An absolute dream destination, a true 5-star resort!
Rooms, grounds, pools, restaurants, staff, beaches etc all kept to the highest of standards.
Make sure you visit the H2O bar, close to the Reserve's reception area. An excellent bar, run by one of the BEST bartenders you will meet. He's nicknamed "The Cuban", his name is Luis. Not only did he do an excellent job to make our vacation great, but (without even knowing it) also made my proposal to my girlfriend more special, as well as celebrating with us after we were engaged :)

The Reserve is separated from the larger Palma Real, a little more private and exclusive, but close enough to the bigger resort that you feel included and connected. Easy walking distances and great "shuttle" service by golf carts whenever / wherever you need to go.

There was a lost bag at the airport and all staff at the Reserve were excellent in their assistance. They were making calls and every effort to get our bag ASAP, even having someone drive us to the airport to look for it. When the airport couldn't release it that night, someone from the Reserve drove back the next day, collected the bag and placed it in the room. Not part of their job description, but an important part of excellent service!!

Palma Real is highly recommended, and having gotten engaged here, it is a memory that will last forever!

Room Tip: Our room faced away from the pools and was very private and quiet, yet very close to the reception...

Great resort. We have stayed at Paradisus Palma Real 3 times and last week for the first time The Reserve. Both resorts are great. Good food, service and a high quality resort.

All of the staff do an outstanding job. There are 3 staff that really stand out. Big Juan Peguero Our Gabi Beach waiter was the best. Totally professional and good at what he does. We looked for him every morning and we saw him in the evening for dessert after dinning.

There are also 2 young ladies that hostess in Mizu and Aqua restaurants. Leidy Espinal and Marlenia Belliard are so calm and polite under the pressure of fielding a night of reservations. Not all of the guests act as if they are in paradise and can be difficult. These 2 up and coming young ladies could handle anything that came their way.

Just an FYI taxi fare to resort is $35 and you can get a cab without a reservation. The Punta Cana airport is a little primative and disorganized. Just be patient and have $10 ready for your entry fee.

You will love Paradisus and don't listen to all the grumpy people out there. Enjoy!

First time to DR and loved every minute of it. We are very picky travelers and having toddlers with us we were very hesitant. From the moment we pulled up to the Resort to the moment we sad a sad goodbye we enjoyed every aspect of this resort. The staff became family the rooms were spacious and clean and the kids were never bored.
If there was anything that seemed like a problem they made it an easy fix. We never heard no!
Juan Bautista was funny helpful and a pure delight. Sheerly and Tiren were our morning sunshine. They treated our kids like there own. The gabi club was our second living room.

Room Tip: Anything on first floor they do not have elevators

Spending the extra to stay at The Reserve over the main resort is definitely worth it... It has a much nicer ambiance.. it has all the ammenities of the main resort in a much more relaxing and calm environment. The groundskeeping is magnificient.. it would be nice if the housekeeping and indoor upkeep was as consistent. Some days we had housekeeping cleaning our bathroom at 10 pm at night! Towels were not always replaced in our bathroom daily after the soiled ones were removed. The suite itself was not terribly clean either and you could tell things needed to be freshed up and repaired. I went to the spa and when I went into the shower , the tap fell off!

I would like to commend certain staff members who were extremely friendly and helpful. Shenlly is the petite bartender at the Gabi Club.. she was always eager to help! Her English is perfect and my Spanish is non-existent so having her make your drink as customized as you want is easy. When she noticed a capaccino maker in the library was not working.. she offered to go and get us one from the bar. She should get recognized by management because I saw how hard she works. She never sits idle.. Cuba was the other bartender over at Mizu/Aqua. He is ever so knowledgeable (and friendly) about which cocktails to have before going in for the Teppanyaki dinner at Mizu. Andre was a friendly waiter at the Gabi Club. He managed to always say hello to us even when we were not at one of his tables. Now, the not so good... I was not so impressed with our "concierge' Tony. He wanted us to attend a presentation about a vacation points plan. i really didn't want to go as my family was there for a short holiday. Howver, we felt badly for him so made arrangements to meet him on a Saturday at 9. We waited 10 minutes for him and then went inside for breakfast. My son (who has the biggest heart), went back a few times to look for Anthony in the lobby just in case Anthony "didn't see us". We bumped into Anthony the next day and he did not apologize for standing us up. He just said he found out he was off that day. Thanks for leaving us a message Anthony!! Also, I had asked him to make dinner reservations at The Gabi Beach Club for 6.45 on Saturday. Well, he made one for 8.30 at Aqua!! I spent Saturday morning rearranging the reservations. On our final day -Sunday- he just avoided us altogether. That young man has a lot to learn about customer service. A sincere apology would have gone a long way.

As for meals - our preference was Gabi Club for breakfast the Gabi Beach for lunch and dinner. Skip the other restaurants!!

The staff at the Reserve go out of their way to meet your every need, especially if you recognize good service with gratuities. They are friendly and professional, and when a couple problems arose, they were quick to address the issues.

The pools at the Reserve are very nice - among the best around - especially when you want to escape the hot tropical sun. The landscaping and foliage details surrounding the pools contribute to an atmosphere of relaxation - just as you’d expect from a resort like the Reserve. The beach at Punta Cana is nice, but the music-blasting booze cruise and party boat noise is disruptive if you’re looking to relax. If you’re happy hanging around by the nice pools, however, you’ll be happy with what the Reserve offers. In fact, we spent much of our time at pool during the week we visited because the pool areas were so private and relaxing. While visiting, be sure to see some of the evening shows held at the main Paradisus Punta Cana plaza. Families old and young alike seemed to enjoy the dancing and circus acts.

Rooms at the Reserve range in size, but they all seem to be very spacious, nicely appointed and comfortable. The beds are not the most comfortable by 4+ star accommodation standards, but they suffice. The rain shower is awesome. However, noise from other guests is an issue in the rooms. The doors to the rooms slam every time a guest enters or exits their room. The slamming is so loud and frequent that it disrupts any bit of relaxing being done in any of the rooms in the building. To make matters worse, many guests don’t seem to mind slamming the doors at all hours, not least when they return to their room belligerent drunk in the wee hours of the morning. For a resort like this, the noise from the doors and from other guest rooms really should not be an issue.

Note: The review above is for the Reserve as a hotel, excluding the food, which I will review separately despite the restaurants being part of the all inclusive resort. If you enjoy good food, don’t do an all inclusive resort or beware that food in the DR in general is prepared without spices and after a few days you’ll long for something with flavor. Breakfast buffet options were good, with standard breakfast fare and excellent fruit, but the lunch and dinner restaurants at the Reserve and Paradisus Palma Real, with the exceptions of Hydro Grill for lunch and Gabi Beach for excellent lunch and dinner meals, ranged from bland to more bland.

The staff is extremely accommodating, the resort is outstanding, and the food is exceptional in all restaurants.
