We stayed as two couples at Dreams from the 2nd to the 18th. The trip was nothing short of amazing.
Checkin was quick, we enquired about preferred club at the hotel but decided not to take it. I will expand on this further later. We were shortly taken to our rooms. The rooms themselves were lovely and spacious, we're cleaned daily with clean sheets and towels and there was a nightly turndown service.
There are two main pools and a smaller preferred club pool. The pools are massive, very clean and the water was lovely and warm. There are PLENTY of sun beds and parasols around the pool areas. There is no need to reserve beds. You can get towels from the towel hut, there is no towel card system. If you want to swap your towels for clean ones during the day, you can take them back and get fresh ones, no problem.
The beach is gorgeous, we spent most of the holiday there. Clear waters and white sands. Perfect. There is also an abundance of sun beds and parasols down at the beach.. You'll never be stuck without beds. There are a few nice places to snorkel and see some fish. You are able to take kayaks and canoes out on the water at no charge. You can also walk a fair while along the beach on either side which is nice.
There are sellers that walk down at the beach trying to sell things, however, they are only allowed at the waterline and aren't allowed to come up into the bed areas. They can be slightly annoying when you are trying to relax and a quick no thank you if you are being called to is sufficient. Also, seaweed did gather a lot on the beach, however, this is cleared up several times throughout the day so didn't cause much of an issue.
There is a main dining area called the world cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A wide variety of foods to choose at every meal and the food was always hot. There are 6 al a carte restaurants, Mexican, Italian, French, Sea Side Grill, Chinese and Japanese. You can use these restaurants as many times as you want. We chose to eat at the restaurants rather than the main world cafe for a majority of the nights. All of them were spectacular. Japanese/Chinese restaurant is combined and can be very loud, the Japanese side of the restaurant is live cooking and a lot of fun, but may be more of a nuisance if you like peace and quite during your meal.
There are 4 bars located in the hotel, there are no issues with getting drinks at any of them. Some of the cocktails were delicious and Mamajuana is definitely a must try! ;)
One of the best parts we enjoyed in the hotel was the coco cafe which is a coffee shop with a range of hot and cold drinks and an abundance of cakes and treats, open from 6am - 10pm and great if you are a coffee lover.
The staff in the hotel are EXCELLENTE! They couldn't do enough to help out. They were always happy, polite and made the hotel.
Entertainment was great in the evenings, always getting people involved and was great to watch. However, daytime entrainment was poor. There was little effort in letting people know what and when activities were starting so often were missed. There was a daily newsletter delivered to the rooms in the evening to let people know of special events, activities throughout the day, temperatures etc which was a nice touch.
We paid for the romantic dinner service, this was great. We had professional photos taken before the meal. The dinner was down at the beach under nicely lit tents with our own waiter. The food was lovely.
We did 4 excursions whilst on holiday including a speedboat/snorkel trip, a day trip to saona island, dolphin explorer and treasures of the sea. All were brilliant with no issues.
There are a couple of shops located in the hotel. These are no hassle and are fixed prices. There are some local shops down the road from the hotel, you do get hassled here but they are not fixed prices and you can haggle. There is a free shuttle service to a local mall with higher end shops and a food supermarket which was nice if you want to do a spot of shopping.
There is a small casino that we went in one night and did enjoy the slot machines. There is also a nightclub at the back of the casino but we did not go here.
Weather wise it was good. We knew before the holiday that we were going during hurricane season so we took a gamble with the weather. Only 2 days during the trip it rained, all other days were lovely and warm.
Preferred club seemed rather expensive, the pool was very small and found a majority of the proffered guests were staying around the main pool area. They had their own beach area, however this was small, only change seemed to be cushioned sun beds. We did not see the proffered club rooms but were told that they weren't much different to the standard rooms. I am not sure of any other benefits other than included wifi access.
Wifi for us cost 25 dollars for 25 hours lasting upto 6days. These 25 hours count down for the time you are using the internet. You are given a code that can only be used on a single device (so if you have a phone and tablet, you can only use it on one, you cannot log out of one and log in on the other). You can however as for 2 separate codes and split the time, we got 2 sets of codes with 15 hours each for 25 dollars so me and my boyfriend could have internet on a device each.
Overall, the holiday and hotel were superb and we could not fault it. We would definitely come back to dreams palm beach again.
I hope I have not missed any critical pieces of info, if there is anything else you might like to know, feel free to drop me a message.
