I had an amazing vacation at Luxury Bahia Principe Esmeralda Don Pablo Collection: everything from room to food, beach and pool area very clean....The ocean was spectacular, enjoyed my walks on the beach every day, loved my view all though it wasn't ocean view, the gardens are so well maintained, flowers and all...I really miss having my coffee every morning on the balcony...The buffet and the a la carte restaurants were amazing, lots of choices and food was really fresh, I would surely recommend Bahia principe ;;;;;;; Hope to go back myself one day , what can I say for me it was a great vacation....

We had a good time at this resort mainly because of the friendliness of most of the staff most specifically Jinette(front desk, butler), Joanny (bellman), Tomas Liriauo (bellman), Maximo, Alexis, (bartenders), Jorge (waiter) and some others I can't remember their name unfortunately. The food is not very American so be careful what you choose but if you're picky you can find some good food. Highly recommend the premium bar at the Esmeralda lobby. The first room they gave us smelled horribly but they switched us the next day to a pool view room that didn't have such a strong odor. Do not take the excursion to Soana Island!! Miserable, long day and although the beach was beautiful, our area we were assigned was not and the food and drinks were horrible. The bus trip there was 2 1/2 hours although they tell you it's only an hour and they bring you to a flea market for 25 minutes.

Room Tip: Make sure your room doesn't smell. there are some that are awful.

Returned 11th of sep from the Dominican and I don't know where to start. The hotel is beautiful. The grounds are perfectly maintained with very pretty statues and surroundings. If you like exploring the hotel then this is the place for you as it is huge! Shuttles run very frequently around the hotel if you don't want to walk.

Food : recommend the Bella Italia we ate here 3 times throughout our stay as it was so yummy. Don Pablo is also very nice to eat at. There are plenty of different choices of restaurants to choose from tho including a few buffet restaurants. Seen a few people complaining about repetitive food there which is rubbish because the Esmerelda buffet has themed nights every night so there is always something different to choose from.

Pools: The pools are beautiful and very well kept clean most of them also have a pool bar which was great! At the esmerelda there is the main pool which is the busiest, then you have the jacuzzi pool with 3 jacuzzis in which is brilliant if you want to relax, then there is a quieter pool up the back of the resort which is where I liked to go to chill out and read my book :)

Beach: the beach is breathtaking, such a beautiful place to see the beauty of the Dominican, watching the sunrise is also recommended, people were up at 5am to reserve the sun loungers which I find to be a huge nuisance but we never had a problem getting one throughout the day in the sun or shade.

Staff: the staff are very welcoming and friendly, in both the restaurants and the bars. A very very huge thank you to Victor who on more than one occasion run us a jacuzzi bubble bath and left us rose petals and champagne or wine! Which was a lovely touch to our time in the Dominican! - from James Bond ;)

Entertainment: there is entertainment every night in the main punta Cana theatre of the hotel, recommend the circus to go and watch it was great :)

Before we left for our holiday Thomas cook told us there would be some building work in the hotel, firstly we was very worried about this but knowing how big the complex is we knew we would be able to avoid this. Upon arrival we discovered the building work was next to the quieter pool, which as you was earlier was where I liked being the most! It didn't distract my holiday in the slightest so there was nothing to worry about.

We done 2 excursions while we were there which was Saona island and the Caribbean festival where you get the chance to swim with nurse sharks. I highly recommend both of these trips.

Overall the hotel is brilliant with something for everyone including crazy golf, a sports bar, a market square, endless restaurants, bars and pools. When we plan to return to the Dominican we wouldn't hesitate to return to the Esmerelda as it made our holiday one of the best :)

Again I booked our holiday based on TA feedback plus reports and because we had had such a fantastic holiday at the Gran Bahia Principe Luxury Don Pablo Sian Ka'an in Mexico. (November 2012)
We booked the hotel Esmeralda based on its higher rating on TA than it's sister Luxury Don Pablo hotel, the adults only Hotel Ambar. Although now their ratings are virtually identical.
Having seen both hotels there is very little to choose between them. Esmeralda is the slightly newer and still expanding family Luxury Don Pablo hotel.
As we were a couple you would have thought we would have stayed at the adult only hotel but on all the occasions we went to the Adult only Ambar, the adults were far more rowdy and much noisier than the children at the Esmeralda.

Our room 90110 in block 90 was nearest the beach and directly beside the facilities, the buffet, the 3 restaurants on site, the beach cafe, the pool and the lobby area. At the Ambar the lobby area, the buffet and one of the gourmet restaurants are a fair trek away from the beach where the beach bar and the 2 other a la carte restaurants are.
The room was excellent. Huge bed and excellent facilities, jacuzzi bath and separate shower! Mini bar is re stocked every day, but sometimes they forget to re fill it to our requirements, but a note to the cleaner made sure this was rectified for the remainder of the holiday.

At the other end of the Esmeralda complex they were building another accommodation block, right next to the other pool area. We were well away from the work and never heard a thing during the whole holiday. However if our block had been one of those near to it, I would not have been happy, yet there were loads of people still beside the pool and bars despite there being a building site not 20ft away!!

The beach is awesome, very very long and genuinely busy at all times. The sea is refreshing although the constant flow of seaweed can be off putting. The breeze is heaven sent and if it is not blowing then you are serious trouble as due to the humidity, it is very very hot most of the time. You could walk for miles down the beach in either direction if you had the mind to.

All the staff at Esmeralda were amazing and we really mean that. They were the most polite, helpful, attentive, friendly staff we have come across. To be fair whenever we explored the complex, the staff at the other hotels on the resort were also really friendly and very attentive. This is a massive complex, even bigger than the Riviera Maya complex and that seemed huge when we last visited, but there are constant shuttles driving up and down the main avenues, so easy to jump on and off and get to where you want to go.

Cannot fault any of the food from the main Esmeralda buffet area at the Jazmin, to the beach cafe and all the a la carte restaurants.
From TA I had read it was a good idea to pre book your a la carte meals and we did that 2 weeks before arriving and it worked perfectly. Sometimes they are busy and you are not able to book even a few days in advance.
The meals we preferred were all the a la carte restaurants as they made you feel you were having a special meal. One night we had a barbecue roast in one of the beach cafes and it did not feel that special and food was just ok. Restaurants we tried which we would visit again were:

Bella Italia
Don Pablo
Garden Grill
L'Olivio
Le Gourmet
Takarra
Maiko (Tepinyaki)

Warning: Only frustrating thing regarding the hotel/complex was the availability of wifi. The wifi was only available in the main lobby area. You were allowed to book in to a free service, but this service was slow and restricted access to certain emails and downloads. To get a better service you have to pay $49 for 7 days!! Also whenever you left the lobby area and returned you had to re log into the whole system, every time. I thought this was terrible considering the quality of the hotel/complex. Wifi is so common place at all the best resorts, I cannot rationalise why the Bahia complex made it so difficult to access and offer such a poor wifi service when it is accessed. I admit this was only a minor nuisance.

As has been the case when booking holidays I have thoroughly researched the hotel using TripAdvisor and again must express my thanks to all those reports I read that enabled me to chose a fabulous hotel in a fabulous resort to allow us to have another fabulous refreshing and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Block 90 is nearest to beach.
