I toured this property in Punta Cana and was very disappointed in it comparing it to other Secrets properties in Mexico and Jamaica. This once was another property and it was taken over and changed to a Secrets. It's a nice property......not worthy of the higher rating, but by no means of the decor and standards of the original secrets properties. If you have been to others, you will be greatly disappointed, if you have not been to another Secrets property/you will be fine. The service and food is wonderful......it's only the decor that left me with this feeling. There is a lot of concrete on property and the property lacks in the tropical feel. If pricing is good, it will be fine/but if the pricing is up there with other resorts/be careful as not to purchase based on the name and reputation.

We just returned from an 8 day stay at Secrets Royal Beach, this was our 8th trip to the Dominican, 1st time at this resort.
Comparing it to some of the others we have stayed at there were the good, and the bad.
Starting with the good...The grounds were kept immaculate. The room was nice. The staff was friendly, the scenery was pretty nice as well, but concidering we were in the Dominican, we have never went to a Resort, where the scenery was bad!
Now the bad....This is the first Resort in the Dominican that I literally felt like I was on pluto, I know quit a bit of Spanish, but the staff (most of them, atleast 90 percent) knew NO english) I would ask for a washcloth and the maid would bring me bugspray....The Resturants were just as bad, hard to order from the menu, unless you would point to what you wanted...We went to several Resturants, where the Manager took our order, and it ALWAYS was wrong...it was pointless to complain, that took too long, and they had no clue what you were talking about, so it was easier to eat what you were served...very frustrating! The buffets were the same thing, over and over, we were so surprised by that, we have been to so many other Resorts that change their buffets, the food got tiring...We did not eat at the Italian, we sat down and ordered our drinks, my husband and I were sweating so bad, we knew we couldn't eat anyway, so we left, no air conditioning in a packed Resturant in 80 degree weather with no air circulation sucks.
We did not eat at all in the French Resturant, we had met 4 different couples that got food poisioning from that place so we stayed away...they lost acouple days vacation laying up in their rooms...sad!
The nightlife there was so boring, we are in our mid fifties so we didn't want to shake it all night, but the shows were soooooo boring! we met some younger people that we ate dinner with that wanted to stay up, have a few drinks and hit the disco, we didn't plan on staying up until midnight when the disco opened because the shows were so boring, you were half asleep by 9:00 pm. They hit the Disco a night, and it was like a sauna, so hot in there, they lasted a half an hour and left.
The TV had 6 channels in English, another 1st in the Dominican for us...
We met people that had booked a swim up room last April and when they arrived got a garden room, they were told the hotel had over booked, they didn't get their swim up room until they had been there 3 days, needless to say... they were MAD!
As far as us going back to the Dominican...YES...just not to SRB...we have been to alot better resorts in the Dominican for the same amount of money!!!

Room Tip: Swim up rooms are close to the Resturants or stay in building 5 2nd floor!

The resort is very nice and clean but the food was mediocre at best. The breakfast was fine because you get eggs made to order but other than that it was hard to find something good to eat. The desserts all tasted funny. The steaks and fish at dinners were ok. By the end of the week stomach couldn't handle any more food. The staff was nice but definitely need to work on more english because hard to communicate what you wanted for drinks and/or food.

Room Tip: I would reccomend upgrading to a suite so you have view of ocean and your own hot tub

My husband & I just returned from 7 nights at SRB. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted, checked in and the concierge gave us a brief tour of the property on the way to our room. The property was beautiful, well maintained and clean. Our room was spacious and quiet with a spectacular view of the ocean. All of the staff were helpful, eager to assist and made our week the relaxing trip we were looking for.

This being said, we would not return to SRB. By midway through the week, mealtime felt like a chore. We had a hard time finding hot food in both the buffets and table service restaurants. I was also concerned about having something made at the buffet grill because of the cross contamination/poor treatment of raw meat. Breakfast was the best meal each day - fresh OJ, strong hot coffee, yogurt and pastries.

My husband surprised me with this all inclusive, out of the country, without the kids, amazing trip.

I cannot say enough good things about this resort. Ultimately, all resorts have pools, liquor and food, (along with the sun and ocean) but it's the people that make the experience unique. From Neely Alberto (our concierge/manager) and Ishmehyli in the lobby, Junior at the swim up bar, Jacky at the beach, Lounger (sp) who made our "lovers jacuzzi" and of course... our "new familia" Raul in the lobby Rendevous Bar - it is all of you that made this experience something special that we will never forget. You all work to make sure we are welcomed, feel like we are really "coming home" and that we have everything we could possible want or need. It doesn't get better than that. Thanks to all of you for making my 50th Birthday getaway something extra special. We hope we are able to come back soon(this time with the kids), see you all again, and have an equally amazing time. We will highly recommend this place to any and everyone that asks!!!!!

My wife and me had an amazing time -- the resort is beautiful and very peaceful/quiet. The "unlimited luxury" feature of this resort was very nice - 24 hour room service was great -- we utilized this 2 or 3 times.
They had an abundance of activities at the beach and pool everyday -- the entertainment team was a ton of fun -- especially "Speedy" (not sure his real name). They had fruit carving classes, different craft activities, yoga classes on the beach every morning, sand castle building lesson/competition, beer olympics in the pool, beach volleyball games multiple times a day, and many, many others.
The only thing that got a little old towards the end of our week was the food. My wife is allergic to shellfish, so we could not go to the 2 seafood a la carte restaurants at the resort. There are a few other a la carte restaurants at the neighbor resort (Now, Larimar), but you could not make reservations, so we had some trouble going there. So we ended up just eating at the buffet (La Riviera) everyday -- the food was above average, but eating there every day started to get a bit repetitive. I wish there were a few more a la carte restaurant choices at Secrets.
The staff throughout the resort was awesome and extremely nice! One particular waiter that stood out was Neury -- he was our waiter several times at La Riviera and was a lot of fun!

I would definitely recommend Secrets - Royal Beach to everyone!

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Royal Beach Hotel for our honeymoon from Oct. 2-8, 2011. Upon our arrival, they greeted us with a glass of champagne and a warm hand towel. They treated us with respect and courtesy. We were impressed with the attention we received. The whole trip was such a delight. The staff were incredibly sweet, (especially Zamara (waiter), Carlos (bar tender), George (unlimited vacation club), and Wander (unlimited vacation club), respectful and professional. The resort is well maintained; very clean! Our room was wonderful, and again very clean. The pool is outstanding; it's massive! The beach is gorgeous..white sand and blue water. The first few days there was a lot of seaweed but the staff spent night and day sweeping it up. As for the activities, we mostly did water sports. Parasailing is $40 a person for 15 minutes. Deep Sea Fishing is normally $125 a person if you book directly with the hotel, however I suggest you talk to the locals strolling on the beach for a good deal! I assure you it will be $90 or less a person. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend Secrets!
