Good, friendly staff. Beautiful, well- kept resort. Many, large pools. Beach area well- maintained. Big rooms & bathrooms. LOVED the all-inclusive aspect. Lots of choices for eating. TIPS: 1.) Before you leave home, pay the $10 tariff tax online and print the receipt. Show it to the 1st immigration official you see at the airport and you'll be expedited through the long lines. 2.) Grab a taxi from the airport instead of waiting for a shuttle bus. It cost us $40 and we saved a lot of time. The same driver took us back to the airport- much better than waiting around for the shuttle bus. 3.) The check-in staff was slow. Be prepared. 4.) Rooms included free mini bar snacks, drinks and plenty of bottled water. 5.) Bring ear plugs. People slam the heavy room doors and the halls echo. 6..) Make your dinner reservations at the restaurants early on with guest services. Slots get filled up. You can always cancel. 7.) Bring plenty of $1's & $5 bills for tipping. The staff work long hours and are great. 8.) We brought walkie talkies and they came in handy since we didn't want roaming charges on our cell phones. 9.) Yes, there's seaweed in the water and on the beach, The staff at this resort really tried to control it. Other resorts I didn't see that happening.

This was the most relaxing, fabulous vacation we have ever had. My husband and I had never gone to an all inclusive or any kind of a resort and our stay here certainly set the standard. We have already booked for 2016! The grounds are meticulously kept, the staff are very attentive and efficient. All of the female staff were very sweet and went out of their way to be helpful and ensure that we enjoyed ourselves. The male drivers were more than willing to zip you around. Please tip them all.
The pools and the beach were immaculate.
The restaurants had more than enough different foods. Make sure to book your restaurants several weeks before you leave home - especially Don Pablo. There are always several chefs making food to order at the buffets. I would not expect to get Boston North end Italian food outside of Boston so don't expect it here and you won't be disappointed. The fruits are fabulous and so are many of the desserts. Try the different juices at breakfast.
We stayed in the farthest back section. Very quiet. Had the outdoor hot tub/ Jacuzzi to ourselves.
Chocolate' and his night time entertainment was fun. Its lovely to be able to sit outside in February with a breeze, no mosquitoes, drinks and no snow blower.
Book and pay for your shuttle ahead of time. Once you get on your shuttle, listen REALLY CAREFULLY to how to find your shuttle to get home and make sure you follow their instructions.
Pay for your entrance/departure tax ahead of time.

Things to bring: Lots of dollars for tips. We spent about $80 in 5 days.
Pack only in a carry on. Floatie for the pool, large insulated mug/container for coffee/drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat with brim, bathing suits, cover ups, very few outfits for male or females - my husband could have gotten away with 2 pairs of pants and 5 shirts - for me 2 bathing suits, 3 dresses, beach bag

Leave at home: extra clothes, extra towels they give you one whenever you need one, umbrella (they are in the rooms) cranky attitude.
If you are disappointed in anything here, you should just go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are probably quieter and newer.

This was our second time going to Ambar. We had such a great time the first time went. We decided to go back. Traveled with Air Transet. No issues from airport to airport and back. Have your paper work in order and its smooth sailing.
Just a couple minor issues, as a returnee I didn't get any different service than anyone else, even tho they gave us a gold wrist band. So not sure why they hand out gold bands, just give everyone the same one. We didn't even get the welcome package in the room(couple t-shirts and a bottle of rum). Was told to go to guest services, they would have them for us. Wasn't a game breaker, so didn't bother. Other issue was service a pool bar, took forever. even tried tipping, that didn't work. So I saved myself a lot of money.
The food. All the a-la-cartes were fantastic, from start to finish. the food and service was great. They got tipped at the four we went too. The buffets was pretty good too. We went to Ambar 1 breakfast the most, but also went to Ambar 2 breakfast and Rodizio Restaurant, which was nice with a view of the ocean. For lunches we went to the café along side the pool. lots of selection there as well. The food was always good wherever we went. no complaints.
We used Ambar 1 pool the most, but also ventured to Ambar 2 pool. just as nice. lots of seats at both anytime of day.
We went to the "city" once to see the circus, but that's it. we saw all the shows the first time. We stayed in our lobby for drinks and made some new friends to chat the night away, very relaxing.
Spent our mornings on the beach relaxing or playing beach volleyball. the seaweed was an issue, but not that much that it didn't stop us from entering the water and it was along the beach both ways, as we walked quite a was in both directions. Again lots loungers, but usually the first row at the ocean were saved every morning.
YES, we would go back again. Maybe next time we will find out why we get gold wrist bands

Room Tip: I think we were in Building 67, right in the middle aisle. doesn't matter tho. everything is close by at Ambar 1

This was our second trip to the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar property, and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the original Ambar, Building 67 which is as close to the beach as you can get! Ambar 2 looks great, seemed to have more of a party atmosphere, and Ambar 1 was quieter. If you were to compare a nightclub to a piano lounge, this would help you decide which section you would like to stay in.

There were so many staff that served us in a professional and reliable manner, that we were hard-pressed to acknowledge all of them. However, two standouts are Franklin who looked after the chairs at the Ambar Beach, and Fransisco who served us lunch at the Beach restaurant each day.

Rooms were clean and well-appointed with practically everything you might need - except washcloths. Turn down service in the evenings was a nice touch. Buffet had lots of selection, with a large fish and seafood section. Once again, we were impressed with the Don Pablo Gourmet a la carte restaurant, and the Brazilian steakhouse had good service and a large selection of meats.

Stores on the resort were expensive, rum same price as at home. No deals to be had here.

We would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Building 67 close to beach. Ambar 2 has AMAZING pool, small buffet.

All the staff are super attentive. We moved rooms into the 8 block as they're brand new rooms - much better. Make sure you tip the staff work super hard - book you wont regret it! Garden grill is the best resturant. The Wifi is okay (if you're in ambar you get 24 hours free each day)

Thanks!
