“Great service, food & location”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Suites Turquesa by Palladium from November 15th-26th. This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and we had an amazing time. The only issue we did have was with our room when we first arrived but it wasn't the resort's fault. We had booked through a travel agency a swim-up room and when we arrived, our room was on the second floor. We paid for a swim-up room but the travel agency booked a standard room for us. The hotel was more then accommodating in upgrading us to a honeymoon suite. We stayed in room 5242. It wasn't a swim-up room but it was actually better (a huge upgrade). We had pool and ocean views. It was a great location to the beach. Our balcony was huge with a jacuzzi and lounge chairs to lay out in the sun. All of the staff gave us exceptional service especially two of the butlers Dominga and Oscar. They were both very attentive and were there for us 100% for any requests we needed. The grounds of this resort were absolutely breathtaking. The food was amazing. So many choices of restaurants and buffets. Our favorite restaurant was the steakhouse but we preferred the buffets. We like to dine casually and go out to eat when we wanted without a reservation. The best part about the buffet was the authentic Dominican food. Absolutely delicious. I wish we were there now instead of freezing and cold New Jersey. We really miss this place :-( I highly recommend this resort. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Palladium for a wonderful vacation! - The Martin's

The second year in a row at this resort for my husband and I. Awesome resort. Staff are very helpful, accomodating and friendly. The rooms are clean and well stocked. No problems whatsoever with our room. We had a swim-up room which is the best. The maid which took care of our room (Glenny) went out of her way to clean our room and the towel creations she made everyday were over the top. The beach is of course, fabulous. Special thank you to Dominga our butler. She is absolutely the best. Everything we requested was done promptly and efficiently. I would highly recommend this resort to adults wanting a romantic, quiet get away.

Room Tip: Definitely get a swim up room which are in the newer part of the resort.

This being our 3rd trip to this resort was the best yet and our first time with 2 full weeks. Sept 29 to Oct 13, 2013 and we were attending the Palladium Addicts 3rd Fiesta. We had originally been booked in the Palace resort but on arrival found we had been upgraded to The royal Suites in the new section. We then paid a small surcharge to put ourselves in a suite with the knowledge that when a swim up became available in 4 days we would be able to switch rooms. As it was slow season, 3 of the buildings were closed for renovations and swim ups were hard to come by. On the day of the switch the only swim up that became available had unacceptable issues with the phone so we once again found ourselves upgraded and moving into a Cabana swim up across from building 58, itself closed except for a handfull of units reserved for a movie crew that were filming onsite. The only neighbors we had for most of our stay were a family of ducks that were nesting in some shrubbery by our pool and a rougue tarantula that decide to join us for a midnight swim one night. To us this location could not have been more perfect, secluded from all but still less than a minute walk to the poolbar where most of our group of 100+ congregated through the day and evening. Even being in the end cabana, I could still get to the beach each day in less than 5 minutes.
Every employee we had the pleasure of interacting with during our 2 week stay had our best interests in mind and many bent over backwards to help if and when needed. I just wish I could remember names to single out these special people as they do start to feel like family after each visit.
Our room was serviced daily as was the mini bar and even though on most days we were the only two using "our" pool it too was maintained daily.
Our dinning habits consisted of breakfast in the royal gourmet, lunch at the one of the beach restaurants (usually a pasta made to order) and dinners at one of the two restaurants onsite reserved for Royal guests only. The only ala carte we ate at was the Japanese show table and as in the past we were not dissappointed in the food or show.
This resort will always have a special place in our hearts as our daughter was married here in 2009. That being said, staff and management continually impress me with their desire to improve and to make me feel welcome, like family.

Room Tip: Get a swim up if possible, well worth the money.

We stayed at the Royal Suites Grand Palladium for 11 nights at the end of October. This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic, but we had stayed at a Palladium resort on the Riviera Maya in Mexico before and therefore had certain expectations of the brand. Our experience was very disappointing - the hotel was certainly not 4 or 5 stars, but rather a run-down 3-star hotel.

Rooms:
We stayed in a Junior Suite quite close to the lobby. The room was fairly big and at first glance similar to the one we had had in Mexico, but there were a few problems. The ceiling's wood panels were badly warped in the area around the air conditioning unit; the unit itself kept leaking water onto the floor, making it very slippery. There were also rusty, pretty disgusting stains on the air con unit itself. The wall in the toilet was wet with paint peeling off. The door to the toilet was broken so it was almost impossible to move; this was only fixed after the second complaint. Housekeeping was not amazing - on two occasions, they forgot to replace our towels, so we had to call the butler service to get more, which took around an hour each time. It shouldn't be difficult to get this right. Also, the towels were very old and frayed, not at the standard you expect in a luxury resort. And the pillows we ordered from the 'pillow menu' were very lumpy - not nice at all.

When we mentioned that the room was a bit basic, the Butler suggested an upgrade and was very quick to show us a price list. We were quite eager to move to a better suite - a Romance or Honeymoon one. He showed us rooms and we agreed to move to a Romance Suite the same day. The Butler, Juan, said he'd go over to reception to arrange it. He would come and find us in our room in 30 mins. An hour later he still hadn't appeared. We tried to call him, but just got answer phone (By the way: The Butlers are missing most of the time anyway...). We then called reception. They curtly told us that no rooms were available for us to move into. That was massively disappointing - first we're shown a nicer room, and then we can't have it. What a mess!

Restaurants: There are a fair few restaurants, a mix of buffet and a la carte. While we were there, sadly a lot of them were closed for renovations, so we only had 5 a la cartes to choose from: The Royal one (good enough food, but no atmosphere whatsoever), Japanese (fabulous and really good fun!), Brazilian (very good with amazing service), Italian (terrible - cold food, slow service, dirty tables) and the Steak House (shockingly bad service).
One thing that annoyed me a lot was that so many plates were chipped - but these just weren't taken out of circulation. We also saw a lot of table cloths with holes in them. Basic maintenance!
We weren't made aware that you needed to make all your restaurant reservations in advance, so we experienced problems here. On two occasions, we had to wait over 1.5 hours for a table - and we only realised why when another guest explained that you had to reserve days in advance. The frustrating thing was not so much the waiting - but the fact that the restaurant, when we were finally admitted, was half empty. There were lots of tables that just had not been cleared and were not cleared during the hour or so that we spent there. That was just unacceptable. However, we have to say that the breakfast, both at the Royal restaurant and in the large buffet restaurants, was amazing, so it wasn't all bad.

Room service: DO. NOT. TRY. Unless you want to wait for 90 mins for cold, soggy food served on chipped plates wrapped in cling film. Just don't try it.

Beach and pools: A nice, white sand beach, but massively overcrowded in the Royal section - basically, all the German and English guests go to the beach in the early morning on their way to breakfast and 'reserve' the better sun loungers using towels. After a few days, we learnt to just remove towels from loungers. That was the only way. -- The pools were better in terms of space, but I didn't like that they were quite poorly maintained. Many, many broken tiles in all the pools we tried.

Service: This is where this hotel really did not live up to its promise. The worst were the reception staff, both in the hotel lobby and at the Spa. For example: We went to the spa one afternoon and asked for towels. The answer was: We don't have any towels, you need to get them at the pool. Really? A spa without towels? How about you go and get some then? -- We went to the nearest pool, where the same thing happened again. 'We're out of towels, try the Spa'. Ridiculous - we actually made a formal complaint about this while we were there. However, our complaint was handled very badly. The first person we spoke to, a Royal receptionist called Maximo, just ignored us completely and did not write our complaint down for his colleagues at all. He said to come back the next day. We did. Maximo was off for the rest of the week. So we had to list all our complaints all over again. We were told to come back for a response in the evening. We did. No response. Told to come back the next morning. Then at lunch time. We went back to the reception a total of 15 times and each time, we were given the distinct impression that nobody wanted to deal with this and that we were a nuisance. It turned into sport by the end! It took 5 days to get an apology for the Spa incident. Not good enough at all.

All in all, we had a lovely holiday - but that's because it was our honeymoon and we were so pleased to have some time off together. The Royal Suites Turquesa by Palladium did their best to ruin the holiday for us, and we would neither return to this resort nor to any other run by Fiesta Hotels. It's a shame - we had such a wonderful time at Palladium Riviera Maya, but the Punta Cana resort has ruined it for us.

We stayed at the Royal Suites Gran Palladium from November 26th thru December 2nd. This was our sixth trip to the Dominican Republic. We also had stayed at all inclusive hotels in Mexico, Jamaica and Antigua. Our experience at the Royal Suites was just OK since we encounter some issues during our stay.

Rooms: The standard room we got was located closed to the Lobby. It was spacious; it has a nice balcony, separated seating area, shower and Jacuzzi. However, we had many issues with this room. The Lights did not work; they were fixed two or three hours after arrival. The Jacuzzi did not work and the shower and sink were broken. Also, it was very noisy since the concierge, butler and desks for other companies that sell excursions were very close by. Every day, early in the morning they were talking loud and it was just impossible to sleep after 7:00 AM. We requested another room and after two days we moved to a different room. The new room was much better and everything worked properly. However, the first night when coming back from dinner; we saw five or six cockroaches running around in our room. I spoke to the butler and he immediately fumigated the room with some spray he had on his desk. Also, the next day he asked housekeeping to fumigate again. We did not see any more cockroaches for the rest of our vacation.

Restaurants: There are lots of restaurants to choose from but my advice make reservations ASAP with your butler. The Japanese restaurant is fantastic; chef Fransisco is the best and put on a great show for us. The Brazilian restaurant was also very good. We also ate at “El Bohio” where we received good service from Jose and July.

Beach: Beautiful beach with blue water and fine white sand. There are lots of coconut trees and we were always able to find lounge chairs on the Palace side near to the bar.

Service: In general the service at this hotel is just average. If you book this hotel thinking you will receive great service you are mistaken. Service at buffets and restaurants were hit and miss. Sometimes you will get good service as we did at “El Bohio” and the Japanese restaurant but mostly you will receive average or bad service. For example, we went to the Bavaro main buffet for breakfast and we were never acknowledged by the waiter or offered any coffee or water during the whole time.

Pools: The complex had many pools including a water park for kids. We did not use the pools much during our stay but did notice that they are in need of some repairs.

Water sports: My husband and I love to do water-sports so before booking a hotel I always make sure that non-motorized s water-sports are included in the package. The Dolin Dive Center is the company that provides this service for the Palladium Hotels. Our experience with them was horrible. They were very unprofessional, rude and don’t have an idea of what customer service is or simply they just do not care. We felt we were bothering them every time we requested any services from them. During our stay we were not able to use kayaks, catamarans or do any other non-motorized water-sports that were included in our vacation package and paid for. Although, the kayaks and catamarans were just seating on the sand and nobody was using them, we were told we needed to make a reservation for the next day. Then, the next day they will have a different excuse and will not provide the equipment. However, every time we went to request the non-motorized water-sports they will try to sell us excursions that were not included. We felt we were stolen from since we paid for a service that we didn’t received and we were also mistreated in the process.

In general, I would say that we had a good vacation but I would not stay at this hotel again neither I would recommended it to my friends. We had too many issues with the rooms, service was average at best and the experience with the water-sport center was just atrocious. This hotel complex has so much to offer and it is a shame that management is not able to deliver good quality services to the guests.

Our bellboy, Miguel, was a fantastic. He made sure we were taken care of upon arrival and from then on. The room was great and everyone was very nice and ready to take care of us. I highly recommend this resort. The room service food wasn't fantastic, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It seemed like it was heated up in a microwave, but it was okay in a pinch. It does take about 40 minutes for the room service food to get to the room so you have to plan ahead.

As a Palladium Travel Club Member they made it so easy to stay focused on relaxing and let them take care of everything else. We have been members for 3 years now and love it. From the private pick up at the airport,Champagne and fruit in your rooms, and making reservation to all of the a la cart restaurants in advance is very nice.

Hotel : After we arrived from the airport which took about 25 minutes they checked us right in. had a cold drink and were taken to our room. We had a problem with the room and our butler Victor was on the phone and within 30 minutes he had our new room ready for us. I cant say enough about Victor he helped us out from day one till the minute we left. Thanks again Victor.
We stayed in the Royal area but in the old section which was great. Our belcony was right next to the pool bar so we met there at night before dinners and close to the beach. The lobby was beautiful had a nice bar and also had sections if you want more privacy and a computer room so you can access the internet.

Restaurants : Victor made reservations for all 6 nights that we were there. I read a lot of reviews about how horrible the food is but we thought it was excellent. We ate at the Steakhouse, Mexican, Brazilian,Chinese,French, and Japanese and all were excellent. They also have a sports bar which is OK the chicken panini was the best.

Beach : Being in the travel club we have been to Jamaica,Mexico, and now Punta Cana this beach is the most spectacular i have ever seen. The sand is so white and no rocks no matter where you walk. We took long walks on the beach and it was amazing. The ocean was sometimes rough but the water was great. There were always plenty of chairs at the beach and they have waiter service so you dont even have to leave your chair. They even come over with snacks such as pizza and sandwiches.

Rooms : Our room was very nice. We had a 4 post king size bed. And a huge hot tub on the balcony with 2 chairs and 2 sunbeds. The rooms were very clean and the air conditioning worked great. The cleaning staff were great and very friendly. There is a language barrier but remember we are in there country so make the best of it.

Grounds : The grounds were unbelivable. Always cleaning, Trimming the bushes,Weeding the flower beds hats off to all of them.It took a little while to navigate the grounds and find the short cuts but after a week i was getting it.

Overall : It was a great 7 nights of not thinking of the snow back home but just relaxing and enjoying 7 nights of paradise.

Room Tip: Stay in the old section of the royal area you will have a blast.
