“Great Vacation!”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

My husband & I had a great time at the Paradisus in Punta Cana. We were pleased with the food & boy was there allot of food! We were fortunate to have good weather & were able to relax by the beach or pool almost every day. They had entertainment every night which was great.

Although we did not upgrade to Royal or Butler service, our Concierge Marino was excellent (I honestly don't think having Royal or Butler service would have made our vacation much different.) Marino made sure we had a reservation for dinner each night & was very accommodating when we need to change restaurants & reservation times. We ate a different place each evening. (we were there for 6 nights) Whenever Marino saw us walking around, he knew our names & would always greet us with a big smile.

At checkout, Misael C made it very easy & painless & more importantly quick. I would recommend the Paradisus for couples, families, & groups.

Booked through American Express for 10 days. Stayed from 10/31 to 11/10.

We didn't have much of an option about choosing the actual resort because we were attending a friend's wedding here. It turns out the bride and groom did their research!
We had an ocean front royal service suite and we were literally the first building on the beach in a rather large complex.
We had no issues with checking-in and received a tour from our butler. No issues with sales pitches or timeshare hang ups.
Our room was of a very good size and the location was great! You could see the ocean from our balcony. He showers are made for two, which is good for a couples trip. The room has evidence of water damage in it, but that did not distract from our experience. Everything in our room worked, except the electric switches were finicky. The way they were wired did not allow for easy operation, if you wanted to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, the Bedroom lights were apt to come on. This was the most negative issue with the room. The other negative was the fact that you could hear the other guests outside your room very easily even if they were just speaking normally but in our case they were loud. However, the no kids rule in royal service was great!

The food was very good, but not great. Certainly what I would expect if not better from an all inclusive. The best meals we had were at the royal service only restaurant, LA Palapa. They serve very good liquor for royal service guests, and their pours are heavy! Beware of the Dominican Rum!! It can sneak up on you!

Royal service guests get a private section of the beach as well as a private pool with a nice pool bar. The beach was kept very well and when we took a walk on the beach and observed other resort beachfronts, there was a marked difference in upkeep and we even seem to have the better beach location overall. The pool was also nicely kept and maintained.

The grounds were fantastically maintained as well. It was truly a beautiful resort and it showed how hard they worked to maintain a wonderful tropical environment.

The staff were phenomenal. They were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It definitely paid off in spades to be in Royal Service. With Royal Service comes a personal butler which was just great to have. Our butler, Argenis was so so helpful and kind and friendly and funny! Argenis helped us with anything we needed, even so far as going to the pharmacy when my girlfriend didn't feel to well after a little too much sun! Needless to say we were very happy with the level of service we received and if we returned would only stay in Royal Service. The extra expense is beyond worth it.

Some tips:
- the resort is large, so plan on walking. We walked to everything instead of the tram, everything is within a 10-15 min walk. No big deal for us.

- the specialty restaurants get filled quickly, so get your reservations early and have a backup plan. We got stuck at restaurants with reservations and were asked to wait, we just left and tried other restaurants until we got in one. The grille had the longest waits....

- the offseason made the resort relatively quiet, but there were some rainstorms so look out!

Negatives:

- the $1500 resort credit I got to sweeten the deal had very little usable credits, everything required me to spend money. Don't factor this into your purchasing decision.

- choose your excursions wisely. We chose to stay at the resort after a bad excursion through Amstar.

- there is a 100% to 150% markup on items not included. Moët and Chandon champagne was $140 there, where it is $49 in the US. Just watch what you get that is not included. This is probably due to my inexperience in all inclusive resorts more than anything!

Room Tip: Get ROYAL SERVICE! Ocean front units are great, as it reduces your walk time.

Dear Connor,

We would like to thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We glad to read that you enjoyed our facilities and our great location.
As you mentioned the electric switches are manage from a master switch however, the lights can be turned off individually and only leave ON the ones of your choice, that way through the master switch will only turn on and those chosen by you.
We are happy we have the opportunity to host you on our Royal Service; it is a great experience for adults only and a personalized service.

We stayed at the Paradisus Punta Cana for one week in early November. We chose this hotel because of the golf package; shuttle and green fees includes - cart was $50 day per person.
Pros
The grounds are beautiful and well kept. We got considerable rain one day and the maintenance personnel worked furiously to remove the puddles in the main areas.
The Gabby Beach Restaurant (buffet) and as well as the à la carte restaurants were all very good. The quality of the food was excellent. I found the portions sizes to be just right but my husband thought they were a little small. So, on occasion he'd ask for seconds and was served with a smile.
The beach and pool areas were very clean and there were always chairs available.

Room for Improvement (literally)
Check in is at 3:00. However, when we arrived our room was not ready. We were told to go have lunch and come back. We were travelling with another couple and requested rooms near each other if possible. Our room was not acceptable. The other couple fared much better.
Our room smelled very musty and moldy. The hot water coming from the shower was brown from rusty pipes probably due to lack of use and dire need of replacement. Once the toilet was flushed, the tank kept 'refilling' endlessly. The drawers in the wardrobe were stuck and some were falling apart. Needless to say we asked for another room. We spent the next few hours repacking and looking at other a couple of other rooms and had to rush to make our dinner reservation. Not a great way to start a vacation. No mention of an upgrade or compensation until we asked and even then we still hadn't received anything until we followed up the day before departure - a little disappointing considering it's rated a 5 star hotel.
The in-room mini fridges had water, fruit juice, cola and beer. They were not restocked everyday as advertised but we put in a request at the front desk the requested items were delivered within the half-hour.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay here notwithstanding the issues with the room.

Room Tip: I've never had to do a room inspection before unpacking before but my experience here has taught...

So very happy to have stayed here Nov 9-16. Paradisus is incredibly beautiful with a warm and relaxing vibe. We were welcomed by the gracious and very efficient Mercedes at the front desk. At first the size of Paradisus was intimidating but after the first day we found the shortcuts to get around by foot. I like to walk and there is natural beauty all around but the trolleys are there when you need/prefer to ride. Paradisus is perfectly situated on a gorgeous stretch of beach and we were lucky to have had bright sunshine every day. Our room was well appointed, clean and very comfortable. Everyone at Paradisus was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see us each day. Massiel and Edrey are a dynamic duo full of energy. I learned Merengue & Bachata from the class they taught and danced every night with the wonderful and very patient Alexander, Jose, Juan and Super Mario. Francis, the special activities director, did a great job with the nightly shows and got the crowd dancing afterwards. All of the meals at each of the restaurants were delicious and offered plenty of variety. Ciriaco made my friend's day with a fresh coconut right off one of the trees! The spa offered a very serene and lovely space for relaxing massages. Fantastic vacation! Two enthusiastic thumbs up! Karyn from Brooklyn, NY

Room Tip: We needed two beds and a quieter setting and were nicely accommodated. The "All Inclusive"...

We just got back from our wedding at the Paradisus Punta Cana. It could not have been more perfect.

We were dealing with Miguelina as our wedding coordinator. She is absolutely fabulous. Words cannot express how seamlessly she took care of everything. From start to finish, she was amazing. She even met us in the lobby when we were checking out to say goodbye.

Check-in:

We flew Air Transat from Toronto, Ontario and arrived at the PPC around 9:30pm on Saturday night. We came with 80 people, so this did take a while. As I read on this site earlier, we were upgraded to Royal Service. I knew to look for a sign with our names on it, then we would know if we received Royal Service and to go to a different check-in. I didn't see this sign (it is RIGHT at the front by the bell boys) so we waited in line only to be whisked away to another location to be checked-in. I didn't mind, but my husband was a little tired.

** The only problem we had the entire week was this: the wedding coordinators had bracelets made for our group with our initials and wedding date. Turns out, another bride came earlier than us and the front desk gave their group our bracelets and vice versa. It was a little disappointing because the bracelets would have been a really nice keepsake. **

Rooms/Royal Service:

Everyone in our group had similar rooms. They are clean and modern and are always fully stocked with beer, water, juice, and pop. We really liked our room. Since we had Royal Service, we had a butler, named David. He was amazing. He always made sure we had everything we needed. He even dropped off 2 of our guests' Welcome Bags, since they couldn't make our Welcome Party. David always made our reservations at the a la carte for us, even if they were for 20 people the same day, he made it happen.

I absolutely loved having Royal Service, but if you are not upgraded to it, I am not sure I would pay to have it.

Food:

There are more restaurants at the resort then you can eat at. We tried lots of difference ones, but my favourite was the Royal Service restaurant on the beach. It had great steak, lobster, and lamb. Really nice atmosphere too.

Beach:

The beach is stunning. There are LOTS of chaises and beds for everyone. The towel hut is right there on the beach. There are always waiters walking around offering to get drinks for you. I would recommend laying near the Gabi Beach Bar because you have access to food, lovely beds, waiters, the bars, the pool, and the buffet. Walking along the beach by other resorts, you can clearly tell that the PPC is the nicest one.

Wedding:

Our wedding was perfect. I rented the bridal suite to get ready in. I would definitely recommend it to any bride.

We got married at sunset (which is 5pm) on the beach. We then had cocktails on the beach. I thought we would be taken away for pictures, but we stayed on the beach close to our guests, which was nice because we still got to enjoy the Cocktail Party.

We chose the Aqua package, but chose all linens to be ivory. It looked beautiful.

We then moved our reception to the pool. It was great because it ended up raining for a few minutes. The pool offers you shelter as there are some cabanas. We also chose to add lanterns hanging from the palm trees. It was stunning.

We chose the buffet grill and it was great. Food was actually delicious!

After the reception everyone went to the Red Lounge up at the main lobby. We danced and ordered bottles of whiskey (my husband's favourite) and a lot of people got cigars and just chilled out. It was the perfect end to the night!

We had the onsite DJ - RS Entertainment with an included MC. Our MC Jonathan was awesome. The DJ played all of the songs I had put in my form we filled out previously. They were amazing and everyone loved the music they played!

Photography:

I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT ARRECIFE PHOTOGRAPHY. We dealt with Taimir who arranged everything. She was honestly amazing. Such wonderful service and she was such a kind woman.

We got our photographer who was Joaquin. His pictures are the most stunning pictures. He was such an amazing photographer. He told us how to pose and really captured the look that I was going for. He also did our Trash the Dress shoot which also turned out beyond amazing.

Honestly, I would not even bother going with an outside photographer or wedding coordinator. The most memorable part of the wedding, for me, was our amazing experience with the in-house Coordinator and Photographer. Jessica (from the Miami office), Miguelina, Taimir, and Joaquin were such a pleasure to work with and made everything about our wedding perfect. Thank you to them!

Overall Experience:

Everyone in my party loved the resort. There was something for everyone. The only downside people found was with the reservations at the a la cartes. I would research these, then book them directly upon your arrival. However, they may still “lose” your reservation as even we got one lost on us, even with our butler booking it.

PPC was the nicest resort I ever stayed at. The staff were friendly (Danny Romero at the bar), Little Mike (down by the beach), and even the dealers at the casino! I am so happy we chose the PPC for our wedding.

Since we had 80 people, and stayed for the same amount of time as all of the other guests – I would strongly recommend staying another week. We didn’t get any romantic time for the two of us … but we are going back again for our one-year anniversary – that’s how much we liked the resort!!

Room Tip: Royal Service

I am surprised to learn about average reviews for this hotel. Before staying at Paradisus, we stayed at Bavaro Princess next door which is rated 5 stars, but cannot compare to Paradisus when it comes to food, rooms, and ambient. And then the highlight of this resort is the Gabi beach lounge. Amazing. No other resort has anything similar, but Paradisus. The beautiful setting of the Gabi club that is right on the sandy beach with nice music in the background (Sade, etc.), premium drinks and attentive service. It didn't feel as all inclusive vacation at all thanks to the beach club. After dinner, we would settle at the beach lounge with our friends. While the kids played in the sand or napped on the Bali beds, the grown-ups had a chat, sipped the drinks and just enjoyed the fresh air by the ocean. Overall, the whole concept of having this choice to forgo sitting it the lobby or watching shows, appealed to us.

Food: WOW, buffet was just yummy. Congrats to the chef and the team. Once you enter into the buffet (separated from dining area by automatic doors), you might get impression that is small and that the choice would be limited. However, the menu is about the quality and the the quantity. Freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices, tastefully decorated salads made with seafood, chicken, etc ..all in individual little bowls ready to be picked up, lots of seafood, fancy cheeses and delis, sushi, caviar, and of course crepes with nuttella, muffins, donuts, croissants with chocolate or butter. So much healthy choices as well. We never had to wait to be served a coffee in the morning or drink during the launch and dinner.
Beach: We were at Family Concierge beach during the day. Had lots of fun with our drink servants; Miker and Ramon Ramirez (I believe the names are correct). Amazing customer service there as well.
Overall, the resort is very well kept, clean, lush, green, ...beach is beautiful and all the stuff were amazing and deserve appreciation..from the security, to beach waiters and cleaners to buffet and Gabi club servants as well. Just anyone that we encountered had a smile and worked hard.
This resort is true five star all-inclusive. Will definitely go back.
