Stayed at the Ambar from March 15th to the 29th. Being involved in the service industry ourselves we are not accustomed to giving marks of excellent because there is always room for improvement. That being said we are giving the Ambar an excellent rating in every category. We cannot find one area that is in need of improvement and do not even have a suggestion as to what they could improve on that would have made our stay more enjoyable.
We've traveled to over a dozen locations, staying at high end resorts and the first thing we want to state is that the staff at the Ambar is the best and friendliest that we've ever had the pleasure to meet. From the security team, the pool towel personnel, house keeping, baggage service, reception desk, wait staff, bartenders and grounds crew these people did an outstanding job and made our stay wonderful. If there is a way to fulfill your request they will do so.
The food quality is exceptional. The great thing about the Ambar is you have unlimited ala carte restaurants and have access to all the Bahia restaurants. We liked all the restaurants including the buffet, but if we had to pick a favorite it would be the Mexican or Japanese.
The rooms are super clean, the staff is always cleaning or painting something to keep the resort top notch.
The pool and surrounding area is awesome! You can't reserve chairs so don't plan on putting your stuff on them and walking away before 8:00. If you do they might pull your stuff off. After 8 you're good to go and there are still plenty of spots so you don't have to get up in the middle of the night to do the chair saving.

We will continue to return to the Ambar as long as they continue to do what they are doing right now.

This was an amazing resort!!! The food and service was excellent. The Ambar section was the nicest because it was so quiet and peaceful. I would recommend that you choose a building in the 60 sections, these are the best situated near the pool, lobby and beach. Don't go to the section in the 70's, they seemed a little outdated. overall the whole bahia principe was an awesome experience. would definitely return!!

Room Tip: choose rooms in the buildings that are in the 60's

I will start by saying that we had a fantastic, relaxing time at the Ambar. The expectations were high due to all the research put in prior to booking.
I have rated some aspects lower than excellent due to a very few things, none of which ruined our vacation but did slightly disappoint.

CONS:
We found the lobby bar service very slow and they only had Canadian Club on our first night and last night. CC was a factor in our decision to book the Ambar. I know that sounds a bit petty, but hubby is a rye drinker. The other lobbies did have it (at $5/shot) but for some reason, the Ambar lobby could not get any. Next time, we will bring a couple of bottles of Canadian rye from duty free for the room. Not a deal breaker for a return trip.

Secondly, and NOT the fault of the resort, the toilet was very slow flushing and after a couple of days stopped completely. We called guest services and a maintenace worker was there within a few minutes. He popped the toilet completey off only to find a bottle of body wash and a wrapped bar of soap jammed in there. Now, for those who have been to this resort you know that there is really no way to accidentally drop that kind of thing in the toilet. It's very disappointing to me that a guest - and an ADULT guest at that - would do such a thing. Anyway, long story short, they fixed the toilet as quickly as they could and had the maid in to clean the bathroom right away.
PROS:
Everything else!
Maid service was fantastic. I believe our day maid was Amy. The room was absolutely immaculate and if available, she was able to give us more of what we liked in the mini bar and leave out the stuff that we weren't going to use. The whole cleaning staff was very friendly and wanted to have conversations, but our Spanish is extremely limited. Both of us are determined to learn more so we don't have to play charades in the hallway anymore! The turndown service and chocolates were a nice plus!
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable with very crisp and fresh linens. The lobby was very comfortable and the entertainment in the evenings was quite enjoyable. It was nice to just sit and relax after a long day at the pool, beach or exploring the large but beautiful complex.
The food was great!. We ate at the beach buffet for breakfast and lunch mostly as it was convenient. The selection was fine and the quality was great. We chose Takara, Don Pablo, El Olivo and Garden Grill as a la cartes. All were great. The chateau briand at Don Pablo was perfectly cooked and a great sized portion and the chicken teppanyaki at Takara was also quite delicious. I have no complaints about any of the a la cartes. Service was good and I even liked the fact that most of them have the buffet-style appetizers. Although I am not a dessert person, they all looked fantastic!

If you can request a "butler", ask for Emmanuel! He was so fantastic! Friendly, helpful and really seemed to be concerned at any small issues like the lack of CC at the bar. To make up for it, he personally delivered a bottle of champagne to our room while we were at the pool. We sipped on it on the balcony while we were getting ready for dinner. Thank you Emmanuel for your great service!

The pool and beach were great! On a couple of days it was more difficult to get shaded chairs, but if you keep looking, you will find them! We spent most of our time at the pool because the atmosphere was a little more lively, but it was still quiet in comparison to the other parts of the complex. The drink service was outstanding! The pool bar with Junior, Elvis and Marcos was always entertaining. They were always friendly - laughing and singing all day long! The main reason for spending so much time at the pool was the lovely Bianca! Wow! The service from her was out of this world. We missed one day at the pool and she was genuinely happy to see us the next day. All smiles, all day! Thank you Bianca!

Overall, this was a fantastically relaxing vacation! I would highly recommend the Ambar to anyone!

Room Tip: Buildings 60, 64 and 67 are right behind the pool. If you are in building 60 and want complete quiet, request a room not facing Ave Turquesa as there is a lot of tram traffic. Fun to watch though!

Our 5th stay at the ambar and every year it gets harder to leave.We can not say enough good things about this resort,from the rooms, grounds, staff, and the food. I have read reviews in the past that people have complained about the staff not being able to speak English or about the food. It seems to me that you need to remember where you are first of all, and to those people who complain about the food you probably would complain even at a 5 star Michelin restaurant.
We wish to thank all the staff at the Ambar for making our stay incredible as always. Special thanks to: Aldo, Idelin, Jorge, Elvis, and Desire at the pool bar. We had the oppurtunity to meet the Director of the Ambar Jose Lima who was very gracious, helpful and down to earth.Can't wait to return next year.

Great vacation, great food, great beach, great pool, great rooms, great staff, great restaurants. Only thing that kind of ticked me off was that people put their towels on the chairs at the beach and the pool but don't show up to sit on them. Have been to the Dominican many times and was beginning to believe that the food was terrible no matter where you went. I was wrong this place is amazing. Only 1 thing to watch out for, my husband bought 2 cigars in the cigar shop, cost was 90. us. When we got home we opened them and they were covered in mould. Check before you buy.
