Where to start?
First of all, we were unsure wether or not to book at this hotel. We read some good review and some horrible ones... I must say, when you do understand how things are run in Domicain Republic, I must say I was impressed.
We booked a week all inclusive vacation for 850$ which is not much for what we got. The first day was a nightmare but we kinda expected it. AC wasn't working. We complained and they told us the manager would be here by 7pm (we arrived at 5pm). they made us wait for 4 hours before admitting they couldn't repair it the AC and we had to harass them before they admit it.. They switch us chamber 3 times. Frist time AC didn't work, second time the bed were just too worned out and finished and the last time, we got our room.
The room smelled like mold but it is normal since the AC didn't run for a few days. The bed were really comfortable and the room was clean. The next day, they showed us what would have been our final chamber but the room smelled like pee. SO in the end, we stayed in the room we got by the beach. A special thank to Rosa to help us through this. One thing you should know is it's really hard to get serve in french or even english. They speak mostly spanish or course but Rosa was excellen tand very friendly. You get a problem, get Rosa!
That's it for the rant! Second day was where the fun begins!
The beach. It was easy to get some cover from the sun and the beach was beautiful. However, this beach got some seaweed but they pick it up twice a day. You have some in the water but it didn't stop me from swimming! It depends on the season. A little tip, if you go left of the beach, a little after the natura park beach, you get a small zone without sea weed and totally beautiful to swim in it with crystal clear water! Great for a photo shooting! A shame we found out the day we left. There is some salesman trying to sell you some stuff. They weren't a major problem but after a week, you tire of hearing them. Got nothing to complain on the beach!
The hotel ground are absolutly BEAUTIFUL with wildlife everywhere and lot of trees and plants. See our photos to gives you an idea but it is by far one of the most beautiful hotel ground I have seen yet. The building are kinda old but they put a LOT of effort to keep everything clean and in shape. They got a whole bunch of animals that you can see and even feed! Try bringing some bread and watch them come! Especially the fishes!
The food now. We went to the buffet (la cana) and the breakfast was excellent with some good things and some bad. You have something for everyone but you gotta be open minded! I always found something tasty and never complain about the morning buffet. Try some fresh juice made of fresh pineaple, passion fruit and banana!
For dinner, you can go to the La perla buffet. This was our let down. This buffet doesn't have much variety and wasn't that good. But not far from there, you have a small snackbar where you get hamburger and hotdogs. The snackbar was good but remember, the beef they have there is nothing like the beef you get in North America. Keep that in mind.
The evening buffet was where things shined! They usually have a theme about one day on two. We tried the italian theme, normal and Dominicain Night. Italian was tasty with a good variety, normal was well normal!and the domicain night was by far the best for me! The food they had was tasty. beautiful and seriously, I didn't eat this much in a while but like I said, be open minded. I even tried the fish and to my surprise, it was excellent!!!!
The "À la carte restaurants". Long story short, Italian = food OK but good but the decoration felt cheap. The steakhouse = Excellent food and mood just felt so romantic! Beautiful restaurant. We didn't try the seafood but we heard it was nice too!
We didn't see many shows... in fact, one problem with this resort is there are a LOT of smokers. It doesn't bother you too much until you get them in a tiny room altogether. We couldn't resist more than 20 minutes. But to our surprise, we found a small area on top of the reception where you could play some games!
The drinks were OK I guess. I am not a big fan of booze but they have your normal stuff. They can do you lot of drinks not on the menu so don't be shy to ask. My favorite was 2 local drinks, Santos Libre and Caipi Rina. First one is some kind of rhum and coke with 7up and the other is a lime drink with rhum and sugar. Very tasty!
We did an escursion, the bavarro runners. You learn a lot of things about the country, you see and taste all sort of different fruit and local coffee, you do horseback riding (a little) and you do realise in what kind of country you are. But best of all is a trip to the macao beach.
For 850$ we got one hell of a trip and would gladly recommend it! Go with some friends or in couple.... you will not be disapointed.
