“First Class & Fantastic Hotel... But !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

This was the best Hotel i have stayed, and we have done many in and around the Caribbean Islands. The only downside was the arrival of Noisy, Rowdy and Drunken Americans, who seem to only want to shout louder than the one standing six inches away. The plus side is they don't stay long....

Positives

Reception/Check In - Fast and efficient, Edwin was a cut above the rest.

Rooms - A little tired in places, but you cannot fault the facilities and room service.

Pools - Large and Clean, can always find a spot to chill, even avoiding the Americans. Natalie was charming, and always had a smile and a chat, as well as being extremely efficient at her job.

Beach - Sand is Golden and spotless, and the Waves make it interesting to swim and have fun. Yohanna & Lews were both lovely, and according to my Wife and Sister in Law, give the best massage around.

Food - The best ever experienced in the Caribbean, variety and quality could not be beaten.

Bars - Efficient service all round from the Bar Tenders to Waiters/Waitresses. Look out for Ramon & Gremy (Martini Bar), nothing is to much trouble, and Alexandra (Pool/Kafe), she was exceptional.

Grounds - Immaculate

Sports - Once again, whether you want tranquil or athletic, you'll find something to cater here.

To recap, you will not go wrong with this Hotel, how anyone can give negative comments on the Hotel itself or the warm friendly staff throughout the whole complex is beyond belief. The only downside is the FEW Americans that spoil it for the majority.

I have never returned to a Hotel before, believing that variety is best, BUT i WILL return here again.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome, comfortable, and content. Relaxation was easy to come by especially on the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean. This vacation was brought to the excellence level due to amazing service and friendliness from Omar ( our beach waiter ). Please ask for his services, you will not be disappointed. Omar was the BEST!!!

The hotel was being renovated which didn't effect us at all. We didn't hear any work being done. It does need some TLC so great news for future travelers.

My husband and I came here for a getaway and it was amazing. The staff was so nice and entertaining. Super Willy, Juan Carlos and all the other staff we interacted with were helpful and knew us by name. The beach was clean though we couldn't do any non-motorized water sports due to the waves. There was a lot of mosquitoes though. That was my least favorite part of the trip.

Just returned from an 8 day stay for our 2nd time! Fell in love with Excellence last year-had to go back again. The staff is absolutely wonderful, always helpful and eager to please. The entire resort is spotless, food is delicious, very romantic and there is always something to do or you can just relax in the beautiful pool and do nothing. Special thanks to Roberto Puello-the guest service manager-he goes above and beyond making sure everyone is happy. This was our first time at the spa-absolutely gorgeous! The list is endless. Would love to see the other Excellence resorts-but will be a tough decision next year. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: We love the junior suite with the garden view-just a personal preference. Very quiet in the morning...

My husband and I just returned yesterday from our 7 day vacation at Excellence Punta Cana. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary. First let me start by saying we have traveled to no less then 3 all inclusive resorts before and have cruised 3 times also, this was at the very top or our best trips ever list. A few things to remember before you go: don't forget to bring long pants for the men as most restaurants require long pants for them. Be prepared to pay $10.00 per person us funds upon arrival into Punta Cana. Also at the airport there are workers that will grab your bags off of the luggage belt and try to take you to a Taxi. If you have arrainged taxi via the hotel they will be standing outside with your name on a piece of paper that is who you need to go with, and I highly advise that you do this, it is $70.00 each way for up to 4 people and will be billed to your room upon check out. other taxi companys will stop at other hotels to drop off other guests which will take you longer and it does take an hour to get to Excellence. We were greeted with champagne and taken right to the front desk our room was ready and we were taken directly to our room that was breath taking. We were on the 3rd floor of building 14 which is the farthest building in the resort and if you can try to get closer as it is quite a walk from the restaurants. We loved our room but did regret not getting a 1st floor swim up as they would have been helpful when you get out of the pool to use the restroom . We did not upgrade to the excellence club and we did not see any difference in our service or room ammenities. We had anything we wanted in our mini bar and even got special snacks once we figured out a couple of bucks go a long way. If you don't see your brand of liquor just ask and put out a couple of bucks and they will produce it quickly, as my husband drinks crown and you have to ask and make friends with you bartenders and they will make sure it is available for you. The food is fine, not what you would expect if you were eating at your favorite place in the states but it fills a void if you are hungry. We did not have any issues with upset stomach. Don't go if you are execting to eat "gourmet food" as they do not use the type of spices we are used to. We never went hungry and were very pleased with the food. Over all we can not wait to go back and will soon. We met so many wonder people from all over the world. We did 2 excursions Buggie adventure and zip lines, we loved the zip line and were disappointed in the Buggie ride.

I loved it there! We stayed for eight days at the end of September. The beach is gorgeous, rooms are nice, food is great and the best part of it all are the people there. We got a couples massage and it was amazing. We felt like royalty!:) We went scuba diving with Franklin, who is the dive master for the water sports there and he is the best! I highly recommend going with him. There is a bartender named José Luis at the martini bar who makes some of the best drinks I've had. There are two guys who serve drinks at the beach, Gabriel and Omar and they're the best as well! The public relations lady is the sweetest lady alive her name is Yani. Overall loved it and we are going back!

Let me preface this stating that my Wife and I have never been to another island or all inclusive....

We went in Sept. which is a slow time for many island resorts. I would never go any other time of year.....as long as you buy insurance. I saw how the hotel was built to accomodate a much higher volume then when we were there. It was great to never have to fight for lounge chairs around the pool or the beach, to sit at a bar and immediately have a bartender serving us, no wait for dinner, etc.....

We stayed in building 8, which is in the "Excellence Club", and I would definitely recommend

Started off with transportation with Domincan Airport Transfers - which was good. Clean, new vehicle....driver didn't speak English but that was fine with me, b/c I don't like to bs anyway....

Drive was an hour, but for my wife and I it was an experience within itself, so it went by pretty quick. Driving through the town and seeing how these folks live - was educational.....

We did like the Excellence club. Private check in - we went there fairly often b/c they had a private area with a selection of tastey appitizers and servers who would get your drinks in their lounge area. Also free internet access, and they had Ipads for people that would like to use them, but we had our own. Also with our room in building 8, we were close enough we had free internet access. So we could video chat with the kids everyday......also they have a printer so we could print our boarding passes or anything else for free.....they had a private area for the beach, which I don't see how it could be enforced as nobody was checking to see if you should be in that area of the beach or not.....

Hotel was extremely nice! The facilities were immaculate! The pool was nice, loved the pool bar.....people would hog the pool floats though.....it wasn't a huge issue since the resort wasn't too busy - but I would definitely recommend for people to bring their own floats in case the resort is busier. We brought our own, but didn't need to use, and ended up exchanging with a local vendor for other stuff.....

Food - I would say was pretty good. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I wasn't expecting 5 star food from any resort that's all inclusive. The first night my Wife and I ate at Barcelona, which we didn't care for that much and were scared what to expect for the rest of the time we were there. We both really liked Spice, thought the Grill was pretty good, and the French style restaurant was pretty good too. Breakfast was very good, lunches were good too....no complaints on the food here....

Mini bar - was good. If you're very particular about what you drink, they had top shelf items for selection. We're not whisky drinkers, and I tried to get them to swap out whiskey for spiced rum, but they wouldn't do it, which I was surprised about....

Entertainment - was okay. We don't hang like we used to......but the nightly entertainment - I didn't think was anything to write home about, but entertaining enough. My Wife was more interested then I was. The Michael Jackson show was the big event for the resort, but I'm not a fan.....but again the nightly shows were okay and entertaining enough.....we went to the disco 1 night, which wasn't bumping. Again maybe b/c we went in Sept - but if you're looking for a club scene this may not be the resort for you....

CASINO - We're not big gamblers, but be careful. One night I walked in and gave the dealer 5000 pesos and was given $115.00....which I believe I should have gotten around $130.....then I proceeded to win, which I would approximate at about $50-$75 US, and when I cashed out I was given $110.00.......I wasn't in the mood to fight with the dealer or make a scene......but I would never gamble there again.......

The only excursion we did was zip lining - and it was a GREAT TIME! I would definitely recommend. We went on Canopy Adventures - and I would defintely recommend them over other zip lining tours. They were extremely safety conscious......

The vendors on the beach! Everything is "almost free"! They all have pretty much the same stuff. You can definitely talk them down, big time! Again, since we went in Sept. it seemed like they were hurting pretty bad for business and willing to deal a little more then maybe during their peak seasons. You can barder with these people. We traded some floats we brought b/c the resort wasn't too busy and we found we didn't need them. They were all interested in "perfume" (cologne). If you brought small bottles you could trade......After we negotiated our deal, many of the vendors would ask if we could get them some food from the resort, so we would go get some to-go meals and bring them some food.

Some things that my Wife and I saw that people complained about:

Bugs - don't know if I saw any bugs really while I was there.....

A/C - Was freezing my a$$ off most nights in the room.....

Tips - We found that tipping didn't really get us any preferable treatment at the bar...some bartenders appreciated more then others - but most of them didn't seem to react much. I made a point to tip some other workers that probably don't get it as much, (front desk, workers we had take pictures for us, etc) and they were very appreciative.....

Water - was blue! The water was a little rough - but that didn't bother my us! My Wife and I aren't the type of people that want to go swim around the ocean. We liked the waves and hearing the surf break as we layed on the beds on the beach.

The only thing that I wish was a little different was the bathroom in the room. The shower has a large size window, which is fun....but you can also see directly to the toilet......and there isn't much sound proofing.....you could throw a towel on the shower door so you could have privacy on the john.....but still.....

Overall I thought the resort was very nice and would definitely recommend!!!

Room Tip: Excellence club is in building 7 - we stayed in 8 and that was a good location. Stay on the 2nd flo...
