We are here for 1 day, it is the best holiday ever!!! I don't wanna go home anymore, marvelous!!!
They are all very kind, and we are coming back for sure! Everything is very nice, the pool, the room and most of all, the people who work there. The day we came here, they said to us, welcome home, and it feels like home!!

We stayed for 14 nights at this amazing hotel, and it was immaculate throughout.The room was surprisingly spacious including the bathroom and it was all rather luxurious! The gift big in our room upon arrival was a lovely gesture too.The maids did a fantastic job at keeping our room spotlessly clean and the towels delivered with chocolates each evening were very much appreciated! The minibar was also stocked daily including crisps!

The restaurants were all extremely good, especially the gourmet restaurant (where they serve the very best lobster ever!). The gym is available for the die-hards, though we decided to give it a miss! The pool was lovely, very large and the warmest we've ever experienced anywhere and the cocktails at the swim-up bar were great! Beach towels were available on demand, and there were no restrictions unlike some other hotels.

The beach was superb, with plenty of parasols and palm trees for shade. This hotel has a perfect setting for Weddings too, we saw several during our stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and a special "well done" to Franklin who takes care of the sunbeds on the beach and keeps everything clean and tidy! He worked extremely hard but was always cheerful and smiling, fabulous! :)

To summarise, excellent standard throughout, and would highly recommend this hotel.

Well, there is always one review, that does not completely rave about a stay, and alas this is one of them.

We consider ourselves pretty open-minded travellers, and have stayed in a couple of places in the most beautiful parts of the world, which most people would not stay. However, the views, the people and overall ambience, made up for the somewhat lacking accommodations, albeit they were clean and worry free.

We booked the Ambar, with friends, after considerable study on TA, and other website blogs.

Arriving a day early before our companions, we settled into the hotel lobby, at 1:00pm. We were informed that our room was not ready, which we fully expected, as in reading on TA, most rooms were not ready until the 3-4 time range. No worries, had a drink, had some lunch. It was raining so hard that we stayed put under cover.

The front desk receptionist, kept coming over and apologizing that our room was not ready. We were totally fine with that, and the fact she was doing her best. (Note to Ambar: her name was Anyela, and she deserves huge kudos, and several pats on the back) Always smiling.....

Approximately around 3:30, she presented us with our room package, apologized again. My wife opened the package and noticed the reservations for the Ala Carte restaurants where not enclosed. Anyela, took the package to a Guest Service person, and returned a few minutes later with reservations in the package. (more on that in a bit).

So with Bellman in the lead it was off to our ready room. Not.

We both agreed that stepping over a maintenance man laying prone in the doorway, trying to fix a problem with the whirlpool tub was kind of odd. The room had a strong odour of cigarette smoke (not that Caribbean musty smell), which was not a huge deal, but.....

We had asked for a room with a King size bed, which was there, and on the second floor, which was not. First floor, looking out onto palm trees, the garden and a pathway to the pool. Again not a huge deal.

As the rain had stopped, and the maintenance continued, we decided to stroll down, and have a look at the pool. On our return, the door was closed. Good sign, however are room keys did not work. The maintenance people were across the hall, and I asked him if he could open it, which he did. We unpacked, hung up our stuff (after trying to get extra hangers from the housekeepers in the hall).

We went down and had our keys re-done, came back to the room, and guess what? As they say in the airline industry, it was a no go. But good luck was upon us as the maintenance guy was still across the hall in the other room. We asked him again, he obliged, however now his key didn't work, so he swapped out batteries on another door, and replaced them in ours. It opened. I decided to check the whirlpool tub out, and found that it worked, however the plug did not.

I will now shorten maintenance guy to MG, as I am getting tired of typing it, and it will be used further.

So out to get MG, and he sends his assistant to look at the plug, which is broken. So out of the room for a drink, get our new keys again, and read the contents of our package.

Reservations for the Ala Carte, were all wrong. They were to be for 4 people, and now changed to 2, as well dates were changed. Now the dates, were not an issue, as some of the restaurants were closed on the dates we wanted them. (Funny we could book them from home). Oh well....

Back to the room, maintenance still there. We approaching 5:00pm. Asst MG says plug is fixed, turns on the water, and immediately the hand held shower spews water all over the floor.

Well at this point we are thinking this room is truly broken.

Both of us have worked in the Customer Service industry, and enough is enough. We were tired, hot, and just wanted to get on with the day.

We went downstairs and asked to speak to a Manager. We were asked what kind of Manager? Well, i guess the one that deals with broken rooms. Anyela had left for the day, so we were down an angel.

After 15 minutes or so, we were directed to the person that would help us, and there we met angel #2, by the name of Yaniri.

Yaniri listened to our story about the room, the reservations etc. We would have been happy to stay in that room had things been corrected prior to our arrival. Yaniri started by fixing our reservations, made a phone call, informing us the room above ours was available and escorted us to check it out. It was all good, so she proceeded to call the bellmen, from our suite phone, but it was not working. (uh-oh)

After a cell call, the bellman moved our stuff up for us. As Yaniri left, she promised to have to phone repaired in the morning. (which it was). Upon leaving she tried her key in the door, just incase, and well........................back to the lobby. It was now 6:00pm.

We went for dinner and later Yaniri found us and gave us our new keys.

Long story short, our stay in the new room, had us phoning daily about the toilet not flushing, at one point I had to turn off the water to prevent flooding. It was finally repaired correctly two days before we left.

The shower door kept scrapping on the tiles and would not close properly. It was fixed, but started up again the following day.

As for house keeping it was hit and miss. Somedays towels, somedays only hand towels, missing face clothes, bath mats...etc.

Ditto with stocking the mini bar. It was always exciting to see what they may or may not have placed in there.

Calls daily to the Express service gets a little tiring, but they always brought up the stuff we needed.

Oh, and in total we had ten room key changes. After a nice day on the beach, walking to the lobby got kinda silly.

It may sound like trivial stuff, but after 10 days,( we were there for 12), it becomes annoying and frustrating.

The rest was very good. Staff went out of there way to please you. The food was good. The landscaping, and cleanliness was excellent. The beach party, and pool events were fun. (hats off the Elvis..King of the Pool bar). Also hats off to Wiliam and Murphy in the Lobby bar.

We found the Ala Carte's we reserved were fine, however the Japanese chef at the show table used way too much salt and soy sauce in his preparation. We all found it to salty to eat. Our friend, who has been in the food business, approached the Chef and Manager, and gave her our feedback.

Very nice resort, unfortunately the "little" things took there toll on us.

Almost forgot, we were given a nice fruit basket on our second day there, which was a nice touch.

One more tip. Outback Adventures is a great way to see the surrounding country around Punta Cana. Well worth the day, very informative and fun.

Beach is beautiful (very private- nice distance btwn cabanas) - service is friendly and fantastic (even basic spanish isnt necessary but appreciated) - food was great (Ambar's Gourmet restaurant was the best)- - ambiance was nice (adults only! activities you could participate in- only if your interested- not the annoying hassle of being forced to) and the drinks were good.

Only complaint is the pool bar- for such a great pool there was very little customer acknowledgement on the part of the bartenders. Offering money/speaking spanish... nothing seemed to work and you found yourself making frustrated eye contact with 30 other thirsty people who were trying to do the same. Kind of a shame. . . however the beach is so gorgeous (and there is waiter service) that it didnt put too much of a damper on our overall experience.


Oh and the guys at the end of the beach offer an hour of snorkeling for a fraction of what hotel excursions offer (and with the luxury of not having to get on a bus) - they are safe and certainly give you a more personalized experience.

It has been 3 days since i am back from the resort and I can not stop promoting it to all my colleagues. We had such amazing and relaxing experience.

Hotel location and facilities are perfect. An eye for detail can be noticed in everything - on my boyfriends birthday the room was decorated with balloons and there was a lovely banner at the door.

Staff is incredibly well trained and so friendly. We were particularly impressed by the pool bartenders Elvis, Domingo and Marcos who were quick and responsive even after 18h shift. The heavily pregnant Desiree and always smiling Bianka were more than attentive to everybody's needs and delivering drinks at the hottest hours of the day. After the second order they would remember the preferences and monitor when the drink is finish and bring a replenishment. We were surrounded by attention and that made our stay memorable

The buffet restaurant has very good selection and variety of food and the fine dining Don Pablo restaurant has one of the best lobsters I have eaten. Service is levels above what i have experienced in many European restaurants

The only thing we found shortage of was shades around the swimming pool area. Most of the sunbeds are under the sun and with the over 30C temperature one can get burned pretty quickly. Those that are under the shade get occupied by 8:30 a.m.

Room Tip: The distance between the pool and the lobby is about 5 min walk so you can't practically go wron...

Hotel is great, awesome beach, nice pool, food is great, good service. Thanks to Emmanuel at lobby, Murphy at lobby bar for great drinks, Miguel at buffet breakfast - omelets are supper awesome, Kelvin And Lino at beach bar - those two guys rocks.
People who did not rate this hotel 5 out of 5 are spoiled or something is wrong with them.

We find our stay incredible. The beach, restaurants and the service was impecable. In addition, the pool is very very clean and the incredible Barman, Domingo, Marcos and Dario create a world of fun to around this pool with their smile and drink :)

The rooms are very good. Always clean and the bathroom are awesome.
The fact that this hotel is a 18 year old does really offer an incredible opportunity for you to rest without cries or other worries. The Ambar , allows you to have access to all other resort restaurant at the esmeralda and the bavaro.

I recommend this hotel without any problem and I will go back for sure!!!
