My wife and I only had 5 days and just wanted to relax on the beach. When we arrived after travelling most of the day, we were informed that the resort was overbooked and we were being sent to another resort for the first night. We were not happy as this would waste part of a day coming back over but went along and returned the next day. We actually were back by 9:30 and although our room wasn't ready until 3, they took care of our luggage and we spent the entire day on the beach. We were very impressed with the way they took care of us. They upgraded us to their VIP section, called "The Reserve", and believe me it was worth wasting a day away to get. The Resident Director Pablo personally met with us and explained there had been a huge screw up and they were overbooked by about 30 rooms. He said there was no excuse and apoligised profusely. Along with upgrading us to The Reserve he comped us a dinner in the only restaurant on site that you have to pay for, Fuego Gasto Bar and offered us free massages. He also booked us right there for al a carte dinner the other nights. Our room was large, with a double Jacuzzi tub, 2 sink bathroom with a large "rain" shower, a very comfy king size bed, a living room with a large flat creen TV, a sink and bar fridge, a great balcony with very comfy chairs. Our building had it's own concierge, and all the buildings in The Reserve shared a private pool that was fantastic and very large with double lounges with awnings, and large beds with thatched roofs. There was also a private check in area and a private restaurant that served a great buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We spent four days very relaxed around the pool and totally enjoyed our stay. We are glass half full people and just go with whatever comes along. It payed off in the long run and we would go back in a minute. The old saying says that S&$t happens, but if the staff goes above and beyond to make it right then all's good. We met dozens of people that experienced the same thing, and everyone was very impressed with the way it was handled. I've read some of the reviews about unfriendly staff, but I believe the problem is a language one. We have been to many all inclusive resorts and this one had far more employees that didn't speak english than any others. In some cases they didn't handle it well when you tried to speak to them. The ones that did speak english were very helpful.
The food was generally exceptional, with our meal in The Grill restaurant the only one we didn't enjoy. Our steaks were very overcooked and hard to eat. I would give every other meal a 4 1/2 to 5 star.

Room Tip: pay the extra for The Reserve.

This was our second time at the Paradisus Punta Cana. This time we stayed at the Reserve. We were there from 1/28/13 to 2/4/13.It was a great time.

Our room was very spacious and clean. My wife loved it. It was conveniently located, for us, a few steps away from the kids pool, which was the size of some resorts' adult pools. The cabanas were very luxurious with mattresses and pillows. We never had to fight for a space by either pool and the kids had a blast. The Kids Zone was great as well. They had a very attentive staff and plenty of activities.

We especially enjoyed the services of Emilio Valdez , who was the pool concierge at the Reserve. His English was great due to his spending 3 years in the states. He was incredibly attentive, is always smiling and has a great sense of humor. Ask him to do his bird whistle, the kids loved it. Mikey at the Reserve beach was excellent as well.

The food has improved since we were there last in 2011. With regard to the complaints in other reviews in reference to the restaurant reservations, apparently they are in the process of changing their system to iron out the kinks.

The Paradisus is an international resort so there will be some instances where English is not fully understood. If you go there realizing that and if you're patient, you'll have a nice time. The people are very friendly there and they love kids.

I must compliment Juan Nathanael Perez, the Guest Service Assistant Manager. He remembered us from our last trip and made himself available to us throughout our stay. It is a large resort and he seems to have figured out a way to be everywhere at once and to be cool while doing it. He met with us several times and even dined with us one night. He listened to our comments and answered all our questions. For a guy in his 20's I was impressed.

I also need to mention Christelle Luchini who is the Guest Experience Directrice. She also remembered us and made herself available to us as well. For a person at that level who is running a resort that large, it made us feel special. Christelle is another very warm and pleasant member of the Paradisus staff.

Overall, it was a very relaxing, fun and easy vacation for our family. We have traveled quite a bit, including Australia, Europe, Bora Bora, and much of the Caribbean. I would highly recommend the Paradisus Punta Cana.

My wife and I have vacationed at Paradisus Punta Cana for the past 15 years as members of the Melia Vacation Club. Over that period, we also vacationed in a variety of other Caribbean and Mexican destinations, and none compare to the incredible beauty of this resort.

Nice two or 3 story buildings or bungalows set is extraordinary tropical landscaping that includes ponds with water fountains (visited by an occasional egret). Sculptured swimming pools amid tropical flora, and a beach that is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. If you like taking long walks on the beach, this place has it. The extra services provided at the up-market "Reserve" and "Service Royale" areas of the resort will appeal to those who really want the ultimate vacation experience.

The people working at this resort are very helpful, friendly and polite. and willing to go the extra mile when needed. (We were faced with big problems when our return flight was cancelled due to a blizzard back home). Maikor Ramirez, Ramon Ramirez and Santo Polanco serving at the beach, pool and restaurants typify the high level of attention provided to us.

The restaurant and bar facilities are many, well-appointed and comfortable. We felt the food quality had declined somewhat during our visit one year ago so we wrote to management, providing specifics about our concern, and - voila! - food quality was back to snuff on our return visit this year.

We look forward to returning to "Paradisus" again next year!

The grounds are amazing. But.........I am currently here and have ordered room service four times for ice and rum. I have yet to receive anything. I purchased the royal service which you would expect better than average service. I have had poor service at best. I have contacted upper management personal. I have filed a verbal complaint. Yet nothing. A joke is how I would explain it. And servers are very non hospitable also. We are with a small group and the consensus is the same throughout.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your words and for bringing some points of matter that may need some attention to us.. This should NEVER happen, and I personally would have liked to apologize about it. If I was given the opportunity to rectify the situation, I would have been more than happy to do so.
Please feel free to contact me if you decide to come back and to provide us the opportunity we are asking for.

Sincerely,
Eduardo Perera
