“40th wedding anniversary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2014

overall great vacation; they were very helpful with my husband who had mobility issues. Great transportation around the complex. Swim-up room fabulous. Great service with the butler in each building- especially Oskar and Karini in building 54
Biggest complaint is the food. Had four dinners- only two were considered good; meat overcooked and not of good quality on one occasion. Good dinners at the Japanese steakhouse and the La Parilla restaurant
Another concern was that air conditioner condensation leaked onto the tile floor and this was a major spillage hazard- was not able to fix this but other issues dealt with satisfactorily.
Mattress very hard

Room Tip: Go to the restaurants other than the two designated for the royal suites- much better food. The butle...

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Suites from 5/21-5/27. We were in building 51 which overlooked the pool. The room was extremely clean and we had no issues. We were booked at the Grand Palladium Palace, however when we checked in we were surprised to hear that we were upgraded to the Royal Suites. The Butler service was nice, all of the staff on the resort were very friendly. The grounds are very well kept, and maintained. The food was good there was always something to eat. We ate at the Gourmet restaurant for breakfast everyday and twice for dinner. The food was at the Gourmet was very very good. We did not try the French as there was nothing on the menu that appealed to us, we did eat at the Brazilian, lots of food/meat to try. We also liked the Japanese show cooking, our cook was very entertaining and the food was great. We did try the 24 hour room service, the first time we ordered it took about 40 minutes to an hour to arrive, the second time we ordered it was much quicker, about 20 minutes. The food arrived hot and was good, it was nice if you needed a snack late at night.
The beach was wonderful. It was a wide beach with no rocks or coral and it was really nice to walk. Beware though if you turn right you will walk by several shops and will be asked to buy things, simply say no thanks and they leave you alone. We only went right one time, the rest of the week we turned left if we wanted to take a walk. The weather was great, 80's with a nice breeze on the beach and sunny every day. It was not humid at all, I am not sure if it was just the time of year or if it is always like that , it was very comfortable. We did not have any trouble finding a shaded hut at the beach every day. The pool was also nice, it had a great swim up bar and the bartenders there provided good service. I really liked being in the adults only section, this section of the resort was very quiet and was reserved for Royal Suites guests only. The other thing that was nice is we did not need towel cards to get a towel, free wi-fi in the room was also a bonus. Overall, this is an excellent resort. We have stayed at the Grand Palladium in Mexico twice and decided to try the Punta Cana location this year. We were not disappointed! The people in the Dominican Republic are very friendly and nice, we had a great experience. We will be going back next year and will choose the Palladium.

I will do my best to give a fair review below.

Rooms - Average compared to other resorts I have visited in Punta Cana. We have a romance swim up suite, which is the end unit at the pool. That means all of the debris floated down to our end and settled there. When they cut the grass, all of the grass floated there where we swam until we asked them to please clean it. Once morning there was a dead bird floating in it. Other times, a band aid and lots of plant debris. The swim up portion of the room is the best feature however. The rooms are way too far from the beach.

Room Service - Not good at all. Meat was consistently undercooked and the tacos/quesadillas were not good at all. The brownie was the only thing that was halfway decent. On average it probably took an hour for the order for arrive, sometimes faster other times longer.

Restaurants - Royal Gourmet was good. Did not like the French Restaurant or the Mexican (though my wife liked the Mexican). She is allergic to shellfish and the steakhouse gave her conch chowder instead of onion soup. One bite was all it took to realize we had to rush back to our room for medicine. The language barrier didn't allow us to communicate what had happened. We tried, but they just didn't understand. This could have ended very badly, but thankfully it didn't. The main buffet had good pasta, but that's all we liked there. We did enjoy the various cheeses at each restaurant.

Spa - We did the moonlight champagne massage twice. That was amazing. The massage was just swedish, so nothing rough. The setting was perfect with the moonlight, ocean sound and beach breeze. High recommended.

Casino - Buzzkill. No one was in there. Lost $100 in about 3 minutes at the blackjack table. Just bad cards I supposed b/c I play by the book and do very well about 75% of the time.

Beach Shops - Tell them when you go in to leave you alone and they will for the most part. You can talk them down on price pretty good.

Staff - Everyone was a friendly as can be. The only complain here was they didn't give us our free room upgrade for our honeymoon. We got charged $60 for the remaining 6 nights and actually wished we'd kept our first room.

Bartenders - All were very friendly and gave us what we asked for most of the time :)

Overall I can't recommend this over other resorts I've been to in DR (Majestic Elegance twice and Ocean Blue once). It is just too large, being that it is 4 resorts that you have access to. Even with the transportation availability, it was too much planning ahead.

My favorite part was the earthquake, so I guess that doesn't speak volumes about the trip.

Room Tip: Building 54 is one of the furthest from the beach.

We are most disturbed to learn about your dissatisfaction with some of our services. Allow me to extend our most sincere apologies since we were not able not meet your expectations with some of our facilities.

I regret not having had the opportunity to attend you personally during your stay; apart from my entire management team, I was always at the disposition of our guests whenever they required any specific assistance. We also would like to emphasize it is very important to provide us such information in order to send a special letter to each facilities since the wellbeing of all our guests is our reason to be.

On a positive note I highly appreciate your recognitions on the excellent service offered in the Spa and other staff members.

We thank again and hope that this do not deter you from coming back in the near future.

Sincerely,

R. Segarra.

We stayed at this resort on the advice of our travel agent. We wanted something quiet, adults-only,great beach and good food. This place did fill those requirements, but we won't go back. It was our first time at this resort but our second trip to the DR. We had a swim-up in block 54 which is too close to the road as we could hear the traffic and kids from a local school. That block seems to be in need of repair as there were many things that needed attention both outside and in the room. Oscar, our butler wasn't much help at all. Room service is horrid. The food arrives cold (even the coffee), it is poor quality and they took an hour and a half to deliver it and got the order wrong! The staff speak very little English and for the most part were surly. The spa is fantastic and the massage was very, very good. The beach is lovely but you have to get up very early (before 7:00) to get a chair under the umbrellas. It was a nice, relaxing week but next time we'll try somewhere else.

My wife and I and another couple stayed the week of May 24th for 7 nights. This was our 3rd time to the DR and second time to the Royal Suites. We had a very enjoyable relaxing week. We stayed in a swim out suite in building 55. We were very happy when the couple traveling with us were placed in the room right beside us. The only note on building 55 is that the pool on this building gets shade in the evening, which worked out well for us as we stayed at the beach or the main pool until the afternoon then relaxed in the shade of our swim out pool until dinner. Oscar and Melky were the butlers during our stay and were very helpful.
Some other comments -
Restaurants -
Royal Gourmet - was very good. Had dinner here one night and the food and service were both good.
Brazilian - again, both food and service was very good. Come hungry and ready to eat lots of meat.
Japanese - Excellent! We ate at the show tables both times we went (liked it so well the first time we rebooked another night). This was a large meal as you can choose everything on the menu. They start with either sushi or soup, then go right into cooking the rice, vegetables, beef and chicken. Once you start eating that then shrimp and salmon are grilled for anyone who wants it. Everything we ate was excellent here! The first night we had Carlos doing the show cooking, he was amazing! He kept the entire table, 10 of us, fully engaged in the experience and laughing the entire time. For the second night we ate there we had Fredy doing the show cooking and he was very good as well. We had a great time both times we ate here.
Steakhouse - good food and just ok service. Most beef is over cooked at the resort except here. I ordered medium and it was slightly under medium but very good. My wife ordered the ribeye and didn't notice that it was the cowboy cut. It was a very large steak and very good. The service was a little slower than the others and we had to ask several times for English menus before we finally got them.
Las Torres buffet - this is where we ate breakfast every morning as it is right next to the Royal Gourmet and very convenient to eat and go right to the beach. We wore our swimming suits every morning to breakfast. Omelets are very good here and the blended fruit smoothies were excellent. We had Molina as our waiter here each morning. He remembered us daily and had a table waiting for us. We also had him one night at the Brazilian. He takes excellent care of you and took time for us to take pictures with him one morning. We cant say enough about Molina. He was our favorite and deserved every dollar we tipped him.
Bohio Buffet - convenient to the beach and was good for a quick lunch. A good variety of food including burgers, pizza, and many other buffet choices.

The Beach -
Very nice beach with plenty of chairs and beds. Lots of shady areas under the palms or plenty of room right out on the beach for full sun. Be prepared to get there early to get choice spots. We went down at 7am, got our spot, then went to breakfast then back to the beach. Late comers still got chairs, just not up front.
Boats are loading up just to the right of our beach and can occasionally chop up some seaweed when they departed. It would drift through our area but was not really enough to be a nuisance.

Entertainment - We only went to the Sunset Theatre. First time we left right after it started as it was not that entertaining. Second time we went was to the Michael Jackson show and it was excellent.
Music in the various lobbies was good. A wide variety for different tastes. You could usually find something that you wanted to listen to for a while.
The grounds - are spotless and impeccably maintained. Very beautiful landscaping and many plants from various areas of the world had signs so you could tell what they were and where they were from.
Housekeeping did an excellent job keeping the room cleaned and giving us extra towels when asked.
One night our door would not unlock so Melky called maintenance and they were there in minutes to get us into our room then replace the batteries on the door lock. No other issues.

Overall we had a great experience at a great resort and would recommend this resort to anyone.

Room Tip: Choose the swim out option. Nothing like having your own pool area. We had an end unit and had the e...

We visited this resort for our Honeymoon 5/21-5/28 and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our butler, Angel R., did a GREAT job!! Most days we had Angela P. cleaning our room and she was wonderful as well. Overall, the property and beautiful, well-maintained, and quiet. This resort is perfect for anyone who wants to completely relax. We hope to visit Punta Cana again someday and will definitely stay at the Royal Turquesa!

My husband and I traveled here in May of 2014 for our honeymoon. We had a decent time, but are very willing to try other places. We stayed in an "ocean view" room which actually faced the pool, which got very rowdy around 4pm. If you put your head over the balcony and looked to the right you could see the beach, but definitely not what I would consider ocean view. We were in building 52 so we were on the very end of the resort property. The open air hallway to our room had a view of the streets surrounding the outskirts of the property which displayed rooftops covered in garbage and there was constant noise coming from the street below. This did not leave for a very peaceful experience.

The staff was great for the most part. It seemed as though there was always someone coming into our room. The first day we easily had 5 people come knock on our door within 30 minutes. This may be because they let us into a room before it was ready. This was consistent throughout the trip with someone always trying to come in to refresh cold drinks, alcohol, towels, etc - it would be better if one of two people did these roles instead of a single person for every different thing - it would make a lot less traffic in the room and a lot more time for relaxation. As a honeymoon couple, we read that we were supposed to have a "gift" in our room, but we never received this and was disappointed about this.

The cleanliness of the resort as a whole was great. We did the mini golf course one evening after dinner and was not impressed - could definitely use updating.

The food was inconsistent and was never sure what we were going to get. This was consistent with all of the other guests we spoke with. We had great service at the French restaurant, one of the restaurants only available to the guests staying at the adults only portion of the resort as well as great service at the steakhouse. The drinks were also inconsistent and you must ask for alcohol in your drinks. The beach was amazing and very well controlled - no one there trying to bother you to buy things. The resort does push their products very hard (spa while walking to breakfast) and (snorkeling and trips while on the beach). I have had this happen at other places we have visited, but my husband was very upset with how persistent and disrupting these salespeople could be.

The resort is huge and hard to figure out at first. The maps are very unhelpful and do not include "you are here" signs so it is hard to figure out where you are going the first few days. The good thing is that they are pretty good about transportation. There is free transportation throughout the whole resort and having a gold bracelet indicating that you are a turquesa guest gets you quick service.

Overall, it was a decent experience, but do not plan to go back. We met couples who had come to the resort for up to 7 years in a row, so everyone has different experiences here.
