other hotel were much more dirty not only from seeweed but also from plastics, etc. Our hotel took attention to the nature because they had recycle bins every 10 m and also on some places the recycle bins for the separate litter. What say more? It was just unforgetable family vacation for us and when we come again that is clear that to Grand Palladium Bavaro Hotel.

Room Tip: There are 3 Grand Palladium hotels-parts - Bavaro, Punta Cana and Palace. For us was Bavaro absolut...

This resort is great i have been there twice so far and everytime it was amazing we had a nice jacuzzi in our room. Everything was clean and the food was amazing. I do not get it when i read some of the review that people are complaining i enjoyed every restaurants the service was amazing also. What i liked there was several bar everywhere directly on the beach also i see some resort sometime that you have to walk alot to get a refreshment. The service was fast we enjoyed the japonese restaurant but actually they were all great. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The beach also at this resort is amazing there is many activities to do also for the familly. I will go back for sure in the futur this is basically my favorite place i have been so far. I have been to many other resort in dominican republic and Cuba and i can say this is worth a try. The room were very comfortable it was clean the location is also amazing the beach is very nice and the food i tough that even the buffet is better then most of the other resort a lacarte restaurant i have been.

We just returned from two weeks at the Palladium Bavaro. Based on some previous reviews I was a little concerned, but I assure you, there’s no reason for worry.

The Beach was lovely – walk either right or left of the resort, and you can tell the Palladium resorts have the best beach in the area. Yes, there are peddlers for trips, parasailing and other excursions but a polite no, thank you and they'll let you alone.

Food – the buffet had plenty of choices, if you couldn’t find something to eat there, you might as well stay home. Beach Buffet was the same for lunch, always something to eat. Each night the buffet had a different theme, if you didn’t like the main offering, there was plenty of other choices. Steak House was great. We showed up just after 7:00 with no reservation, asked if we wanted to sit outside(which I’d recommend) and were seated right away. Mexican restaurant we were given the beeper, went to the bar, had a drink, and were at our table within 20 minutes.

Service – Out of the 14 days there, we had problem with service in the restaurants only once. We always received our drinks with our meals, plates cleared almost immediately, and refills whenever required.

Rooms – We had a junior suite, it was a little dated and our shower leaked a little but it wasn’t really a problem for us, get an extra towel and throw it on the floor.

Grounds. Lush and clean.

I just can't understand the negative reviews. I broke the remote control for the television, I changed the channels manually until they brought us a new one.

This was not the a hotel that I chose myself, we stayed here as my son was getting married and this was his choice, great choice!!!!
Upon arrival we were greeted with ice cold drinks, checked in efficiently, luggage taken to our rooms by friendly and courteous bell boys and were unpacked within half an hour of our arrival. The room 1515 was clean, well presented with usual decorative towel arrangements ,flower petals around the bath and bed but more importantly efficient air conditioning and a well stocked mini bar with ample cold drinks.
The room was located within easy walking distance of the main lobby , swimming pool and the beach it was quiet and set within beautifully maintained gardens with excellent views from the balcony.
Over all the hotel is very good value for money with good choices of food in the different buffet areas and a la carte restaurants (which have no limits to amount of times you visit). Would definitely recommend the Japanese and Chinese restaurants for ambience and service. The Steak House does fantastic steaks although accompaniments are not as good.
The Brazilian restaurant is also good for variety. The Italian restaurant is good and has a great wine cellar. As with all the restaurants check the wine of the month first as these are cheaper than those listed on the wine menu if you want something other than the house wine which is al inclusive of course. Ask for a schedule of restaurants opening times at the start of your holiday as some are closed on different nights of the week.
The bars all have extensive ranges of local spirits and cocktails but Hemmingways have branded names and the service and calm cool atmosphere makes a good place to call for a night cap.
The entertainment team are good, friendly but not intrusive. There are nightly shows in the amp itheatre which although not particularly professional are entertaining.

The beaches are lovely, white sand and turquoise water however there was quite a lot of floating sea weed depending on the weather and the tide. The hotel do clear it regularly though. There are plenty of sunbeds and beach towels are provided but you need to get them from the swimming pool before getting down to the beach. There are some lookie lookie men on the beach but just a shake of the head is usually enough to send them away but they are considerably cheaper than the shops.
We found that the Dolin dive centre at the beach was best value for money for boat trips and snorkelling. Nadine gives great advice and is really friendly without being pushy.
The beach bars are located all along the beach and there are several snack bars too.
The free train shuttle around the resort runs every twenty five minutes and is a welcome facility
especially in the heat and is a great way to familiarise yourself with all the amenities. However the bell boys will also ferry you around in golf cart for a few dollars.
Generally pleased with the experience only negative is that the walkways are extremely slippery when wet and we did have a lot of rain!!!!!

Room Tip: avoid rooms starting with 12.... there is building work next to these blocks can be noisy.

I decided to write about this hotel, because of 2 reasons:

- make a warning for people who would like to go there,
- make an indication for the hotel Management team.

We have chosen Grand Palladium P.Cana, because we had a extremely good impression from Grand Palladium Jamaica, visited before.

We were frustrated from the fist hours even at the check-in.

Let me describe the worst things, why you shouldn't go to this hotel:

1. Hotel is really old, reconstruction is ongoing but you have a big chance to get a really poor room. We have changed our room immediately after arrival.
2. Hotel reconstruction is ongoing and making a lot of noice, lot of hotel places are just closed.
3. Hotel area is really huge, you need to take a hotel shuttle service to go to another part of the hotel (for dinner, sport, etc).
But this shuttle is going once per 20 minutes !!! Crazy !! or you need to walk around 30 min
4. Drinks at lobby were very bad!!! Service is very lazy. Drinks not possible to drink, we have tried all lobbies and result was the same - drinks were bad.
Then I tried to learn the stuff at lobby how to make Mojito, they were very ugly and said that this is exception and next time I should drink what they are "coocking"
5. Stuff is very ugly, not friendly at all. Manager was looking like very tired man listening my complains.
6. Cash mashine was often broken and no exchange at lobby !!! We had to walk to another hotel to get a money
7. There are only 2 bars on the beach, but beach line is huge !!! Service is very lazy there and you need to stay a long queue to get a drink.
8. Volleybol court had a stones inside the sand !! I have damaged my laps very hard.

About good things:

1. Very nice beach, probably the best in Punta Cana
2. Very nice sushi Japan restaurant. Excellent service, guys were coocking very nice looking sushi. I have asked about ill and they made me sushi with ill and gave whole plate of ill
it was the best sushi I was eaten. Thanks to Japan rest. team !
3. Amazing Hamingway bar - only one place where you can get a normal drinks in this hotel ! Excellent service, wide range of the drinks.
4. Night show is quite good, during 2 weeks they didn't repeat the program.
5. La carte restaurants are available without the reservation from before and unlimited.

Conclusion:

This is definatelly not a 5 star hotel, maximum 4. If you never beed before in Punta Cana - it is just OK, but if you have been in other hotels,
you can be very disappointed.

Cheers,
Pjotr

Having just returned from this resort, we spent 14 nights there and went because it has a 5 star rating. We have never been to a 5 star rated hotel before that does not offer a currency/exchange service and this hotel would not cash our travellers cheques..$40 for a taxi to nearest bank! The range of restaurants from Japanese to Brazillian - fantastic but the service is very poor, often waiting 2 - 3 hours for your main course and only serving beer or wine in the restaurants, so no bar service either. The hotel was clean and the buffet restaurant food was fantastic, great choice of food but again, service for drinks very poor. We went at the beginning of the season so Lord knows how they cope in the busy season. They offer golf cart free taxi service around the resort and some bell boys that drive them may stop, some won't...very hit and miss...the bike hire was extortionate...$8 per day per bike...all the shops on site were very expensive, having a captured market...the beach was knock out, absolute fabulous, best beach I have ever seen. If you want to walk loads and you don't mind waiting around, this woukld be perfect but for us the resort was probably a bit too big, the whole staff speak fluent spanish and very little English, you are harrassed on the beach and by the pool constantly with different trips on offer or bargains to buy...only so many times you can say "no " politely! We had a lovely holiday but definitely not 5 star

Room Tip: The higher numbered rooms are better...62 or 72 are great for location...2s and 3s are by the furthe...

We just returned from a week at the resort with 2 boys: 8 & 12. We were booked in an efficiency near the beach, but needed more space for 4. Good for 2. We paid $40/night more for villa in 64 with a loft. Almost double the space. Bonus was by huge sports complex. Resort is big, but not as big as Disney resorts to get food/drink. Beach is great & a number of pools. Lots of dinner options while breakfast & lunch are buffet. All felt good variety & quality for a beach resort. Some reviews expect 5 star NYC quality food which no resort (Sandals, Paradisius) weren't either & we paid less at Palladium. Few slow staff, but overall felt everyone was very attentive, friendly & tried to speak English. If you don't lie ESL, stay in US. Men HAVE to wear pants in restaurants that aren't buffet & it strictly enforced. I think reviews vary based on how busy resort is. Our week was light, but last day, resort almost doubled in visitors so restaurants had a wait. Get there at opening & will be no issue. It was much better than reservation system at Breezes. Rooms a bit worn, but not bad. No smells, bugs, stains, etc. I don't care if the comforter looks like Holiday Inn (no offense HI), but resort was great value. Two great kids clubs my kids lived in especially Black & White Club. Kudos to Ruth at Samana pool bar! Negotiate on tours. Don't make eye contact with sellers on beach & they don't approach. I had not one issue. I left stuff like iPhone at pool and beach unattended every day & no issue. Felt safe. Very few Americans overall. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Internet is free in lobby we found out on last day (darn!). Frig was restocked every day. Karma exists - nice to staff & they are nice back :)
