“Another great vacation”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Last spring my wife and I went back to this resort as we have been so happy there, it was our fourth time. I can't say enough about how beautiful the resort is, the staff are so friendly and helpful and there is such a wide variety of great food to choose from. Can't wait to go back for March break!!!

Room Tip: Close to the beach is the best

My husband and I spent a week at this resort last week, New years week. We went with Sunwing Tours and the only good things about this place was Anairis, one of the girls at the Kids Club, the beach and the weather !! It may have been because it was very high season and the hotel was full or just bad luck and high expectations, but what ever, the experience was not good ! Both my husband and I have traveled and travel a lot for business and pleasure and we definitely know a bad serviced hotel when we see one and this one is bad !

Take out the Bávaro Princess Hotel from your list, there is NO way that hotel is a 5* Hotel...nooooo way !!! It was just baaaaaad, run down, very badly managed, staff mostly pretty unfriendly and plain RUDE at times, the attitude of basically all the staff was absolutely terrible. I have personally NEVER been treated so badly in a hotel, not in a 4* and definitely not in a 5* category like this one was supposed to be !! We got treated like cattle at times, really bad food at the restaurants, although not a bad buffet...seen much better though, but in comparison to the rest of the restaurants it had, that were a joke (at the Gaucho Argentinian restaurant...ha, ha, I say to that...they had, for example, Argentinian chorizo on the menu, yum, you would think, but in the end they ended up bringing over a frankfurter hot dog sausage which they called chorizo !....we couldn't believe it and had to take a photograph of it....a bloody joke !!), it wasn't bad and in the end, we ended up having dinner at the buffet restaurant most nights and most of our breakfasts and so did everyone else, so it was extremely packed at times ! The cleaning ladies would shout....and I mean SHOUT, from one end to another while they were cleaning the rooms, across the gardens eveeeeery day and everywhere, it sometimes felt like you were at a street market with the staff shouting at each other, so good-bye to a good siesta in your room !! The Kids Club had most of poles that were supposed to make a fence around the outside of the club missing, that meant kids could just run out or wonder off by themselves or even worse, unwanted strangers could just stroll in freely from the "public" beach and take a kid or do anything else ! Most of last week, the New Years week, a very busy week with kids, they only had one member of staff for all the Kids Club, I also have to mention once again that Anairis, the girl that handled the club by herself most of the week, was the best aspect of the Hotel !! The second person that worked in the Club, the Club is only staffed by 2 girls, was off for 3 days, on the week before the 6th of January...couldn't this girl have taken her 3 days off after the 6th of Jan. ??!!!...very badly managed !!

So, this resort, definitely a no, NO....aaaaaaaand it is listed as a 5* Hotel...ha, ha, ha, there is no way on this planet that that hotel deserves 5*...if that's a 5* on the island, then I hate to think what a 4* is like....terrible hotel and staff !! That is a NEVER again hotel, never again to a Princess chain hotel !! It was just really bad for what is expected from a 5*...oh yes, I nearly forgot, the pestering of the VIP promotion Time Share program was near to harassment, it was really terrible, you couldn't go anywhere without being bothered by these parasites if you said no to them !....sorry, that's the only way I can describe these staff members !! Really bad experience of a hotel !!

The Bavaro Princess was a lovely resort. I was impressed with how well maintained it was. Extremely clean and lush. The people were friendly and did their best to communicate with you. It is a large resort and if you stay in a junior suite (like we did) you have quite the walk to the beach and a la carte restaurants however we loved that. It was so peaceful walking through their eco park. They have regular trams that you could hop on so not to worry about having to walk if you don't want to. The restaurants were very good. Our favourite was the steakhouse. The filet mignon was to die for. The buffet for breakfast was great with ample selection. The beach was wonderful. You could walk for hours either way. You never had a problem finding chairs no matter what time of day you hit the beach. The same goes for the pool areas. The evening entertainment was very good. We went on a half day excursion - the Caribbean Festival. We swam with sharks and touched sting rays and snorkeled. Was good fun. Our room was great. Although we did try to pursuade Danica ($20) to see if she could get us a room closer to the beach when we checked in - that was to no avail and she kept the $20. :( As far as the best service we received - I would have to say it was Raynaldo. He was exceptional, polite and we tried to seek him out wherever he was working for our meals. Overall our stay was great and we would recommend it to anyone. Ola!

Room Tip: Our junior suite was large and we had great sleeps - the bed was very comfortable and the maid servi...

This resort was a terrible disappointment for my husband and me. We really are not picky people and don't often write reviews, but I just had to share our experience so nobody else has the misfortune of wasting their money at this resort! We traveled to the DR as a vacation to escape winter weather December 16-23, 2012. Our ceiling leaked on the first night and we had to convince the front desk over the phone in Spanish (our first language is English) to move us to a different room, which also leaked into my suitcase later that week when it rained. The food quality was poor (undercooked fish, freezer burn, bland, etc.) in the restaurants as well as the buffet. The beach is NOT private, so solicitors for excursions and vendors abound. While the language barrier was not an issue for us, we saw many other guests struggling to communicate since the staff only speak Spanish and almost all refuse or do not know how to speak English or any other language. Some of the staff were actually outright rude, one in particular calling my husband a swear word when he refused to "grab a box" for him "so security wouldn't see him" as we lounged by the pool. Creepy. These are just a few of the things we experienced during our weeklong stay. My husband wrote a more detailed review here: http://jintus.blogspot.com/2013/01/vacation-fail-bavaro-princess-resort-in.html

Positive points about the resort :
1) big rooms- updated and efficient and clean and good air conditioning
2) grounds- beautifully landscaped/lush
3) beautiful beaches
4) the food at the private restaurants were good

Negative points about the resort :
1) dismal and dark lobby
2) fitness/gym facility- two treadmills (only one was working), one elliptical machine, one stationary bike for 1100 guests....not adequate.
In addition, the gym facility itself was old, musty and depressing.
The towels that they also gave out at the gym were dirty and frayed
The guy who worked there was quite unpleasant.
3) Aside from the odd person, most of the staff were quite unfriendly and almost
seemed resentful.
I completely understand that the staff are probably grossly underpaid, but it still doesn't help when these are the people who are working there and around you all of the time and you are on a vacation..............It is a hospitality business after all.
4) The food at the buffet was fair.
5) very little staff who spoke English.
In the end, I wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room closest to the beach as possible........otherwise you'll be waiting a long tim...
