“Wonderful holiday”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

The hotel was excellent, the room very large with a very comfy bed. We were in a quiet part of the hotel except for distribution trolleys being pushed past under the balcony.
The restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and the animation team worked extremely hard, as did all the staff.
There were plenty of sun loungers by the pool and under the palm trees by the beach and there were also some double beds with roofs, which were comfy.
Food was excellent in the main restaurant and we also went to the Japanese, Fusion and Steak restaurant which were good. All the waiters were friendly and very professional.
Our only complaint was about the only trip we booked through the Thomson reps to the marine Park to go snorkelling with the sharks. After 2 hours of a 4 hour trip we hadn't even seen the sea!
This holiday enabled us to switch off and relax completely.
Our only real niggle was the time taken daily before our room was serviced and having to phone reception frequently to get more coffee bags and creamer.
We would certainly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Rooms in the left wing, on a high floor.

Firstly all the staff work hard and deserve great praise, they really are all fantastic so it would be unfair to mention names, but well done everyone.

The food was out of this world, anyone that goes hungry here only has themselves to blame it can become repetitive after two weeks but still can't be faulted for quality, the steakhouse was the best meal in our opinion that has to be reserved.
Just one criticism when you book the restaurants the 48 hour notice is dollars dependant ?

The animation team work hard and arent to pushy, and you can have fun if you get involved and meet some great people.

Booking in was quick, but our room was not a great view like promised at the time of booking with Thompson and requested,it seems we could have the top floor but not overlooking the pool as requested it felt like these were given to the Americans, however for an extra 500 dollars we were told they could move us, even though they are the same rooms, it seem that those that shout loudest get whatever they want.

Room 3316 was clean the bed was huge, view was disappointing.

The pool bar can get loud in the day, I put this down to the young Americans that come away and can't handle the alcohol, but don't know when to stop, they are no bother but the swearing is unnecessary.

Beach is beautiful and well looked after, the gardens are immaculate.

I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very nice and clean, great setting! Room super comfortable. I chose to stay here with my mother to have a quiet week after a long period of hard working. During the day you can find very relaxing beds under the palmtrees between pools and beach. Do not make the mistake to settle at the pool with the poolbar, as soon as this bar opens and especially afternoon it becomes full of loud (most american) people having one (or more) drink to many (hey it's all inclusive) Coming from Europe and being in a different timezone we went to bed around 10 pm but could never sleep before 12 because of the loud entertainment at the bar.Choose for a room in the left wing (we were staying right wing) facing the beach/or even facing garden or front. I wish I had done that.. Everybody that works here (apart from some reception and sales lady) is very friendly! (Billy, Victor, Aurora!!!) Wine was not very good unfortunately..(how difficult can it be to find a good housewine?)

Room Tip: choose a room in the left wing of the hotel facing the beach/garden, if you do not want to be distur...

No problems here... great flight, smooth transfer breezed through check in.Room fantastic as to be expected from a Palace. No issues with food drink etc lovely place and people, Animation team work very hard, I am off the opinion you get out what you put in, i like to join in some games and thats what makes our holidays, it is a great way to socialize and make new friends, there was a big span of ages here ranging from 20 up to to some in their 80's.
Lots of beds available but if you want a specific bed drop the towel guy a few dollars and you will be fine....there is also the beach. Wife was a little put off by the sea which was choppy, but i had no issues.
24 hr wifi all areas , loved skyping the kids from the pool and on the beach :) wish you were here lol
Trips... went 4x4 off road buggies theses were great and propper fun trip wifey also loved it loved it also ...make sure you wear old clothes as the limestone water from the endless puddles stains, nice touches on the Caribbean beach.. Also did outback safari, took some pencils an colouring books for local children in school .. this is a worthwhile trip, if not a little staged is an eye opener, and boogie boarding on the way back is also fun.

also did a day boat trip to Caribbean island, cant remember where but was good, lots of rum n coke flowing, lobster for lunch, can recommend this trip also. All trips booked with Thompson.. no probs.

enjoyed the holiday and hotel, great value considering its adults only AI with top branded drinks.... yes i would go back.

Room Tip: we were on the top floor great view of the nigh time lightening

Group of 8 stayed here Feb 2014. Again very satisfied with the RIU experience. The grounds were very clean, the pools & beaches were maintained, our rooms were nice & clean. Huge shower room and nice sized bathroom. Room fridge stocked every day with water & whatever else you want. Food choices in the Palaces are very good. Enough choices that you shouldn't get tired of the food in a week stay. Besides choices, I thought the food was very tasty here. Beer in DR seems to be mostly restricted to Presidente, but the liquor selection at the bars was great. Even the pool bar had top-shelf bottles available. Drinks were good & never shorted of booze. Although it was all good, the best part of the stay is the staff. If the staff are good, the whole experience is good. Staff here was very friendly and willing to talk. Entertainment crew was top notch. Fully recommended.

Room Tip: Remember this is a humid part of the world. If your room is a little musty when you arrive, just op...

My husband and I stayed here from 3-17 December 2013… we are in our 40's but very much prefer an older quieter type of holiday just relaxing without noisy drinking etc. This hotel was perfect for us. We were given a room we didn't like on the first night but it was changed the next day without any fuss. The location is beautiful, lovely pool and gardens and plenty of space with access to other riu hotels nearby ( we had a,wander round but we're happy to stay within the Macao as there, was everything we needed. The rooms are large and the bathrooms lovely and everything beautifully decorated and absolutely spotlessly clean. We don't drink alcohol so can't comment on the quality of that but all our fruit cocktails and soft drinks were good. Mini bar was topped up daily. The staff all appear to take pride in their work from the gregarious "Mr Excellent" on the front desk to the waiting, cleaning and garden staff. The food is superb, lots of choice, would be hard to see how anyone would get bored between the buffet and the speciality restaurants. In our two weeks we tried each of the speciality restaurants twice. All the restaurants were great but the grill was outstanding, rib eye of beef and lobster just to die for! It is possible to have lunch without booking at Fusion... this was a great little find, much quieter than the lunch buffet. You will find staff work together to make sure you have everything you could possibly want.. Thanks to Dominguez, the head waiter/ manager my hubby had seconds of steak and lobster! We really felt this holiday was excellent value for money and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: If you aren't happy with your room ask at reception to change. There are a handful of rooms near...
