This local restaurant down the street from El Dorado shopping center and the Liquid Lounge was an adventure to say the least.
They didn't have bread, they didn't have beef, they didn't have darn near anything on their menu. All they had that night was pasta or "pollo frito" the daily special. Thankfully our 12 year old looking waitress who spoke no English hooked us up.
Our plates were 150 pesos each (less than $4). It was descent fried chicken with a little salad on the side.
The only negative, besides the fact that they were out of 3/4 of their menu, was a "man vs. beast" style allegory of epic proportions. As the story goes, there was this most likely rabid, very mangy looking cat that stared at me the whole meal. It's eyes we're huge and it was obviously half dead from starvation. That or it was the Posada mascot, I really couldn't tell. I tried to scare it away, but it would not budge for anything. The staff definitely saw this going on and didn't bother trying to shew it away.
Unfortunately for kitty kitty "El Gato del Posada", I wasn't budging either. Man vs. Food trumps Man vs. Beast every time. In that vain, I stubbornly ate every single morsel of fried chicken and looked down saying "mmm mmm" as loud as possible to that stinking cat. Kitty Kitty wasn't getting any of my grubby grubby.
Then the strangest thing happened, some stray dog started trying to sneak onto the premises and the same bare bones half starved begging cat ran him off! It was crazy, and I was amazed at how the feline established dominance over the canine. This Kitty had some serious huevos for sure. The definition of the cat as an allegorical figure is this, when you find yourself as starved as El Gato del Posada, and just as broke, go to La Posada de Gladys.
Be prepared to speak Spanish only and order the gato frito, er I mean pollo frito. They may not serve anything else on their fabled menu, but for that price, why should they?
