My husband and I just returned from Presidential Suites, Punta Cana and are very happy with our experience. Based on the previous reviews regarding theft, we were a little worried about our stay but luckily we didn't experience any problems.
The staff were very welcoming and the hotel grounds are lovely. The rooms were spacious and the kitchen came in quite handy since we did not participate in the all inclusive option. We found that there were plenty of restaurants around the hotel. There is a BAM market and several restaurants (Brazillian, Cuban, a pastry shop, etc.) an eight minute walk out of the front gate to the left and immediately to the right of the hotel is a pizza place and a french restaurant. There are also several places to get fresh fish along the beach. We spoke to several guests and like the reviews here, many people had mixed reviews about hip the food so we didn't regret not taking the all inclusive.
Back to the hotel. The staff do work hard to keep the grounds and beach in great shape, however, housekeeping could use some improvement. It took several attempts to get washcloths and our housekeeper never brought them consistently. I just gave up asking after a couple of days. We did have a 30 minute window where our water was off, but it only happened once during our 7 night stay. As some reviewers stated previously, the finish work in the rooms are sub par. There was a hole in the wall by the closet door in the main bathroom and some wires hanging out of the wall by one of the tables. There was also corrosion on the pipes and sections of the wall that were sparkled and not finished correctly. These things were not deal breakers for us, but the property is so lovely that it would seem that they would pay more attention to detail.
The best part of the hotel was the beach! My husband and I took in the ocean views while lounging on the hammocks and beach beds every morning of our stay. The animation team comes out around 10am and give Spanish lessons, aerobics classes, volleyball games etc. They are very friendly and do encourage guests to participate. We got quite a few laughs watching other guest playing the games on the beach. Also don't miss the foam party on the beach! That was pretty awesome! Thanks to Gabriel for the Spanish lessons! He was absolutely awesome!
We didn't do the timeshare presentation, we just said no a few times and that was that. The guys following people around on the beach and pool is definitely a downside. They have your name, check in date, and room number on a list so they tell you that you have a welcome gift and the chance to have breakfast or lunch at the hotel, but that is the timeshare presentation. If you eat breakfast or lunch, they expect at least an hour of your time in return so be careful saying yes if you don't want to be bothered.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would probably return to this hotel if we go back to Punta Cana. The beach is definitely the best in the area and the staff aims to please. The nightly shows, especially the Michael Jackson tribute, are fun and offer entertainment without having to venture outside of the hotel. Oh and the couple's massage at the spa was awesome! Very relaxing.
