This was our 3rd year at this resort so we were prepared for what it had to offer, but were a little dissapointed overall. We noticed this year the beds were a bit more worn/ very hard and they could use an upgrade but our butler (Dominga) was more that willing to help and it all worked out. Another butler who went beyond the call of duty was melky ciprian..amazing service gals. This year my husband and I both got food poisening :( My 2nd day and I was sick for 5 days straight. As soon as I got better my husband got sick for 3 days. They really made money on us this year..The most we ate was fries, bread, and potatoes.I had a total of 4 alcoholic drinks in 2 weeks :( needless to say we felt ripped off. its the amazing staff that makes this resort...our lovely maid was Yudelka perez..loved her!!!! also our bus man was Nayo Alcantara...such hard working trustworthy people.would we go back to this resort..not sure..having food poisening is still very close in my memory

Room Tip: our favorite room is the swim up..saves you the trouble of looking for seats at the pool. if you dont mind being away from the beach

February 25th, 2014, we arrived at the Grand Palladium Palace in Punta Cana. We had booked this resort with another couple under one reservation number. When we arrived, our friends noticed that their bracelet was upgraded to the Royal Suites Turquesa. Our bracelet showed the Bavaro side of the resort. For anyone who is familiar with this resort. The Palace section has just over 300 rooms and the Bavaro section has over 1000 rooms. We purposely booked into the Palace because of the size of it. We were quite distraught to think that they were trying to move us to the Bavaro section which is quite a distance from the portion of the resort we booked at. We had heard that many people did get upgraded to the Turquesa and were surprised when only 2 of the 4 of us received the upgrade since we booked together. We advised the representative from the Palace, William that it was unacceptable to have our friends in one portion of the resort and us in another section and he advised us that it was no problem as it was all one resort and we would be able to see each other. The Bavaro section is a long distance from the Palace section, and we would have spent our days trying to hook up with our friends somewhere along the way. You need to take a golf cart or train to get around this whole resort as it is so big. After some discussion, William asked if we would wait until he processed the other guests and then he would see what he could do for us. We waited about 1/2 hour, and William came back and we too were upgraded to the Royal Suites Turquesa. This made us very happy as we wanted to be in the same section of the resort as the couple we travelled with, and we knew that this was a good upgrade. My issue here is that I do not understand how if we all booked under the same reference number, the resort wouldn't be aware of this, and why would they move each couple so far from each other. Our booking clearly indicated that we wanted to be near the couple we booked with in the notes section. I have written to the resort directly and sent my complaint to Air Transat via my travel agent as well because I feel they should be aware that this has happened to their customers so that other people do not have to experience this frustration at the end of a long travel day.
Now, after saying what happened, I would like to say that we were given the upgrade to Building 50 and were put in room 5017, which was perfect. We had a great view of the pool and a little view of the beach from our balcony. Our maid, Santa, did a wonderful job keeping our room clean, and made us the towel art each day. Everything in the room worked, had great water pressure in the large shower, amenities were always stocked, our bar fridge was stocked, and we always had lots of bottled water, beers and soft drinks in the fridge. There is a wine cooler in each room that contains 4 bottles of wine. There is a cost for this wine, which is fairly reasonable. Unfortunately, the wine cooler is not turned on, so the wine is not chilled if you want to purchase a bottle of cold wine. If you decide you think you might purchase one, you should either get a bucket of ice and chill it ahead of time or put it in your mini fridge.
The food at this resort in the Al La Carte restaurants was very good. Since we were now guests in the Royal Suites, we were able to have our butler make a reservation for us and we went to 5 of the speciality restaurants. The Italian, Brazilian, Japanese (show table), Steak House, and Mexican. We enjoyed all of the restaurants except perhaps the steak house. The evening we were there, the supervisor was making his rounds with his I pad and we felt he intimidated the staff working that evening. There was no interaction with the guests, service was very slow and it was extremely hot in the restaurant. It took 2 hours to have our supper, and then we decided to leave before dessert and coffee since the wait staff didn't come back to take any orders. The salad bar was great at all the restaurants and the quality of food was great. We loved the interaction with all the waiters in the restaurants except for this particular evening. Do not feel it was the staff's fault. The food in the buffet was fine, we always found lots to eat. Omelettes in the AM were cooked great, there was a staff member preparing waffles, crepes, smoothies, etc. We went to the buffet two evenings out of seven and enjoyed both of them. We were their on American night and especially enjoyed the rice dish as well as the Cream of Celery Soup and the Kentucky Fried Chicken. During the day, we attended the buffet near the pool in the Punta Cana section of the resort. Panini's were great, as long as you didn't mind a bit of a line up. Pasta station was lovely and the wine and beer were always plentiful. The wait staff were great here and always had a smile and seemed happy to see the guests. I enjoyed the nachos and guacamole. The pizza crusts were great. Hamburgers never seemed to be cooked thoroughly unfortunately. This was the same at the grill on the beach. Hot dogs were good. Since we were in the Turquesa section, from time to time, little mini pizzas were delivered by the waiters to the beach to the guests. Also, the waiters came to the beach and took drink orders which was very convenient. We never had a problem getting a palapa at the pool bar area. People do still put their towels on the beach early in the morning and never show up for their seats which is terribly selfish of them.
We are Canadians and speak English only. We did find that there was a language barrier here with a lot of the staff. A lot of Europeans were at the resort and French Canadians. They didn't seem to have a problem conversing with the staff, but there were quite a few staff members that had a very hard time understanding questions or comments spoken in English. Perhaps this resort might have a bit more English language training for some of the staff.
The grounds at this resort were stunning and very well maintained. Workers were always fixing something and keeping the Palm trees trimmed up and the flower gardens maintained. It is a very pretty resort and very clean.
The beach is a bit narrow, but there are usually lots of extra chairs stacked up. We were there after a bit of a rough water period of time and there were tons of conch shells in the sand as well as some broken glass. Our group removed a lot of this from the water, but I would recommend beach water shoes, in the event that you might step on these. The conch shells were sharp to the bottoms of your feet. We felt that the sand was moved a lot from the wave action, as the conch shells were all older and the glass was worn by the sand movement. Still not fun to step on something sharp. This can happen on any beach so its just a precaution for ones own safety.
The train is a great way to take a tour of the resort. We took the train around the whole resort and visited the Sports Bar for lunch one day. We had wraps and Panini's, which were great. The cook here did a great job.
We did tip a lot, and we did get good service. We didn't feel we had to tip, to get the service as the bar staff were always pleasant and always made the rounds to see what drinks we wanted. There were premium alcohols at the beach bar and in the lobby of the Turquesa section of the resort. The Palace section didn't have the same labels of alcohol, but everything was fine just the same.
Air Transat reps Marcus and Jonathon at the resort, were a little confused about the time change for our scheduled departure. We knew in advance that our flight to return home had been changed by two hours later, and this was never changed in the book that they keep in the lobby. I didn't bother checking after the last evening before our return flight, since we checked on line and knew what the correct time was. We did advise these reps but they didn't seem to think it was an issue, that the time was wrong. For anyone travelling the first time to an all inclusive, this could have been very confusing for them and they would have checked out early from their room and stayed in the lobby for a few extra hours than necessary.
I would like to mention that our butlers, Andy and Melkie did a fantastic job of looking after our group. Andy fixed our air conditioner after the first night, and Melkie was very pleasant. Andy's English is excellent and he was always on hand for anything needed. Melkie also had great English and was easy to understand. David from building 51 was a great butler as well and made reservations for our group for the evening dinners. Thomas, who wears a hat that he collects lapel pins on was very friendly. If you have lapel pins, take him one, he will appreciate it. Edwin was a great waiter at both the Brazilian restaurant and the Japanese restaurant. Very funny, friendly and helpful. We also really enjoyed a bit of time with Gary at the bar between the Japanese restaurant and the Brazilian restaurant. He went out of his way to make our visit enjoyable, even decorating glasses with CANADA on them. Patricio was a great waiter at the pool bar at the Turquesa section. He was always on hand to bring you whatever drinks you wanted either at the pool or the beach. The waiters here would take your insulated mug and fill it for you.
Our group would recommend this resort to anyone and would recommend that you upgrade to the Royal Suites Turquesa if you can. The restaurant does not accept reservations for the Al La Carte restaurants. There are a lot of these on the resort. But if you are in the Royal Suites, you can make a reservation. Unfortunately, its a little hard to walk by all the people waiting in line, for a time to eat.
The complex where the Mexican restaurant is seemed to be very new and was lovely. Nice bars here and restaurants and a large buffet. The Casino is very small and nothing to write home about. Take the shopping trip to Nicole's boutique if you want to buy good jewellery. The jewellery the vendors sell at the market is garbage and is the same as its been for the past 15 years. My friend bought two bracelets and both fell apart the same day. She had paid $26 for one. She lost her money on this deal. We did not go to any of the entertainment so cannot comment on this.

Room Tip: Building # 50 had rooms with a great location to the pool in the Royal Suites Turquesa Section

After a some little problems on arrival, the Management react very accurate and serious. So after the 'restart' we had an amazing holiday. The resort is clean and correct. We are not really 'All Inclusive' supporters but in this Resort there's a special VIP bracelet for people who stay in a Royal Suite. And with that bracelet you can 'open' many more doors in special areas like private pools and private restaurants where you forget that you are in a All Inclusive resort.
After the room has been serviced it was every day a surprise cause the room maids were so creative with towels, for example we enclosed a picture.
Again they have a Excellent Management team and special thanks to Mr. Tajes and Mr. Octavio for understanding their Guest wishes.

Room Tip: Take a Romance Suite with Swim-Up, it is amazing!

This is an All Inclusive Resort and the Royal Suites Turquesa is an Adult Only hotel. This was wonderful to go to the pool and exclusive restaurants (only for RST) guests and not have children all around. We stayed in building 55 and all the rooms in this section had private pools. No problem getting chairs and it was never crowded. We had a balcony which was private the way we like it. However if you wanted a first floor room the patio opened onto the pool and it was like having your own private pool. Never ending food and drinks at a variety of restaurants! Nightlife too! And if you did come with children there was lots of entertainment for them as well. Beach was beautiful. Very relaxing vacation!
