We have travelled extensively as a family in Caribbean and this resort was by far and away the best overall. From check in to check out the service was impeccable.
We took a taxi from Punta Cana Airport for $30 for our family of 3, it was quick and we arrived at the resort around 2pm. They had a large corporate group check out and our room was not ready, typically a point of annoyance but the communication and lounge we waited in made the time fly until check in at 3:30. We reserved a standard suite and were asked if we wanted to upgrade upon check in. They gave us tours of the different type of suites and the family full in love with the 1 Bedroom Master Suite with Swim Up. It was a pricey upgrade ($1,500 for 9 days) but well worth it.
-Mahogany furniture Table with 4 chairs with Marble floors
-Independent lounge are with sofa-bed where our 7 year slept
-Individually controlled air conditioning which worked well at keeping room cool
-Private terrace area with seating area, chairs, table on deck with step down to lounge chairs and private Bali Bed with step into pool.
-Hydromassage tub for two on the terrace
-Double wardrobe with lots of hangers and shelfs for clothes
-Two flat screen TVs with large assortment of channels
-CD Player and DVD player hooked up to living room TV
-Minibar restocked daily with Beer, Juice, Soda
-24 hour room service which was hit or miss of delivery from 5 minutes one day to 35 the next.
-Internet LAN connection for computers - no cable so bring one if wanting to connect (We also brought our own wireless network device and were able to use wifi in the room)
-Safe in closet for valuables large enough for everything we brought
-There is a buffet restaurant, two a la carte restaurants, a snack bar in the Reserve in addition
-Mizu Show Teppanyaki - great food and show, lots of variety for everyone
-Aqua - Mediterranean Cuisine - great service and food here as well
-Gabi Club in the main lobby area it is a club, bar and buffet restaurant - the buffet food was good but limited and had little variety - omelet bar was good and fast most days
- Bar H20 in the waiting area between the 2 a la carte restaurants
-Hydro Grill (snack grill in pool area with traditional hamburgers, chicken etc.)
Upon check in we were introduced to Noberto our family concierge who was attentive and handled all our restaurant bookings, have read a lot about difficulty booking but found this not an issue with him managing our dining in groups of 4 nights and 5 nights with us hitting most restaurants at Palma Real and the 2 at the Reserve.
There is also a pitch for a Vacation Club that takes about 90 minutes and was low pressure and friendly. For attending we received a return free week of hotel at the resort which we will use for sure.
Fitness & Spa:
Great work out room with attentive attendant Wendi who was always there with a towel and a bottle of water. Lots of treadmills, bikes and elliptical machines in addition to some weights and machines for a complete work out. My wife attended some classes and found them to be a great workout.
Great spa with reasonable rates and great facilities
THe kids club was amazing, open from 10am to 7pm daily with loads of activities and options to keep your child entertained, staff was attentive and organized events. There were few kids in the club however so planned activities were not run. They serve lunch and snacks in the club and have a lot of games (Foosball, Air Hockey, Table Tennis, Xbox, Nintendo, Board Games etc)
There is also a small store in the club with everything you need and don't need.
Shuttle to Beach and Mall:
The hotel itself is not on the beach so a shuttle is required to go to the beach where a private area is set aside for Reserve guests. Lots of chairs and Bali Beds for all with drink service and a bar available for food.
The shuttle was typically reliable but slow at times, particularly when coming back from the beach. It was however a 5-10 minute walk to the room so not too bad.
The Palma Real mall in about a 10 minute walk and has many stores and restaurants available, everything was more pricey than US so we only bought what we forgot so to speak. Pharmacy was there as well for any medicinal needs.
Overall the resort was great and we will defiantly be back again, staff was great and we enjoyed the vacation and facility immensely. You cannot go wrong here.
