“Disappointment, too expensive compare to what you get”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

130 USD ... it is a price for large amusement park entrance with everything free for whole day with tons of attractions (like Xcaret im Mexico). Here you get: welcome drink (juice), 3 min transport to platform, where 2 tanks filled with stingrays and sharks are. You have like 3 hours there. You cannot take photos of these with you ... you can gues why ... so they can charge you another dollars for photos. You can swim around the reef and watch fish ... same fish you can freely see around whole hotel beach if you swim a bit. You get snorker ... not like in Mexico (that it is yours), but used one and without fuse - so it is not good for beginners. Oh yea ... you can use kayak to have fun (can do it in hotel, no need to pay). Also you get massage ... 15 minutes. And bar with sandwiches, juices and fruit. That is all ... all this for 130 USD. If you have ever seen sharks and stingrays before - do not go here. This was build for mindless russians whose buy everything (if more expensive, better). I am really soory I did not read tripadvisor before I bought this one.

“Ok for those who did not see sharks or stingrays before”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

Went in October 2013. Group of four people. None of us liked it. First they take you on boat that goes 2mph to cages. Than you snorkeling with wild animal for about half hour top. Back to boat. Than off to Caribbean Sea where you can swim in open sea and have some drinks. You can dance on a boat if you want. And back to dock.
Nothing Special.

“Not erccomended if you've ever been on a vacation before....what a disappointment. Made for mid-westerners!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

This was such a disappointment for our group. We've been on several "excursions" and this was by far the worst one ever. I think if we had never been in the ocean or on vacation that this would have been better but we thought it was a complete rip-off. Caged wild animals are sad and it's obvious how unhappy they all were in their tanks. I feel like this is well-suited for those who need their hands held or would like to see animals in cages. Save your time and $ and go snorkeling on a real reef.

Good Afternoon,

I would like to explain that Reef Explorer is a multi-activity excursion on a floating island in the middle of our 40 000 m2 of protected marine life so our sharks and rays have plenty space to swim freely. We also work with the aquarium of Santo Domingo and some of their biologist visit us every 2 weeks to make sure we take good care of them.

At reef explorer you can snorkel on a open reef, swim with sharks and rays, take a kayak or a paddle surf to hunt the reef waves, you can also explore more with our power snorkel, sunbathe on our floating mats or just get a relaxing massage from one of our therapist.

Please come to visit so you can enjoy this wonderful experience.

“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

At this attraction, you are boated out to an enclosure that has a few stingrays in one pen, and a few nurse sharks in the other pen. The snorkeling equipment is questionable on cleanliness. When asked how the equipment is cleaned, one of the staff said they use water and shampoo (no disinfectant). The yellow life belt that you are forced to wear while snorkeling is nothing but a hinderance in the water. They had four electric dive thrusters that propelled you through the water but even these ran out of power after only a few people used them. Paddleboarding and kayaking were available but you had to stay close to the compound or the staff would yell at you to come back. We were told that a guided snorkel tour would take place while we were there, but it never happened. The staff seemed more intent on scraping the side of the floats and sitting off in small groups by themselves and chatting than assisting the customers. My wife took advantage of the massage while we were out there which she enjoyed (and tipped the masseuse accordingly). When it was finally time to leave, the staff all lined up and acted as if they were so happy to have you there and made sure we knew where the tip box was. They actually expected us to tip them for doing almost nothing! Unbelievable!!! I considered it a waste of $129 per person and would not recommend the Reef Explorer at all. There are similar attractions like this in the area so it might be worth checking them out and seeing what they had to offer.

Thanks for your comments !!!

First of all I would like to explain that Reef Explorer is a multi-activities excursion where you can choose which activity you want to do and when you want to do it. It's normal per moments to see
the staff scraping the side of the float to keep the platform and the aquarium clean while they don't have any clients in their own activity.
Clients can do: snorkeling, swimming with sharks & rays, power snorkeling, rays encounter, kayaking, floating mats, paddle surfing and massage.

We have several power snorkeling, as you can imagine this engine has to be
charge once and a while to have the power enough to work properly. Clients
just need to ask for it and the staff will be glad to bring them one.

All the activities except the massages are performed on the ocean in our 40 000 M2 marine park so for your safety it's mandatory to wear your life belt and also to stay in the delimited area as is a big marine park.

We are glad you enjoyed your massage and we apologize for the
misunderstanding because not all our staff speaks differents languages, all
of them speaks spanish but we do clean the equipment with disinfectant even if they call any cleaning liquid shampoo...
The animator/host is able to answer all your questions in any languages and
help you at all moment.

“Detour on drive back to resort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

on 10/12/13, my husband and I went on an excursion to the Reef Explorer where we got to swim with stingrays and nurse sharks. We were taken out to a floating platform which was really cool. The massage I had was to die for. My husband had a foot massage. I think it was a little pricey considering we only had vegetables and dip and nacho chips for a snack. We did have fruit smoothies. Our only major complaint is the ride back to hotel. There were 2 couples on the bus who wanted to detour for beer. They asked if anyone was opposed and most of said yes - we did not want to stop. We thought that the hotel they were staying at (The Hard Rock) was not an all-inclusive. Needless to say, they convinced the guide to make a pit stop and it was a less than desirable spot. The driver and the 2 couples got off and were gone for 10-15 minutes. They got back on without any beer and did not look too happy. We thought we were back on our way, but no - - we made another stop and this time the guide got out with them. They were gone about 10 -15 minutes than the driver got out, leaving us in the running bus. Again those of us on the bus felt very uncomfortable. The group finally got back in completing there beer run. Best part of this is - the Hard Rock is an all-inclusive and we were less than a ten minute drive from their hotel. We do not like to get people in trouble, but the next morning we did complain to our tour director at the hotel. He seemed shocked and said that they are not supposed to stop like that. It would have been a nice gesture if the company would have provided some sort of compensation considering it took us almost 2 hours to get back to our hotel (should have been a little over an hour). If you go on a tour - insist that the driver does not make any out of the way stops.
