The nightly shows here with Jefferson, Gasolina and Sexy Belly are a lot of fun. My only complaint is that Sanctuary town isn’t open during the day. It was fine because we had plenty to do I just wish it was open all day too. The shows they had when we were there were great. There was Dominican night with a great painter, a burlesque dance show and a circus show (no animals) which I liked. Just dancing and fun! Sexy Belly is a great host! Hilarious!

Sanctuary Town is designed like a small shops and restaurant village off the main Sanctuary Cap Cana resort. It is cute but felt pretty empty and underused every time we visited. Most of the individual "stores" or "restaurant" need a little something more to make them truly attractive. The "souvenir shop" offers what I would qualify as "crap" souvenirs. The kind of thing you would bring back to a small child. The owners should consider supplementing that with more exclusive local arts and crafts, considering the affluence of the clientele and the isolation of the resort. The jewellery store was nice and we did buy a little something (Tatiana was a great help). The "corner store" (food, souvenirs, sunscreen, etc.) was convenient and the staff was informative and friendly. The food and drink locations were generally empty and didn't have much to offer in terms of selection or places to sit, which didn't help. All in all, a cute concept that needs to be perfected.

The place is only open one day a week and it is not for shopping. It's used to host a Saturday event.

This is my second time to Punta Cana and this resort was amazing. Here are some of the things we considered important:
1. The architecture was amazing. All the buildings are decorated with a Spanish colonial decor. The hotel had a very low census due to the possibility of Dorian making land fall. We were upgraded upon arrival (see below), but we didn’t stay at “The Castle.”
2. We stayed in room 2611. This building is newly constructed and it shows. Everything is in great condition. The amenities included a digital dial in the shower and a Nespresso machine. The minibar had bottled water, soft drinks, and 4 beers. No other alcohol was stored in our room, but there were multiple bars around the vicinity. We ordered room service one morning. Coffee, pastries, and fresh fruit was delivered approximately 20 minutes after placing the order.
3. The pools were clean and not crowded. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the upper pools just to ourselves. The only drawback was that drink/foot service was sporadic at best. We enjoyed the solitude but we had to walk to the bar every time we needed a beverage.
4. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the beach. It’s very small relative to the size of the resort. The sand is white but has a “muddy” feeling thus creating an opaque color to the sea water. We were unable to see our toes even at a 1 ft depth. The sea weed didn’t help matters. The resort cleans the beach nonstop but Mother Nature was a little stubborn because of the turbulence created by Dorian?
5. The alcohol beverage choices were limited in our opinion. The only option for beer in the all inclusive package is Presidente. Corona, Coors Light, Heineken, etc are $5. Only lagers and no IPAs, stouts, blondes or microbrewery options. We had vodka (Sky, Absolute, and Smirnoff available. No Tito’s) and Whisky (Jack Daniels, Crown). Jim Beam, Jimador, and other choices were available, but any “top shelf” brand was also extra. Red wine was kept refrigerated and it was hit and miss as far as flavor. We didn’t try any white wines.
6. The food was like one would expect in the Dominican. Very bland flavors and not spicy. The restaurants do offer great choices and the quality was amazing. Chefs do a great job preparing all meals. The restaurant staff are all great. We love everyone that helped us, but Wander was our favorite. He was very professional and with an amazing attitude. Always happy and smiling.
7. Transportation from the airport was easy but I recommend you bargain BEFORE getting into a taxi. We paid $20 from the airport to the resort. The staff at the resort told us that the taxi fare to the airport was a fixed rate of $30? The taxi driver claimed that the bell boys at the resort demand $5 as their fee. I’m not sure if management is aware of such arrangement.
Overall we had a great experience. We didn’t give an excellent review mainly because of the limited drink choices and the beach.
