Just returned yesterday from NH Royal Beach Resort. Rooms were spotless and fresh. If you have a problem with way too soft pillows, you'll have a stiff neck with the ones they provide there! Value wise, it was great for the price. A few disappointments that were a little hard to ignore: pay additional for internet use; all the bars had limited supplies of our favorite liquor (Absolut Vodka) - like - by noon each day, there was no more, but by far and away the most troubling feature of this resort is their restaurat reservation policy. They have a long way to go with this. It was to be perfectly frank, horrible. You can only reserve with a rep at either of two kioks in the lobby (always a wait, of course) and we were only able to get reservations at three of the restaurants for the entire six days we were there. No availability at the French, Asian, Shore Grill and even theBeach BBQ - at all. Yet, and other traveler's at the resort agreed, most of the time the restaurants were empty (for the ones that you were able to reserve)!!! This is just crazy! We were getting stress on our trip to get away from stress! And if you attempted to ask to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant, if you didn't have a reservation, you were flatly efused entry. And do not dare be more than 5 minutes late, because you will be denied entry. Management should really address this issue - it is a serious one and would really deter us from returning to an otherwise really nice place.
Once at the restaurants, the presentation was excellent as was the quality of the food (Mexican, Italian, and Pure) ( but limited menu choices). The buffet was also above average in quality and variety.
Beach was really nice, clean and well kept by the resort. Plenty of lounge chairs available at all times. Staff at the bars, restaurants - all over the resort - were great, friendly and affable. Not a major big deal, however, we did notice, especially at the pool bar, that they were short staffed - Ernesto and Basilio were terrifc and they hustled all day! Another nice feature of this resort is you are able to utilize their sister resort, NH Arena, which was very nice.
All in all, good value for the money, hope I gave you some good tips on this nice resort. One tip, leave plenty, and I mean plenty of time when you depart Punta Cana at the airport - it was probably one of the most frustrating, archaic and hectic airport experiences that we have ever had.
