Had a very good first week felt invisible at times if you tip you get service. 2nd week spring breakers arrived 600 of them mostly under 21 not old enough for alcohol at home but at riu bambu they had a ball! No one was looking out for them. They took over the hotel and the bar pool. Shots from 9am thru to oblivion . They were loud brash drunk falling into the pool banging their heads falling over and the staff still gave them more alcohol the animation team seemed to encourage them the security watched as they too drank and walked away this was so uncomfortable. We went with Thomson and reported it to the rep who said they had much right to enjoy the facilities as everyone else so uncomfortable to watch. In the end we got moved to the punta Cana palace which was very nice the day we left Bambu a spring breaker died jumping in the pool as he hit his head jumping into the pool in shallow water - so upsetting to hear the riu bambu should be utterly ashamed allowing this to get so out of hand when we were all complaining they should have acted sooner - awful place pay more and go elsewhere.

My wife and I were on a second honeymoon here. Staff extremely rude to us despite us being overly courteous to them (we are both retail managers). We told our rep but we were ignored completely. Won't be going back. Rule 1: if you piss customers off they speak with their feet. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I am also contacting First Choice to ensure this hotel is taken out of next years brochure

Waithers are good but other staff is disgusting. Bartenders don't care are you all inclusive or not they just looks for tips if you tip you can order something if not you wait 30 minutes. Also reception staff don't give us information for nothing... I ask for blanket and they say tomorrow xaxa funny they haven't blanket to give me... and I waiting 10 days but don't receive ... anyway... be careful with thomson offers r very expensive. If you look online is cheapest. Thomson is double price. Animations every day 5 times a day do same things. Every day same same same this is stupid. Pool was dirty and drinks was like poison...5 days they haven't got cucumber and 3 days tomato so if you want normal salad good luck! only beach and food was very good but they are just little part of the holiday. I never back in Riu bambu and I told on my friends never go in riu bambu... very very poor service and bad staff

The Bambu is a basic resort nothing to fancy. The food is mediocre. There are some things that are better than others. The staff is Amazing, extremely helpful. If you want a more luxurious resort stay next door at the Riu Macao. When at the Bambu a large group of college spring breakers showed up and were extremely noisy. When I went to talk to the staff he gave me a couple different options to change rooms, and then said let me talk to the manager, they then moved us to the Macao, the gal at the desk greeted us with Congratulations!!!! We soon found out why the food there was 10X better and the amenities also. The Bambu is your good savings/deal resort if you want to save a buck. The beaches are some of the best we seen on the strip through that area. Lots of beach chairs, clean pools. Again the staff was Amazing. The rooms are basic but very clean.

Room Tip: Ask if any large college spring break groups will be there when you are and ask not to be by them. T...

Visited the Bambu last year in April. Had a great time. I had one of the pickiest eaters ever with me and he had no problem with the food. The food changed each day at the buffet. The rooms were basic but clean. Great, friendly service and good drinks. Fun activities near the pool bar each day and activities on the beach as well. Evening beach party on the weekend. The only down side would be that the evening entertainment and lively bar shuts down by midnight but there is a sports bar open all night as well as a disco on Caribbean street which is part of the RIU complex so access is included. Overall, it was a great vacation and I would return! Although, it's rated as a 5* online, it's not a luxury 5*. It's a basic 5*. As long as you have the proper expectations going into it, then you'll be fine. As a travel agent, I book many resorts every day so feel free to ask questions! :)

Room Tip: If you want a renovated room, they are at the back of the resort. I stayed in building 24 which is v...

We have just returned after 14 days at the bambu. The first 11 days were paradise, the beach is paradise and the pool area calm. Staff all very pleasant, eager to help with nothing being too much trouble. The room was clean, basic but spotless. Food was typical all inclusive, but a wide variety each setting. Did not rate the steak house a la carte, it was very rushed, we were in and out in under 20 mins! Fast food! The Asian, Italian and Mexican were far superior. We had a wonderful waiter called Edward, who looked after us, bringing our wine etc. we booked 3 trips - outback safari, dolphin experience and Caribbean cruise. Safari and dolphin experience were sensational, however the cruise was a day from hell. We were told that there would only be 32 people, with 16 per boat. Pinky, out thomson rep joined us for the day, he told us it would a party at sea! Well, our 'speed boat' broke down in the middle of the ocean, so we had to join the other boat party. This made 32 passengers plus at least 12 staff. We have since found out that the boat was only licensed for 32. There were not enough life jackets for all on board. There were 7 boat changes throughout the day, with 5 of these taking place at sea. Male passengers were helping passengers onto the next boat, at one stage 1 male passenger nearly fell between the boats and had to be pulled to safety, knocking his knee. 2 passengers had mobility problems, and at 1 stage the 1 lady sat on the boat and cried because she was in agony and scared. Pinky, the rep, did not seem overly bothered, in fact he slept most of the way back after the final boat change. The cost of this trip, sold as a millionaires lifestyle, is 169 US dollars. It was a day from hell. We, alongside 12 others made a complaint the following morning. As a gesture of good will, thomson refunded 169 dollars, but we found that once the reps had your money they didn't give a damn. There is a huge health and safety issue with this trip, and I believe it is an accident waiting to happen.

With just 3 days til home time all hell broke out! Spring break. Approx 400 us college students arrived at the hotel. From there on in, the hotel fell apart. Students simply took over, they were drunk by 11 am, vomiting in the hedges at the food restaurant. Night time, males could be found urinating in the same hedge whilst you are trying to eat. I watched a wheel chair being pushed into the swimming pool by a drunken youth. What of the security? Oh they could be found drinking shots with them! To be fair, if you complained to the management they would transfer you to one of the other hotels at no extra cost. They really did try to placate every body, but it was all out of control. Would we stay at bambu again? Yes, but not during spring break.

Room Tip: Ask for the refurbished rooms, we were told this nearing the end of the trip
