“Wonderful resort”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was our second visit to this resort and we were not disappointed. Service was excellence. Food was good. Our favorites are the steak house and lobster restuarants, but we tried them all
We stayed in building #2 second floor, pool view. The front desk was great. Our travel agent (ex-travel agent now) messed up our reservations but at check in, they were so helpful and quick to make things right. We lost power for about an hour one night, instead of being a horrible experience, everyone partied in the halls and comman areas by emergency lights. It was fun the staff were all over making sure everyone was safe. Great job.
Suggest bringing bug repellent. We got some bites walking the grounds at night.
We are going back in may and can't wait.

Room Tip: Swim out rooms were nice but we always take a 2nd floor room. Don't want to get bug bites at nig...

Although the Hotel was not to the standard of Excellence Riviera Maya Mexico it was not as expensive, hence the phrase you get what you pay for. Reception staff could not have been more helpfull, especially Pauline. The food could have been more varied, each restuarant had the same menu every night, and served hotter, in many instances on the self service dishes you would get half a portion and go back for the second half when finished to ensure it was warm/edible. We found the pool and beach team very helpfull keeping everything spotless, the only let down was if your towel was not on a bed by 8am forget the bed, very Germanic of the high population of Americans. I was most impressed by standard of the room and the ladies that maintained them. You have to expect the beach sellers and some of them were very polite even though we made no purchase, one in particular Pierre selling riding trips. The biggest disappointment had to be the Thomson rep Rafael, we had booked from England to do whale watching via coach expecting a 3.5 hour journey, at his introduction/welcome meeting, which was more of a sales pitch than a welcome, he proceeded to sell the whale trip to the other guests, we were amazed when he stated "dont go by coach it is 4.5 hours each way it is dusty and pointless, flying is the only way he would recommend". When we refered him to our booking he immediately back-tracked and then stated he would do us a special price to fly for another GB£100 each this equalled the original brochure price, when we questioned this he started dealing with another guest John Wright. Suprisingly when we spoke to Mr Wright the following day with another guest from his meeting we all agreed that the rep reminded us of a typical city "wide boy". To add insult to injury the trip we had booked did not actually exist on the day we had booked and paid for. As a result we missed the trip that was the purpose of the holiday being our 25th anniversary. Thomsons lost all the bookings from those at the meeting due in my opinion to the rep. Entertainment was reasonable though very loud. Would definately recommend the private taxi from the air port as it is direct and a lot more comfortable after a long flight (10hrs) Perhaps the hotel chain could recognise that Brits also use their facilities and would appreciate tea making facilities instead of coffee.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in Excellence after staying 3 nights at Hard Rock Punta Cana.
Very different from humongous Hard Rock. As soon as you walk in you get the feeling of walking into an elegant place - like a palace. The check in was very fast and bell desk very courteous. Te bell boy named Victor was so good. He told us everything like a guide while walking to the room with our luggage. The room was smaller than the one in Hard Rock and bath room much smaller but still nice. We wanted a room with better view, so we called front desk. Next day they gave us another option. We still were not thrilled. Then Alexendar at Front desk gave us keys of another room to check.. We loved that as it had beautiful ocean view. They all try their best to please you.
The restaurants are great. The open indoor yard in French restaurant was a breathtaking place.
Mexican restaurant was great too. A trio played music and sang a romantic song for us at our dinner table. We loved it. The best I enjoyed was the outdoor little place with beach view for al carte breakfast. You must try having breakfast there at least once, though the variety is not as good as the buffet breakfast. Nightly entertainment was very good. Loved the dining style chairs and the service they provide during the shows. We found the little flea market on the beach adjacent to the resort pretty interesting. You can bargain them down a lot for shopping. Overall beautiful experience. We don't recommend buying the transportation in advance. Taking cab is much more comfortable and quicker. Another advantage this resort has is the water activities shop on premises and some of them are complimentary. This is an adult only place for mature couples who just wanna relax or young couples who want to spend time just romancing. Hard Rock on the other hand is big place with a lot to do including a casino. We loved both the places.

Room Tip: For all water activities you can save if you go to the special shop at the end of the property on be...

This is our second visit to this resort, third to excellence group. Overall this is a lovely resort with a beautiful location and grounds.
The majority of staff are very hard working and try their utmost to ensure you have a great time but are unfortunately let down by some of their colleagues! On various occasions we were neglected while staff fawned over some people that obviously keep the dollar bills coming. I always tip when good service received and so was a little shocked that on occasion we were treated in such a shabby way when it was almost impossible to get a drink let alone feel important!! I will say the problem only seemed to exist in Toscana and the lobster house and so perhaps management should carry out some quality checks there when the restaurants are busy.
I have read many complaint regarding food and I must say I cannot agree with those comments, there is always something to eat and the quality is good when compared to European all inclusive resorts where it really is poor!
The rooms are lovely and clean although on occasion not cleaned until after 1700 hrs which I felt unacceptable!
My biggest problem with this hotel is actually more about the clients than the staff, we found unless you are up early it is impossible to get sun loungers with any shade. We saw many people had reserved loungers both by the pool and on the beach, consequently there were always loungers around with towels on but no people for many hours, I feel the hotel should be vigilant to this and act on it as it completely ruins the experience for those of us that are not completely selfish and rude!
Sounds like I have just moaned about petty things here but sometimes simple things make a huge difference to a holiday you have paid a fair price for, don't be put off coming here as it is lovely but there are definitely some issues for the management to tackle!
I am writing this review while I still have a few days on resort, hoping we won't see any more mediocre service!!!

If you are wanting the ultimate All Inclusive adult / couples experience, go here. I really don't know about this VIP pass stuff. That's over the top and quite pricey. No need to spend the extra money. We have now stayed at around a dozen all inclusives in the past 12 years and this was the best by far. The rooms are spacious. The air conditioning is more than ample. The jacuzzi almost in the middle of the room was strange, but huge, if you like that sort of thing. We had a Junior Suite with Ocean View. (3111) The beach was amazing. The wind was up the whole time, so too high of surf for boogy boarding, but very scenic. The service, hospitality, friendliness and welcoming attitude of ALL the staff was remarkable. It didn't matter if you were tipping for every drink or never tipped, you got the same amazing service. I just caution you though, the sunshine is fattening. The Banana Mama's delivered to your lounger every 15 mintues or so are not. The weather was fantastic. This time of year, there are no bugs. They put on a very good show every night in the theatre. There are really only two huge pools and this is the only all inclusive we have found where the water temperature in the pools was acually comfortable enough to actually swim in. All others have been frigid. The site is large, but actually one of the smaller sites we've stayed at. It only takes 10 -1 5 mintues to go from one end to the other. We foudn teh food to be of quite good quality and nicely spiced. No reservations is good. There are enough places that if there is a line at the one you wanted to go to, move on to the next. They are strict on the no shorts rule as indicated in the brochures. This is a good thing. You don't get inappropriate wear at a nice restaurant. (Ruins the atmosphere when some ignoramous slouches in with a tank top, shorts and flip-flops when you are trying to have a romatic evening at other places.) There is free horse rides along the beach too. Something only offered for lots of extra money elsewhere.

We went there for our anniversary and told them about it. We got a sash on our door, fruit and chamapgne in our room and a special menu in the restaurant of our choice, no extra cost.

I suggest you book your transportation to and from the airport through Prieto Tours. They only chare $45 instead of the $70 or more that others charge. (It is a 45 ride from the airport and some of the roads are not the best.) You'll need to book another tour with them for that price. We took the Safari tour, on the big wheeled truck with endless supplies of R & C (Vitamins) or beer and greatly enjoyed it. You got a lot of information about the country and way of lfe, saw a lot of the countryside. Got a horse ride, a visit to a school, cigar factory, great public beach and lunch and weren't gone all day. Highly reccomended.

Keep in mind you are on the D.R, which is the worlds largest exporter of cigars, so there tends to be a number of them alight at any given time. You get used to it and since everything is almost outdoors, the smell / smoke dissapates quickly.

Can't say enough good about this place. We asked ourselves what could be improved and really could not think of a thing.

we spent two weeks at the excellence punta cana our arrival and checkin went as was suppose to no supprises we upgraded to the excellence club but we did not see any advantages over other then a special place on the beach.the excellence lounge needs to have a bigger ourdoor space for smokers..we were suppose to have on arrival a bottle of champagne and fruit in our room neither was there for the whole two weeks we had no fesh fruit in the rooms .the coffee pot in therooms really sucks u put the bag in and ad hot water and press it till u get the desired colour .the people who refill your coffee and fridge everyday do not take the time to check for stir sticks and sugar even to replace the coffee we had to complain to get coffee even after I paid the guy 10 bucks to leave extras in our room everyday.the beach is excellent u can walk at least amile in each direction before u come to another resort.the restraunts most were good the grill cooked great steakes and the baby back ribs was excellent we didn't do the lobster house we just had the waiter at the gril bring lobster from there as there connected.the medertrain was our worst very small portions spice was good for japaneese but no tapanapa tables.the French was not good either .the mecican was very good .the itillian which is the breakfast buffet is also good .the real downside to this resort is he space to walk around the pool was nonexistant the loungers around the pool are too close to the edge making walking seem like u ae invading other ppls privacy.the best thing we found about this resort was the lack of French Canadians which made relaxing on the beach or pool very enjoyable .we found the beach to be the best as the pool area was super hot even just to walk .gaberial at the beach maybe slow but a good waiter.little willy he calls him self super willy but we taged him little willy was in charge of games and dancing with he ladies at nite very nice guy .the room well that's another story as soon as u walk in you see the bath tub no walls except tp the toilet and shower but then u have a window nex to the bed so u can see anyone on the toilet or in the shower not a room to have people over if u have t go.was a good vacation woud we return probally not

Room Tip: 10102 is very close to the excellence lounce two doors down

Everyone here is very helpful but not all speak good english and you can finish up with drinks you dont want because of language barrier but such lovely people its hard to mind! Food varied but not huge portions and the buffets are not always that hot but that is being picky. All in all fantastic hotel everything you could want rooms great with spirits and drinks replenished daily. Not much going on around so dont go there for night life. We just wanted peace and quiet in a luxury hotel and thats what we got. If you have been to the Mexico Excellence you may well be disappointed as it is not as polished but still a great break. Horse riding on the beach is included in most packages but extra rides can be booked through Pierrea.seventy.77@Gmail.com

Room Tip: Ask for block 90000 second floor it means walking to restaurants but away from any noise
