We wanted to go on a half day tour that would visit Don Lucas Cigars but they were all booked. Our transfer company, VIP Services, had a shopping trip that was free. We decided to do it. Little did we know that the Don Lucas Cigar "factory" is in the complex with the two-story gift shop. I am not a cigar smoker. I thought it was informative. I got a one-on-one tour by Carlos. It lasted five minutes. He explained the process of how they make the cigars and answered all my questions. It is small with six or seven guys that work at work benches making the cigars. It was a great way to get a feel for the daily life of the Dominicans and insight to cigar making. There is a great gift shop to visit after the tour that has paintings, cigars (Cubans too), souveniers, coffee, and chocolate, This is a great hidden gem to visit. I would highly recommend a visit for a no pressure, no cost excursion with Dominican flare.
