“A Perfect Island Getaway”

This resort was all that we could ask for in a summer vacation. We had a pleasant experience from the time we stepped off of the plane. The folks at NH Royal Beach took very special care to ensure that our stay was worry-free and enjoyable. The food was great (which was a pleasant surprise considering that our friends whom had been to other Punta Cana resorts found that to be their biggest complaint), there was always something to do, and the staff was extremely friendly. The hotel was very service-oriented and did a great job mainaining the grounds, the rooms and the pool. Overall, the staff went above and beyond to remain attentive to our needs and requests and ensured a very relaxing trip that we would recommend to anybody.

If we had one problem it was a simple mixup with the room. Although our room was amazing, we originally requested a king-sized bed and were given two doubles; however, the housekeeping staff helped us to push the beds together and ensure that we were not uncomfortable at all.

Just a sidenote, the hotel definitely caters to couples, which was perfect for us; however, if youre a large group of friends I would probably not recommend it. They had fun shows and entertainment at night but overall the nightlife was lacking a bit and it was more of a low-key atmosphere.

My wife and I spent the week of our anniversary 7/13/2010 to 7/21/2010 at the NH Royal Beach. We felt that the resort in general and the rooms in particular were very clean and comfortable. We found the food to be good. There was always a variety of meals available. The employees seemed genuinely happy and eager to make our stay as comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable as possible. The staff really took their job in the area of hospitality seriously. Special thanks/kudos to Esther, Jose, Celso, Neudy, Jaqueline, Hansel, Wilkins, Yolenny, Marinelba, Isaiah, and Jenny.

We would definitely recommend this resort.

Let me begin by saying that my husband and I had a fantistic time at the NH Royal Beach. We had absolutely no problems while we were guests. I know that I will forget many things, but here are our highlights.
The beach, sand and water were breathtaking! We loved the palapas, towel service and bar service. We never had trouble getting a palapa. Although there were some sellsmen, we never had a problem with them.
The service was spectacular. We felt like royalty wherever we went. We had no problem with anyone. A few people stood out, Abraham (every meal a joy), Isabel (a doll), and many, many more!!! Even though you do not need to tip these people, please do! They are so sweet and work so hard! We took a couple of hundred dollars in $1 and $5 with us for tips.
Our room was beautiful. It was always clean with no musty smell. Our refrigertor was filled everyday with no problems.
The resort was clean, and beautiful. We never saw a piece of trash or anything out of place. Although the resort was booked, we felt like we were the only ones there. It was a wonderful, romantic place.
As I said, we loved this resort. We are ready to go back! Thanks NH Royal Beach! Keep up the great work!!!

I never write reviews and have travelled all over the Caribbean and Mexico so believe me when I say that this place is AWESOME! It is by far one of the best places I have ever been. The beach is gorgeous, the rooms are nice and clean, and the food is actually good. We ate at three of the a la carte restaurants (Italian, Asian, American Steakhouse/Seafood) and they were all very good. What really makes this resort so great is the people that work there; from the waiters to the bartenders to the people at the front desk everyone was so nice and friendly. Don’t hesitate to book a trip here, I would go back tomorrow if I could.

It was an excellent trip...one of the best i've ever had. I was very reluctant to stay at a resort. I'm just not a resort kind of guy. I've travel extensively and I usually option a vacation rental so I can enjoy the culture of the country I'm visiting...but for this occasion (TOTAL R & R) this was the best option. The drive from the airport to the resort...about 20 minutes. The check-in process quick and easy with welcome drinks available upon your arrival. O and the drinks flowed freely and were far from being "watered down" ...which was my concern with it being an inclusive deal. But no, they were great...champagne with breakfast, wine with lunch and dinner and cocktails all day at the beach or in the pool. The beach and the view are breathtaking....absolutely fabulous! You won't be disappointed; white sand, blue/green water, it is like a postcard! We never made it to any of the a la carte restaurants that the resort had to offer. The buffet was large with a wide variety of foods. Plus we meet interesting people during our stay and we all wanted to have dinner and chat with each other so several of us cancelled our reservations at the a la carte restaurants so we could be together for dinner each night.

After dinner it was more drinks on the Plaza...then off to the disco; which I must say was my biggest disappointment at the resort. I didn't mind that the venue was not air conditioned...I love the heat. But if I must sweat...can the DJ at least play good music!!!!! OMG...he was only interested in playing what he liked...shouldn't he be catering to the resort guests. In addition, when he did get a good string of songs going he would kill it with something from out of "left field" and everyone would stop dancing....after a disco is for dancing!!! Now that I got that off my chest....that was my only disappointment.

All the servers are great!! A big thanks to Josefa...we sat in her section at the buffet everyday (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for our entire stay. I recommend you seek her out on your trip...ask for her. She will take really good care of you. Margarita at the "pool swim-up bar" is awesome too...very attentive to your needs and makes sure your glass is always full. Dewars, Dexbi and Dalhin as all great too. The servers are very friendly and very accommodating. Please take care of them at the end of your stay; even with it not being necessary we tipped all of them at the end of our stay.

One last thing, if you're gay; don't second guess this location. It's an adult’s only resort...so we found a pretty nice group of gay travelers while we were there and hetero-couples that were gay friendly. We all dined and hung out together for days without any issues. I did notice one thing...a gay couple that arrived towards the end of our stay was in the pool savagely "making out"...which was inappropriate on so many levels (gay or straight); they did attract attention from some hotel staff and I heard comments being made amongst the staff. So I would discourage any "OVER THE TOP" displays of public affection. They never said anything to the guests and would never, but you also want to make your respectful of the culture.

Overall hotel rating: 3 star

Pros:
Hotel - very clean, modern decor, great location (30 mins from airport), provides plenty of entertainment & activities

Food/Restaurants - The buffet provides plenty of options & the food is pretty good. As for the individual restaurants, Pure & El Mortero were pretty good. Keep in mind, most of the specialty restaurants require advance reservations (so book after you check-in to the hotel). Also, the specialty restaurants have a limited menu so if you're looking for more options, you might want to stick to the buffet.

Beach/Ocean/Pool - FANTASTIC!!!!! Thanks to the hotel for having security on-site. We never felt unsafe during the day or night because security kept a watchful eye.

Rooms - Spacious, love the jacuzzi & overall very comfortable. Nice mini-bar & bottle water/soda available everyday. TIP: (1) bring some Febreze or room spray - it's a tropical place, therefore, the room at times smells musty. (2) Keep all belongings in your safe when you're not in your room (camera, jewlery, money..etc). Unfortunately, I left my camera out & it was stolen.

Staff - ALL so VERY nice & willing to go out of their way to see you happy. My only hope is that they are compensated for the hard work they do.

Cons:
Hotel - (1) You will be charged a hefty fee to make an international call from your room. We used a prepaid calling card & we were suprised to receive an additional $30 charge to make 3 short phone calls home regardless of using a prepaid card or not. I used this same prepaid card to make calls to the US from Costa Rica & was never charged....just hotel policy I guess. (2) Access to Internet - is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. We suggest to provide more options in an effort to offer various prices for various time slots needed. (3) For the 1st floor rooms that face the staff walkway, it would be great if each patio came equipped with shade or some sort of curtain for privacy while using the jacuzzi - just a thought.

Food/Restaurants - The Itailan restaurant needs a serious revamp. We are not picky eaters but took one bite of our entree & left. Apparently, we were not the only couple who felt the same way. The Japanese restaurant was a 2 star - it was ok, just not great. The only option you have is a stir fry dish. Again, most of these specialty restaurants offer a very limited menu.

Excursions - Carnival Festival (swim w/sting rays & sharks + snorkeling) would have been a great tour had there been less people. It appears they overbook these trips in the afternoon which makes it tough to enjoy your activities. Instead of watching the sea life we had to watch out for the mass of people kicking you with their fins. Our suggestion - GO but do it in the morning.

The Gift Shop - WAY OVER PRICED!!!!!!! In addition, this is the only place in the hotel where we the encountered the staff being rude. Otherwise, the staff was wonderful.

The Fitness Center/Gym - Needs some serious improvement. The workout equipment is minimal. Suggestion - Add some additional equipment, workout bands, workout ball...etc.

Suggestions:
- Bring an insulated thermos for drinks. Otherwise, you'll be making multiple trips to the bar
- Bring $1's for tipping (not required but we wanted to show appreciation to those that really made us feel so welcome)
- Bring bug spray
- Bring inflatable rafts for the lazy river
- Keep an eye on your stuff while at the pool & on the beach (while we were there, people had their sunblock, rafts & camera stolen)
- Bring febreeze or room spray
- Last but not least...make sure your sunblock is waterproof NOT water resistent. We learned the hard way!

My husband and I had originally booked at NH Real Arena through our travel agency. Upon our arrival to the hotel, we were talked into upgrading to the adult only hotel next door (NH Royal) for and additional $20 a night. Beware of this!
Once we gathered our luggage, we were taken to the lobby of the NH Royal by golf cart. The appearance of this lobby was a huge let down. This is when I should’ve known something was up!!
We were offered a 2nd floor garden view room (big difference from the deluxe suite that we had originally booked) because that's all that was available. We got to our room and realized that we were actually given the "guard view room"... no garden in sight. This room was located at the main gated entrance of the hotel where cars drove by constantly and the guard would stare right at us giving us no privacy at all. My husband went to the front desk to complain and was told that they would speak to the guard to give us more privacy. This solved the problem only until the next shift began. The next morning I went to the front desk again and demanded a new room. The only room available was another garden view but on the 1st floor this time. The locating of the room was a little better but being on the first floor, we had a ton of mosquitoes. So definitely bring bug repellent! I made the mistake of not bringing any and paid $18 for a bottle at the gift shop. I would have to spray myself and the bed sheets every night before going to sleep or else I'd wake up eaten alive.
The food was mediocre. I noticed some of the same food that was served for lunch was being served again for dinner. Not much of a variety. They also had strange combinations of food for example, tuna on pizza! Good thing I'm not a picky eater!
The wait staff was polite but didn't speak much English. This made things very difficult at times for communicating. Also, Men, bring long pants! The first night we were not allowed into the buffet by the manager (who was very rude throughout our stay) because my husband was wearing shorts. This is key information they should be giving the guests upon check-in!
Lastly.... The worst part about my honeymoon nightmare was that I was in bed sick for 4 out of 8 days of our vacation. I had a fever, chills, severe stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting. So definitely take lots of precautions when drinking the water and brushing your teeth. Bring Imodium or pepto because the gift shop will have nothing for stomach ailments. (Even though they have a broad range of meds from Tylenol to Viagra! Butttt nothing for a belly ache?!? Hmmm makes you wonder.) On the 4th day of feeling like death was at my doorstep, finally someone who spoke English called the room to ask how our stay was and I got to express my worries. She informed me that there was a doctor on the resort but it would be an extra charge. She was at my door within 5 mins to take me by golf cart to the NH Real side where the doctor was located. She asked me where I had last eaten and I told her the buffet. She then turned to the driver and said " LA BUFFET!!" (hmmm... I think she knew something she wasn’t telling me) The Doctor looked like he had been taking a nap when I got there. He examined me and told me that from the sounds of it I had a bacterial infection in my intestines. He told me I would need a few medications (one being antibiotics) and a shot on my rear end. Petrified of needles, I asked if there was the same med in pill form and he said no. With hopes of salvaging the last day and half of my vacay I went through with it. $400 later, I was finally feeling better the next day. Halleluiah!! I went to guest services and asked to speak to someone about the situation. I spoke to a man named Dimas. He listened to my concerns and frustrations but did nothing about it!! I told him that I had also heard a few fellow guests talking about how they too were really sick but he just brushed it off. Instead he offered me a fruit basket for my troubles... I told him to keep it because I would probably just get sick all over again from eating their fruit washed in there tap water.
I truly feel something should be done about this situation. I have read many other reviews where people are getting very sick. It’s not fair for us to spend all this money to be in bed for all of our vacation. I really hope they look into this problem because it's not safe!
