“Nice Getaway!!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We came from New York for a little adult R & R and stayed here from January 10-14 2013. Everything was perfect! Check in was fast, the welcoming drink was awesome~very tasty! The front desk spoke perfect English, was very friendly and did everything to make our vacation awesome. The rooms are very clean, the pool and beach are excellent & clean as well, the beach BBQ was great from the drinks to the food, the food overall was great, the buffets were awesome and very tasty, the drinks were awesome, they never left you high & dry they always no matter where you were in the resort asking you for a drink, internet all over resort. We had a great time and we will definitely recommend this to all of our friends. RIU Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana was well worth the money & they do whatever they can to make your trip excellent & enjoyable! They knew how to accommodate you in any way possible. I would reccommend this resort to anyone: couples, families, singles~great times!

My husband and I always travel for our Birthdays. We have stayed at several RIU's and they have all been a Great place to vacation. This is our first time in Dominican Republic, and we had a Great time. The rooms are Great, clean, and up to date. The food was good, but not Great. However, there is always a large selection, and your sure to find something good. We did not opt for any of the specialty dinning, because the menu wasn't that interesting. The beach was Great, and the the staff was Excellent, and very attentive. If you like to walk, this is the place to get your daily share of walking, so take your comfort shoes.

Room Tip: If you like an ocean view, then pay the extra money. Garden views are just that, so don't expect...

After experiencing the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen we were eager to sample another in the Riu chain. This looked ideal being less than a year old. The place is simply too huge for a Caribbean island feel. Physically the hotel does not show the attention to detail that others in the Riu fleet enjoy. Although the dinner at the Cristal fusion restaurant was excellent, the standard buffet was long on presentation and short on taste. Upon visiting the other Riu hotels in the complex this seemed the least attractive.
My favorite spot was the Capucchino bar in the Lobby.

The front desk manager Joann spoke perfect English, was very friendly and did everything to make our vacation awesome. The rooms are clean, pool and beach are excellent, food are great and very tasty, internet all over resort. We had good time and will definitely recommend to all of our friends Riu Palace Bavaro. In a future we are planning to visit this AWESOME resort.

Our visit was 12/30/12 - 1/6/13.
Positives - great beach, fine sand, water not too rough; weather was perfect - mid-80's and sunny every day (we had rain one night); generally great service from restaurants and housekeeping; friendly employees in the restaurant, pool area and pool bar; large selection of food; great New Year's Eve celebration - lots of fun and the booze was flowing all night(unfortunately I don't drink, but ,had a great time anyway); the cafe in the main building was great and generally not very busy- we went there at lease twice a day for cappacino, latte or a specialty coffee drink and ice cream Cone or shakes.

Negatives - terrible check in experience ( our envelope of information received at check-in had the following problems - room keys were not activated, didn't receive any pool towel cards (didn't know we needed them until we went to get towels), we had two connecting rooms but the doors between the two were locked and we weren't given the keys needed until requesting the doors be unlocked - these issues obviously necessitated several additional trips back to the front desk.; room had glass table top on coffee table, there was a big chip out of the corner, and when walking past the table the jagged glass edge put about a four inch gash across my calf - blood all over - front desk and convenience store didn't have bandages - second try at the front desk produced some - we were initially denied by the same guy that checked is in ad didn't give us any of our keys ( makes you wonder about comments from others that the people hate Americans - I certainly felt this way. It took two days before housekeeping replaced the bloody sheets.
Linens - upon check in, our. Linens included washcloths. On subsequent days, no wash clothes, just bath towels and hand towels. When I requested wash clothes, I was told the didn't have any; then finally on the last day, wash cloths show up again.
Sports bar is a joke - the food available is chips with cold nacho cheese sauce (if there was any cheese sauce) and hot dogs that you could take from a refrigerator and microwave. Room service selections were about the same - really bad. Sports Bar didn't even have ESPN. This was a big disappointment because we're were visiting over new year's and had hoped to see the. Rose bowl and NFL playoff games. Don't know where the other reviews are getting there information about the resort having ESPN- it wasn't anywhere. The only US channel appeared to be Fox News (which was fine with me but it gets a little old when you have nothing to watch but Fox).
Food - plenty of selections but not of a very high quality or to my taste. Had surf and turf in the steak house - this was by far the absolute worst lobster tail I have every had. It was like chewing leather and had no taste. Everyone in my family ordered it - we all had a good laugh over how bad the entire meal was- how can you screw up a bowl of ice cream - at least we have sense of humor.

Bottom line - great location, good hotel rooms, plenty of Food and drink, generally friendly and accommodating staff. We expected better quality of food, more choices catering to Americans vs Europeans, there was not hot tub, and very limited access to u.s. cable or satellite channels. WIFI access was intermittent in the hotel rooms- generally available in the hotel lobby and at the swimming pool. This was our second stay at a Riu; we expected much more than we received for the price we paid.

stayed here december 14-20 and absolutely loved every bit of this resort!
to begin with, the rooms are exactly how you see them in the pictures. maids came by every morning and restocked fresh towels and drinks and if not, you can just call and they will send someone to bring some. i tried all of the restaurants and enjoyed the steakhouse and the buffet the most. you do have to make reservations for the restaurants before 11 am. the pool area was nice because it had a swim up bar. the entertainment staff were absolutely awesome!! maria, rocky, bon bon, miguel, scooby, manuel, all AWESOME!! i loved them! definitely made us feel welcomed and went out of their way to please us. i loved all the shows.. lots of fun and there are waiters that come to your table while you are watching shows at night and take your drink orders. the sportsbar was open late at night and thats where most of the younger crowd went after the shows.. the bar there is also open till late.. not sure if its 24 hours? the resort was very clean.. all day you will find people cleaning everywhere! all the workers were so friendly and kind. it was my birthday and they sang to me at the restaurants and even sang! sure it does help to know some spanish but if not, theres always someone around that knows both languages. the front desk spoke perfect english so you can always call them for help. definitely recommend this resort for younger crowds, couples, families, everyone!! dont hesitate! :)

We are here now; awesome is all I can say. Buffet is top notch, al a carte restaurants so far are great. Had Italian tonight steak restaurant equally good ! The negative things you may read are from hard to please people. Bom Bom is sexy and fun, beach is perfect, rocks on bracket that I heard from others are decorative on the shore.... Pretty. Entertainment crew are professional and fun. Internet all over resort, room service is super. Yes, limited menu but room service ? Whoo hoo ! Casino out back, shady to say the least.
