“Fantastic holiday”

We stayed in the Ambar in September, had a fantastic time, food amazing, staff were brilliant, most relaxing holiday ever, everything we needed was provided, beach staff were fantastic, as were the staff in the beach restaurant. Our room was clean and spacious, it was everything we hoped for. This was our first time in DR and can't wait to go back. can't understand some of the negative reviews on here as our every whim was catered for with a smile, such lovely staff, came home refreshed and felt like I had a real break from it all. Beach is lovely, pool area is lovely, grounds clean and tidy, we stayed near to the spa and I slept like a log every night! Amazing holiday for us!

Iam staying in an amazing Gran Bahia Prince Amabar. The lobby bar service provide by Woody was very exellent, he is always smiling and he is very kind. All of services in general are good. Beautifull rooms, and very clean. Delicius food and service.

Special thanks to the Manager of guess services at the Ambar: he was giving us the best room in the complex, overlooking the pool and ocean. Congratulations to all maintenance staff. Room upkeep was exceeding our expectations,very clean and daily upkeep. The building are surrounded by botanical gardens.

Food was excellent and various choices of a la carte gournet restaurants; reservations to gourmet restaurants was easy¨, simply go to the guest services in the lobby and they will take care of your requests.
Beach in Punta Cana is amongst the best in the islands. Was at the hotel, during week of Oct 7 2012; hotel not fully booked therefore it helped in getting lawn chairs near ocean.

Overall services were top rated. We have visited nearly 20 resorts in the island and this Ambar is a 5 stars; we will be back....

Room Tip: ask for building 60, 64 or 67...best locations

Just returned from two weeks at the Ambar (adults only). This was a first for us as we have previously spent our last seven vacations at the Melia in Punta Cana. The absence of children was wonderful - no screaming kids in the restaurants or on the beach - Bliss!!! We had VIP check -in, courtesy of Albania who very kindly showed us around in June. Rooms are spacious and well furnished and maintained - housekeeping was excellent and standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel was exceptional. Staff were very helpful and friendly although service in the al a carte restaurants was sometimes rather slow but, hey, we were on vacation - so what? The quality and presentation of the food was superb. At the Ambar there are only three a la carte restaurants so we visited the Garden Grill. Good food but extremely hot in the restaurant. - No air-con so we melted while we ate and couldn't wait to leave! It was a long trek to the other restaurants and the wierd shuttle service meant you have to change shuttle to get to other parts of the complex. Only one real complaint - and that was the aquatics centre at Ambar. We love to go sailing every day but there was one catamaran and this was unsafe - twice its mast broke while it was out on the water (once with us in it) and we had to be rescued - not very good. Discussion with the guy who did the bookings proved fruitless. Apparently there had been two boats, but one had broken down and had been sent away for repair some two months ago and not returned. Consequently we couldn't sail every day. Disappointing - one boat for approx 1000 people? The guy told us to contact reception regarding this matter - reception said it was not their problem - it was a franchise!!! Sea was rough so friends could not swim. However, it was a great holiday, thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Firstly, can I just say what an amazing holiday we had. The hotel is beautiful, staff friendly and so hard working, beach perfect and brilliant pool. With the Ambar wristbands, you never have to worry about anything, everything is already included in your booking.

As the wider complex is such a huge operation, there is plenty to see and so as long as you are prepared to leave the Ambar section. They even have little buggies that act as buses to carry you around.

The one complaint that I have is that they were not really capable of catering for my partners gluten free diet. The food was delicious, plentiful, varied and well prepared but nowhere did they say whether they were gluten free. The waiting team did their best but they kept on suggesting things which we knew could not be gluten free - for example, one night we were told that spaghetti was okay, the next we were sent fried chicken in breadcrumbs for room service despite specifically explaining the danger of my partner eating gluten.

When I spoke to the Manager of the Don Pablo (who was also the Manager of the main buffet restaurant) he didn't see any need in indicating on the menus and buffet description cards what contained gluten as he said his team were very well trained. Despite this, a few nights later his team in the amazing Don Pablo restaurant served my partner food containing gluten in at least one course which had to be sent away. Not surprisingly my partner was seriously unwell as something in the main course must have contained gluten too. There was no point in speaking to the manager again as he was so rude when I spoke to him earlier - this was such a shame as his whole team were so friendly throughout especially Maria in the buffet and another lady who worked in the reception of the Don Pablo as well as in the main restaurant sometimes.

Other than this issue, the holiday was perfect and if only they could resolve this one issue we would be back at least once per year, probably more often!! For the price I also would have expected free wifi throughout as well but it was only 10usd for up to 3 days usage (max 24hrs over 3 days).

Room Tip: Apartment blocks 64 and 67 were perfect, so close to the pool and beach!

Very nice resort. The grounds were beautiful the food was quite good. Ambar was the right choice for us as the other resorts (Bavaro Punta Cana) are to far from the beach requiring shuttle service to take you to the beach. Ambar is also adults only. Night life however left a lot to be desired. The place turns into a ghost town by 8:00 PM there is really no where to go except the hotel lobby to socialize in a realatively smoke free environment. Even going up to the other resorts there was very little to do.

We are staying now in a beautiful Gran Bahia Principe Ambar. This place is a PARADISE!
Beautiful rooms. The food is Delicious. Excellent service. Beach, pools, and bars every thing is fantastic!
Very friendly staff, but Best of them all Aldo Francois front desk Supervisor. We would like to say our special Thank you to Aldo. From the first minute we meet him he makes you feel very welcome. He is always ready to help you. His service and friendly manner is exceptional . He is an asset for the resort.
We will recommend this Resort for all our friends!
