Just returned from a 5 day stay. While the facility is not as upscale as some we have stayed at on the Mayan Riviera, the staff are top rate. The food was average, but honestly you get what you pay for. The beach is beautiful and pool fantastic and for the price it is definitely worth it.

Was at the Riu Bambu October 4th - 14thth and have to say AGAIN that I had the most wonderful amazing time.
To all the skeptics who want to poo-poo this hotel, I am going to give it to you straight. Yes, there are better, posher, more extravagant hotels to go to. And if you feel that way, stay at the neighbouring Palaces of the Macao for that matter. However, this hotel is clean, the food is fabulous, the people the friendliest, funnest, nicest that you will ever meet.
This was our 3rd time to the Bambu this year and there have been a few improvements and upgrades. They have added a new pool off to the side of the kids play area. It's extremely quiet and faces the beach so the scenery is gorgeous. We alsonoticed alot more shrimp and other additions to the daily buffet. We went to the steak house one evening and found it to be top rate. The Italian was also very, very good.
Now, all that said--this is the most FUN you will ever have if that is what you are looking for. The workers at this resort are the sweetest and since we have gone so many times, you get to know them, enjoy them and this is what sets this resort apart from most.
The Entertainment Crew-Machine, Sunami, Obama, Don King, Peluca, Chris Rock, Romeo, Carmello, David, go above and beyond making you feel included and welcome as well as putting on tons of daily activities for you to join in and have some fun. The crazy games around the pool are laugh out loud hilarious and soooo enjoyable. The shows at night are good, they aren't Vegas and yes I have seen better, but seriously, you are going there for the shows?!
The buffet and restaurant staff too are attentive to your needs, will help to get you any request you want, and are also sooo enjoyable, nice and friendly. Franklin, Wilken, Issa, Elvin, we love how you all have a ready smile, decorated table ready for us, and good solid attentive service.
The pool bar staff--Victor, Pasquale, Georges, Miladys are too the same wonderful people. They will have your drink waiting for you. Expert staff.
The La Plaza bar staff are the BEST!!!-Junior, Tavares, Alexander, Miguel, Luis Miguel, Edward, Moises, Marino, Fabian and Fiona have all become our friends and they are a big part of why we return--not only to have a great time, but to catch up with them.
If you need still yet another drink--the Sports Bar is open 24/7 and Benjamin, Kelvin, and Augustine will look after your every need. You can watch whatever sport you want, and play a couple too.
All in all, it truly depends on what kind of holiday you are looking forward to, but if it is great value, decent rooms, good food, perfect beach steps away, friendliest and most helpful staff and FUN you are looking for--this is it!!!!!!!!

Booked this in March £5,500 for 4 adults only to find 2 weeks before departure we get an email to advise about small amount of building work we declined the free transfer to another hotel after asking people on here about it.When we arrived at the hotel we were given a compulsary upgrade to the Riu palace punta cana, thank god as it would of been like staying on a wimpey homes develoment site in the carribean, THOMSON SHOULD BE SUED FOR GROSSLY UNDERESTIMATING THE WORK, we counted at least 300 bedrooms being built.
If you have booked here I would definately request a transfer to a RIU PALACE hotel as these are a better standard of hotel compared to the club hotels.

I can only echo the views of previous travelers, in saying please think twice before you book. I am a Riu Diamond card holder and have stayed in many Riu's around the world. I even recomended them to all my family and friends, but after staying at the Bambu and having such a dreadful time I will not be doing so again.
I had my necklace stolen from my room, and yes I had hidden it away so who ever has taken it went serching through my belongings. Neadless to say the hotel didnt want to know and the Thompson reps where not much help. The bed lined was only changed twice in 2 week, we know this as the sheets on my mums bed was a foot to short for the bed leaving the matress exposed. We had to chase reception to get them changed.
We stayed at the Riu Bambu when the locals invaded and they acted like animal, infact animal act better! we witnessed all the carryons that have been mentioned before, the urinating contest in the pool, the being sick along the paths to the rooms etc. the hotel managment did not want to know. We spoke to the Thompson rep who said that this was not the first time it had happened, apparenctly letting in the locals is a regular thing. So be careful when you go.
I took my parents on this holiday for thier 40th wedding anniversary, and have never been so upset after a holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the building works taking place.

Just returned from from a 2 week stay at the Riu Bambu Hotel in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. Our stay was excellent and I CANNOT believe some of the reviews some eople have put on here. On arrival we were greeted exteremely politely (also given a welcome drink).

Food - This was great, no problems at all. There are MANY choices of dishes to choose from each day. After 10 days I will agree the food can be a little repetitive. However, overall the food quality was great. Out of the a la carte we only tried the chinese (have only ever had chinese food once before) and this was great also. We did not try the steak house therefore cannot comment on this.

Location/Room - Very clean and tidy, cleaned throughly everyday my maids. They work very hard and deserve tips! Location of the hotel is perfect as it is amongst the other RIU hotels (Naiboa and palaces). We visited the Naiboa and had lunch there which we had no problems with. We also had a walk through both the Macao and Bavaro which were very quite hotels, however still very nice. The beach is fantastic, it has seawood on the beach but not as much as bad as people on here are making it out to be. Beach does have a lot of eople on it but you will always find a spot.

Staff - ALL staff were very friendly, this is the guys from recepetion, cleaners, to bar staff. All very very helpful and friendly. Thompson Reps were Sonny and Martin, Sonny is great. Martin we dont have a lot to say about him as he was replaced by another rep called Amos who was also great. Both Sonny and Amos are great guys!! They do an excellent job!

Animation Team and Entertainment- These guys are incredible dancers! They do their best to put on the entertainment. The entertainment was not excellent however some nights were good. The shows do not start until 9:30pm apx (sometimes later). These guys will try to get you involved so dont take offence when they want to 'high five' you, they are only trying to be friendly!! They of course will try and speak english however their english is poor so have some respect for them!

Things to do - Within the resort you have carribean street where there are a few shop which you can purchase small gifts from. There is also an disco/bar on resort, we never went to this however never heard any bad reviews. Outside of the hotel, there is a shopping centre called Palma Real which pretty much has your designer shops. A free bus from the hotel takes you there and brings you back, its about 10 mins drive away from the hotel. Its a morning/afternoon out if you want do do something different.

Excursions - Would highly recommend Saona Island, this was an amazing trip! Also try treasures of the sea. Would not recommend adventure boogies.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We had a great time and would definately consider going back. Before we left the UK we were advised that there was some building/maintenance work going on at the hotel. This work DID NOT disturb our stay at all. Some of you people out there who made out like the hotel was going through a demolition need to get a life. Its called 'building work'. Now, there was also work taking place at the bar, the bar was having a drinks bar area built which was literally two marble shelfs for people to put drinks on. The work went on for 2 days max, all you heard was drilling but again typical brits had to complain and made a big fuss. I dont understand why people were stood taking pictures to complain. One couple in particular on this holiday complained about EVERYTHING! They complained about the building work (even though we were made aware), food, swimming pools (yet there were 3 pools plus the sea), staff and locals and lots more. They did not want to interact with anyone, would use one pool only and were selfish to put there belongings onto four sun loungers when there were only two of them! The moaned greatly about food yet scoffed their faces at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Complained about the additional bar area being built yet they used it to put their drinks on as soon as it was built. This couple should stick to staying at home as they were clearly very racist and dont understand anything about other cultures. The locals did visit this hotel as it was their bank holiday, the hotel did get very busy, dinner time, pool and bars did get very busy. However, this did not bother as we like to interact and have interest in other cultures. Not sure why brits complained as I'm sure you have all been to bars/restaurants which get packed!

The weather was great for each day we were out there. Take lots of sun cream as it is VERY hot. Definately receommend to couples and families.

we booked the hotel directly on hotel website and had a great deal,138$ a night. This hotel however is not worth paying more. It's a 3 star and not a five star like riu says.
The goods:-greats pools,beach,activities,show.
-mostly europeans and south americans(no americans jersey shore type yelling youuu!! all the time and men couple).
-very friendly staff.

The bad: - The food is not great at all,not varied.
-wine and beers were like tainted water
-the rooms needs to be renovated.
conclusion:all those those hotels state themselves as 5 stars but beware and take your time doing researh before booking. For me the price was right, but not worth more.

Just returned from the Riu Bambu Hotel in Punta Cana Dominican Republic, We were on an A I package thru First Choice/Thomson, other peoples reviews have slated this hotel, and it makes me wonder if they to the same hotel. The staff were wonderful, from Maintanance to cleaners to waiters/barstaff, we could find fault in anyone always smiling and ready to talk to you, and No not just after a Tip ??? The food was of a very good standard always something to eat even for the Fussiest of eaters. yes the menu's were repeated but enough choice's for all. Right on the Beach Palm tree's silver sand and turquoise Sea and totally enough Sunbeds for all,any time of the day, what more can you ask for, Rooms cleaned every day and Mini Bar, Beer, soft drinks & Optic's yes optics ( full size bottles ) topped up every 2nd. day and plenty of Bottled Water, on the negative side, we found there was no where to walk out in the evenings the Local Caribbean street 5 mins walk away was just local little shops selling tourist nicknacks but was not always open and no little bars or restaurants at all. to sit and watch the world go by but having said that its what you personally want out of you Holiday, but this did not stop our enjoyment of our holiday, there was plenty of the annination team to keep you from getting bored if you like joining in the fun & games. and yes as the title said we will return

Room Tip: Allocated room was fine, all blocks are low rise ground & 1st. floor so no problems there, some...
