Certainly NOT a 5-star hotel

Rooms seem to have been updated but very basic with very cheap finishes, workmanship left much to be desired ("overflowing" grout, cracked tiles, huge hole in the wall where a hair drier was hung, chipped paint on window frames, rusty metal, dirty drapes, etc.) Prison-like dark hallways in the villas.
Nice grounds but garbage cans overflowing, the ones at our villa hadn't been emptied in two days.
A good selection of food but most of the cooked food barely warm. Serving utensils "buried" in the food (no plates to put them on provided)
No basics such as an umbrella (commonly provided in a hotel room), no shampoo, conditioner or body lotion in the bathroom.
Very mixed service. Most waiters quite efficient, some friendly, some lacking basic customer service skills, most likely because of lack of training.
Next to none entertainment.
Overall, we got our money's worth but the industry should be regulated. We have been to a 3 and a half star hotels that were much better than the presumably 5-star Riu Bambu. Don't mislead people. It's a major case of false advertising.

Family vacation

We were treated like kings and queens. The guy who is in charge of the amenities is super nice, he keeps you fully entertained. The food is good, a lot of variety. Rooms are ok. Variety of drinks. Very clean. We will return.

Amazing trip

I want to start off by saying I was very hesitant and almost didnt want to go this resort after reading all the reviews , but I am so happy to say that I LOVED ever day we spent there the staff was amazing and made us feel so welcomed...and the resort was perfect the one thing I am going to clarify is the walk from one end to the other was not long at all we where in room 5217 amazing room and the walk from our room to the main lobby was not even 5 min walk ..i have nothing bad to say about this resort ..my boyfriend and I go away every years for the last 10 years and I would most definitely come back here.thank you for an amazing trip riu bambu..can wait to come back and see my riu family

BOTH VIOLENTLY SICK DUE TO TO SICNESS BUG WHIICH WAS RIFE IN HOTEL, DAMP TOWELS DAMP ROOM MOULDY DONT RISKY AIR VENTS ,

damp rooms, food poisoning , formal complaints we made were ignored after we were asked for formal complaints to judy rep and management , several people ill with stomach bugs all the same as we had and others, legionaires rife all on coast of punta cana, . noone informed us, we could not wait to come home, other people refused to stay at the hotel demanding to be moved, we stayed here 2 years ago and enjoyed it, but will never go back to a so called 5 star riu hotel anywhere again,

Room tip: do not go here not 5 star not 1 star

We are sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your overall stay at our Hotel Riu Bambu. We lament that you fell ill during your stay and really hope that you are well recovered and feeling much better! Nevertheless, we can assure you that the health and safety of our guests is taken very seriously. We follow strict procedures while handling our food products in order to prevent and avoid any kind of alimentary risks or hazards.

It is a pity that you did not ask for medical attention since we are offering medical services at our hotel. Please note that it is always very difficult to determine the cause of the poisoning without a Doctor´s diagnose and especially in far-flung and exotic destinations it can come from another source. We have not detected a relevant increase that can confirm that we have a significant outbreak. The majority of the cases have been resolved with an outpatient treatment and have been diagnosed as “traveller’s diarrhoea”. This can produce gastrointestinal problems that are not necessarily related to the food.

We hope to host you again in one of our worldwide hotels in the future!

Fantastic Restaurants

Very large hotel with 7 great restaurants serving fantastic food which was a real bonus for the five of us. The hotel was bigger than we expected and could get very noisy at times especially around the main swimming pool, the animation entertainment was again very noisy and most of the holiday makers really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t for us.
This is why we made the most of the restaurants, the Colonial restaurant was the main one which served Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Their was so much choice for everyone at breakfast you were really spoiled for choice and was opened 07:00am - 10:30am, 12:00pm - 15:00pm and 18:30pm - 10:30pm. Mama Juana is a Continental restaurant is where we had lunch on most days and again food great, opening times:
10:30am - 11:30am 12:00pm - 15:00pm and 15:00 - 17:00, and afterward this restaurant turned into the San Angelo Italian restaurant for Dinner and the opening times 18:30 - 22:30 which is the same for all the other restaurants. The Steakhouse Palm Beach was our favourite, this is the only one you need to make a reservation because it is very popular, the steaks are the best we have ever tasted, you are served with the choice of starters, main and desserts. Kulinarium is the Gourmet restaurant again serving outstanding tasty food. The Mexican and the Spanish restaurants also serves fantastic meals. The friendly staff at all the bars were very chatty and nothing was to much trouble, we spent a lot of time on the beautiful beach and enjoyed a drink or two at The Sand bar, Surfin bar and the La Plaza bar. All the staff at the Reception we’re very friendly and polite and helpful. Enjoy

Room tip: We had room 2405 not the quietest but perfect for all amenities.
