“Its not a vacation its a lifestyle!!”
Reviewed July 20, 2009

I went to Dominican with my two best friends and we had an absolute blast!!

The hotel was gorgeous and the rooms looked just like the pictures. The staff are amazing and I think they made our vacation all the better. They help you with everything.

There were soo many activities on the resort from merengue, bachata dance lessons, to pool/beach volleyball.

Every night they have a show and the shows are amazing except for the Karoake night.
They had a Night of Stars show which was definately the best. Performers dressed as stars putting on a concert!!

Excursions

We went horseback riding and parasailing while we were there and both were great. I would say that horseback riding was definately the best!! They take you an hour and half out of town so you get to see the town as well. You actually ride the horses for 2 hours and they take you down to the beach and through the forests there. It was really amazing! We paid 35/person for each excursion

We also hit a few clubs outside of the resort. Mangu and Imagine. Imagine is mostly tourists. It is in a real cave with bats flying around. Its was amazing!! Played all Merengue and other Spanish music on one side, and on the other side they played all trance/dance music. Mangu is a LOT of fun too ... they have so many characters walking around!! lol too much to see! One floor is all trance/ dance techno, the other floor is a mix of urban, reggae, merengue etc.

The only thing I would recomment they change is the check-in time. We arrived at the hotel at 12pm but could not check into our room until 3pm. I would recommend keeping a bathing suit in your hand carry so that you can hit the pool or beach until your room is ready.

Also the showers have no doors which gets the room pretty wet but we put a towel on the ground outside the shower and this problem was fixed.

The Dreams Palm Beach Resort was excellent...We stayed at the Preffered Club which offeres excellen privellages from private Beach area, private pool and Breakfast and lunch restaurant....It was great to escape the laud main pool and go to the preffered club pool....The Restaurants are amazing, it was great that you didn't have to make reservations at the restaurants but at times it can be a long wait...The Coco caffee was amazing..The maid cleaned the room twice a day which was great...The staff is very friendly and helpful...Everything was awsome the showes at the theatre were a little cheesy but overall we enjoyed our stay and would definately return.....

My girlfriend and I just arrived back from Dreams Palm Beach, and we had an amazing time! It is hard to understand how people on this forum can give this hotel such bad reviews. I guess some people just cant get over the fact that they are on vaction and need everything to be there way or no way.

Check In:
The hotel overall was amazing. Everything was very up to date and had a "home" feel to it. As soon as you get of the bus the staff is right there to help you in any way possible. The check in was very fast! We arrived at the hotel around 12pm and our room was ready and waiting for us.

Rooms:
The rooms were very clean and look just like all the pictures. Our room was cleaned everyday usally before 1pm at the lastest. We only had one problem and that was with our safe and within 10 min someone was there to fix it for us. Yes the showers are designed poorly and you will get a bit of water on the floor.( not a reason why I would give this hotel a bad review ) We had a room in the corner of building 7 which was very private and quite.

Beach:
White sand, Blue clear water, and lots of chairs if you can crawl out of bed before noon. Yes there is a bit of seaweed, but there is always someone doing there best to try and clean it up. There was also a BBQ on the beach everyday so you never had to leave the beach or pool area to get a good lunch!

Pool:
You need to get to the pool quite early to get a chair under a umbrella. The pool was very clean. There was someone in it every day cleaning it. The only complaint I have is that the pool is only open until 7pm. ( but this is to make sure it was clean for the next day)

Food:
It felt like you were having 5 star dinners every night while you where there. The food was amazing with so many different choices. We never had to wait once to get into any of the resturants. If you go to dinner at 9pm yes, you might have to wait, but there is no reason why you cant just go to the bar and have a drink.

Drinks:
There was always top notch beer and liqour at the lobby bar. They never ran out once while we were there. Any drink, any way you want it was made for you. The drinks always tasted so good.

Staff:
Everyone was so nice. They did everything for you with a smile. They work very hard and long hours. I found if you treated them with respect you got the same back. The staff got you very interactive with everyone at the resort by playing games. They really make this hotel and great place to be.

We had a great time over all and would reccomend this resort to anyone. Go on vaction with an open mind and you will have a great time.

Feel free to contact me about any questions you have.

Pros~
VERY clean.
Food is excellent.
Beautiful beach and pools.
Staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and they are very friendly- always smiling.
Maid service was very good.
Rooms are nicely decorated with a balcony.
Peaceful atmosphere.
Service at the restaurants was an A+. Never went with an empty glass.
Drinks are plentiful.
Hotel is all around beautiful.

Cons~
The casino is very small..about 20 slot machines and three table games.
The hotel does allow vendors onto the property which can be annoying if you are not interested in buying. My advice is to just say "no gracias" and do not engage in conversation if you do not want to be hassled.
The shows at night were just OK.
Guests reserve beach lounges and pool chairs over night. The hotel does make a daily attempt to stop this (it is asked not to do so in the daily event flyer), but there needs to be stronger enforcement of this policy. However; it is not impossible to find some place to lay. You just may have to walk a little further to find "your spot"...five minutes or so is all it took me and my boyfriend.

To address some other problems that I read from other travelers on this site:
-Yes, there is a language barrier at times, but it is ignorant to complain about this. You are in a Spanish speaking country. You have to expect that English is not spoken fluently. Furthermore; MOST of the staff does know English(except the maids). I never had a problem communicating. It does help to know some basic Spanish phrases. It will get you a long way.
- I have read also about other travelers complaining about the waits at the restaurants. My boyfriend and I went to El Patio, Bordeaux, Himitsu, and The SeaSide Grill. We waited once for seaside grill for about twenty minutes. Waiting at restaurants is expected. The people who complained about waiting two hours for service..I can't explain that. Maybe they were traveling with a large party?..But the wait for two is never that long, especially if you go at a non-peek time..around 9.
-One last point, my boyfriend and I always tipped when we went out to eat. Yes, it is an all-inclusive, but they work very hard and deserve a nice tip for excellent service. Even at the buffet we would give 2-3 dollars for the waiter bringing over two rounds of drinks. Restaurants we usually gave five. And we would also tip maid service and bartenders.

any questions- feel free to ask.

We were very disappointed by the custmer service at the Dreams Palm Beach resort in Punta Cana. All of our requests were continually ignored. The beaches were not cleaned and the rooms were not cleaned to our satisfaction.

I just came back from Dreams Palm Beach Resort after 8 days stay last week. This is my second trip to Punta Cana. I chose this resort because of Dreams brand(so called luxury name), 6 apples rating and re-opened in Dec, 2008 after complete remodel from previous SunScape.

Location: Located 20 minutes ride from Punta Cana International Airport. The resort entrance is not grand at all. The driveway barely let Apple Tour bus to park and go by. A very plain check-in desk and a couple of sectional sofa completes lobby area.

Landscape: Palm tree everywhere and well-maintained lawn and flower bed. The whole resort is on a limited real estate and don't require you to walk much at all.

Room: We were assigned to building 6 first floor room after being told all upper level rooms were full. The room was very damp and you can feel the wetness of the bed sheet. Next morning I went to front desk requesting for switching to an upper level room and also was told they were full. I complained to Apple rep and miraculously I was allowed to move to a third floor room with a partial ocean/pool view room in the same building. The room came with balcony with nice place to sit after whole days activities. With sufficient air-condition and ceiling fan, this is only cool shelter from hot humid weather during the whole trip. The remodel probably just means to re-paint the wall. Bath room is simply not touched at all. Also you probably already know by now, there is no door for shower and water always spills to bathroom and you have to wipe to dry using hotel towers every time you take a shower.

Dinning: World Cafe is main buffet dining facility, we ate breakfast and lunch there. Most food is good and delicious. The problem is that the place is in open air. I know we went there was not to enjoy comfortable weather, but eating while sweating is not very comfortable at all. Beer and coke glass start dripping water from outside after merely minutes. Also the cold cut meat, salad, cheese, and desert were some times in the pool of water. Other hot food are simply delicious, grilled whole fish, grilled calamari, goat meat stew, and roast pig to name a few.

The A La Cart restaurants are relatively small in size, probably less than twenty tables in each restaurant. Every night one hostess, five or six waiters/waitresses took care the service. When I was there, I have to wait one or more hours to get in and wait another half hour or more to see our first appetizers. But the restaurants are air-conditioned and well-decorated. Food are good, similar the ones served in buffet area.

Beach: White fine sand tropical Caribbean beach and blue ocean with palm tree. Nothing can top that. That's why we were here for. The wave is very calm and water is clear. Some days there were no seed weeds, others were lot of them. I guess it depends on the current. The palapas is very hard to find and beach is a little bit crowded. We were forced to move to the border area between Dreams and Nature Park(another resort) to find palapas. On the beach often you also can spot fish swimming beneath your eyes and there was constant breeze. It's really a nice to read and relax.

Pool: Two pool area. One with swim-up bar was always crowded. Another is relatively quiet. But towel game was in full swing. Even before 8AM, all the shaded seating were occupied by blue towel. It's ridiculous to see only less than 10 people in the pool but all the seating surrounded were occupied by towels not people. There is no rule in this resort on anything. Just a few lines in the Daily Sundial (resort daily paper) like please don’t' reserve seat but no one enforces rules.

Service: People work very hard in this resort form daybreak to sunset from cleaning sea weeds on the beach to delivering towel to your room. But it's very difficult to communicate with them about what you want. A couple of key spots (restaurant, bar etc) only have limited personnel, which cause customers to wait unacceptable long time.

In summary, we had a good time but certainly not a dream vacation. If you only care about beach and have some decent food to eat it's a good place for you. If you can manage your expectation well, you will have a good time. By the way, I also observed a group of people calling their travel agent in the US asking to change hotel as soon as they step in the lobby. On the day I left for home, I asked a guy standing next to me why he cut his vacation short. He simply put it "This is not a 6 apple resort".

-Entertainment staff was overly friendly bordering on annoying.
-Tipping was confusing.
