The resort itself is large and well kept even though it is showing some age. The service, for us, helped to bring our rating from a 3 up to a 4, however. We tried a couple of the restaurants (the Italian one and Chopin). For the sake of brevity we will just say we went to La Hispaniola the remainder of our week's stay. We were able to get warm dinners and decent breakfasts there. That is also where we experienced the best service.

The great: Service - Some staff members were very good and they tried hard here to entertain people. Nightly shows and the house band were both very good. The beach.

The good: Just about everything else.

What we weren't impressed with: The exclusivity for the preferred club - There were times when we received less than stellar service precisely because we did not upgrade. In other words we were passed by or overlooked once in a while in favor of other preferred guests. We noticed the upgrade gets you a fancier chair on your balcony and what appeared to be their nicest section of beach, but other than that, aside from access to some premium liquor, the guests we spoke to didn't find much difference. If money is not important you might want to upgrade, but we were glad we did not.

The gym: Yes they have one and it is possible to get at least part of your daily exercise routine in if you have one but don't expect much.

The size: We don't mind walking some and we are in decent shape but this was a learning experience for us that made us realize we prefer, for all inclusive anyway, a smaller more convenient layout. We did not really hate using the transportation to get around, but it did seem like we spent a lot of time either walking, riding or waiting for a ride.

Keep in mind we compared The Bavaro Princess with The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe from last year. If you get a great price at The princess you might enjoy it, otherwise, we recommend the latter. We thought is was nicer, prettier, premium drinks were included, rooms nicer, pools nicer, beach nicer, location better, food better, entertainment as good or better. They have a casino as well and miniature golf nearby if you like, and it is smaller and much more convenient with a great gym.

We went early 2013, and this was our first time travelling to the caribbean or anywhere exotic outside of Canada. I agree with the last reviewer that posted before me about first landing at the airport. We didn't get customs slips from our airline either (they ran out), so when we got to the airport, it was really confusing at first, and there was alot of people / travellers, and we weren't really given good instructions on what to do. Luckily the forms were not only in Spanish, they were also in English and I believe Russian. As a travel tip, I would highly recommend bringing a few pens in your carry-on. We were a bit lost on where to go from here, but eventually we just followed the crowd and made our way to our travel rep who directed us from there.
My first impressions of the resort was that it was a really nice place. We arrived there around noon, and went straight to the lobby. Check-in staff were great, very friendly, helpful, and spoke good english, although they gave out alot of information and threw it at you really fast. They gave us some booklets and brochures that explained all of what the resort had to offer, a map of the resort is in booklet, restaurant and a-la-carte hours of operation, etc. It turned out our room wasn't going to be ready for another 3 hours, which apparently is standard since rooms are only available at 3pm, so our luggage was left near the front of the lobby where all the buses came and kind of freaked us out at first since we didn’t want to leave our stuff unattended, but there were some staff that insisted they would watch our stuff for us. So we just started our day off and had some drinks in the lobby while we still had our luggage in sight (since we’re the paranoid type ).
The drinks were decently good, the beer was decent only saw 1 brand though (Presidente) but it was on tap and was decently smooth, I’m mostly a beer drinker, but I ended up trying all the drinks on the menu . Some of the specialty drinks tasted fantastic! I especially liked the coco loco! Honestly, they could have been serving us cheap booze/liquor, but after you’ve been drinking all day long, you don’t really care what the quality of the liquor is since it’s doing its job.
Another good tip, is to bring your own (large) travel mug so that while you’re on the beach, you don’t have to go to the bar a million times for refills.
When we finally got to our room, the initial impression was that it was very nice, we had the ‘bungalow suite”, and were only 3 minutes away from the beach which was super convenient. The room was very nice, everything was high-end and marble, granite, etc, large bed, had a Jacuzzi, it was very fancy. The only disappointment I had was with the fridge – it only had 2 7 Ups, 2 Cokes, 2 waters, and 2 beers, and they stocked this only once a day. This turned out to not matter, since you could just walk to any bar and get unlimited supply of whatever you wanted (incl. bottled water) anyways.
The beach was just amazing, maybe because this was our first time finally seeing the beautiful clear water and white sand. It’s just like you see in all the pictures, but even better with your own eyes! The weather was perfect, not a single cloud in the sky and the sand was cool on the feet, even when the sun was beaming at 30+ degrees (celcius). Water was beautiful, clean (didn’t have much seaweed or anything), and surprisingly for a family resort, to our delight, there weren’t many noisy kids around. Not sure if it was the time of year, but whenever we went to the beach, we never had a problem finding beach chairs, or cabanas. We always managed to find a good spot didn’t matter what time of day we went. We were also pleasantly surprised that you could actually rest on the beach, since the loudest thing you hear are the soothing sounds of the waves. Just thinking of this makes me want to go back already.
The shows were alright, but get somewhat tiresome and repetitive after a while (I’ve heard it’s like this for most places though). As for night scene, there’s not really much of a club / disco that people actually go to. For the most part, we ended up dancing in the main area where the shows were. The “animation” team were great, they were really fun and really got you into having a good time and would teach you how to dance if they thought you needed help 
As for the food, the general buffets were alright, but kind of bland. We got sick of the general buffets after the 3rd/4th day, but the a-la-cartes were awesome! They were like night and day compared to the general buffet, and I highly recommend trying them all out! My top 3 a-la-cartes were El Gaucho (steakhouse), El Pascador (Italian), and I can’t remember the Chinese restaurant name, but that was my other favorite ones too. If you’re a steak fan, don’t pass on the steakhouse, and get the T-bone, you won’t regret it!
Like the other reviewer, I had generally the same feeling about the people and safety as well. Once again, maybe it’s because we’re a paranoid bunch, it’s not that we didn’t feel safe when we were there, but we definitely had some sense of sketchiness when it came to being outside of the resort. Some of the people and staff were not as friendly, but then some were really friendly, so it’s hard to say. I mean, it still is a third world country after all.
Overall, I would say this resort was definitely a great first time experience.
The food generally is kind of boring, but the a-la-cartes make up for it and are awesome!
The beach is very clean and the overall resort is very well kept and clean, and while on the resort grounds feel very safe. I’m not sure if this is truly a 5-star resort since this is our first trip, there was some things that we felt could have been better, but overall I feel it’s up there in the scale of things (with all things considered). The staff seems to work very hard in pleasing their guests and are grateful especially when you leave them tips. I would definitely go back to the DR, but would definitely try a different resort, not because this was bad place, but just to try a different experience.
I would definitely recommend this place for someone looking for a really nice and peaceful place to relax, with some delicious fine dining. Although if you’re looking for a place to club / party, not sure if this is the ideal place. Still, there’s a lot and fun to be had, you just have to go out and look for it. And for paranoid newbie folks like us, I think this experience says alot since now I believe we are now bit by the travelling bug..
If I were to give this resort a score, I would give this an 8.5 out of 10.
Hope this review helps.

Went Nov 24 - Dec 1/12 for one week. Once we landed in Punta Cana, I found the airport crowded and somewhat disorganized. Since travellers were from all over the world, some airlines did not give the passengers the Customs slips to fill out before hand. There were people everywhere and it was hard to know if you were in the right line to go through to pay your landing tax.
Once at the resort, first room (was in the hotel part, not bungalows. They wanted $15/pp per day to upgrade or if you wanted platinum, it was even more) had a strong odor of mildew. The room was nicely laid out, but the odour was quite a turn off. We decided to stick it out for the night to see if I could adjust to it. That night it rained and water began leaking from the ceiling. Went to the front desk and had the room changed. The second room smelled much better and it was close to the stairwell as well. The bed was extremely hard - a bit too much for my liking.
The beach is fantastic - soft white sand. There were plenty of chairs and a couple of cabanas on the beach. You could parasail for an additional price. Only complaint was the showers didn't have enough water pressure to wash your feet.
To get your beach towel you went to spot near the bar pool by the ocean. There's no sign to direct you to the spot, you had to ask someone.
The food was good overall. Never went to the ala cartes. The buffet had a different theme each night and it kept it interesting. I found the buger shack by the platinum club made great burgers.
I found if you weren't a platinum customer, you felt like second class. However, the 'upper' customers were to get better liquor, accommodations, own beach section, etc. but in reality, they scammed these people. The liquor these people got were not of premium quality. Actually, I found they used cheap booze for a 5 star resort and was sick on our 5th day. Not sure what happened but we were drinking the same thing and we were both ill for 24hrs. That put a damper on our last 2 days.
Went shopping at some mall (which was lame) and was overpriced. The best deal was at the grocery store to buy liquor & coffee.
I didn't feel as safe in the D.R. as I do in Cuba. I'm not sure what it is, but I found the people not quite as friendly as the Cubans. Some of the service staff don't even try to speak English. They have vendors there and a travel club that constantly pestered you to join the club.
Was not happy with our Sunwing rep who promised to show us a 5 Diamond resort. That was a waste of 2 hours. They wisked us to this 4 star resort for breakfast (it was not the greatest) to try and sell us their travel club.
BEWARE of these people both at the resort and your travel rep.
Will admit, the grounds were taken care of and there was a train/tram that went around the resort to shuttle people around. The pool by the hotel was relaxing and not very noisey so it was perfect for reading or snoozing.
Overall, it was an okay resort.

Room Tip: Hotel was ok - make sure theres no leaks in ceiling

We just got back from a week at the Bavaro Princess in Punta Cana .The place was big and beautiful. We had a beautiful clean room that was only a five minute walk to the pool and beach. The beach was so big with lots of lounge chairs and also the same at the pools. The buffet was very good, There was something for everyone. We ate at several restaurants and they were also very good and the service was great. They have some shops there but everything was very expensive,If you want to take some souveniers home go up to the BAVARO shopping plaza right outside the resort. It's only a 3 minute walk but be prepared to bargain if you want a good deal.We also had a concierge named Carlos through APPLE VACATIONS.He was fantastic. He found us everyday to check to see if everything was alright and if we needed anything he took care of it for us.So you won't be disappointed if you go there. We would definetly go backj.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the pool and beach are more convenient

We returned from DR on March 2. We had a group of 8. The beaches are beautiful, but the Bavaro Princess Beach, was by far the nicest. Other areas were more weedy and not as large. We loved our hotel rep in charge of apple guests, Carlos. He helped us every way possible. The staff, restaurants, and food were all FINE, don't believe those bad reviews.

Room Tip: bungalo suites are the best

The Apple rep. Carlos was the BEST! He made our trip memorable with his excellent service. Also,Albert P.,one of the wait staff, went over and above to make our experience a great one. Room in Bldg.35 was one of the best we have ever been in at any resort. As for the food, it was good but people should not be expecting it to be of the same quality as in your home country.Food should not be #1 reason for taking vacation in Punta Cana.

First of all I would like to thank Carlos, our rep for all the tlc he gave us while we were there. As for the hotel, the service was outstanding. From the housekeeping to the the wait staff. Everyone was super. The beach was the best beach I have ever been on. It was clean and was large enough without feeling crowded. The food was good. Good variety of food at the al la carte restaurants and buffets. Bartenders were prompt and friendly. Overall I would recommend this facility. Awesome!

Room Tip: The outback safari was a fun adventure, if you want to see the real dominican. Not alot of people h...
