“Brilliantly dirty fun”
Review of Crazy Wheels

Crazy Wheels
Reviewed June 20, 2012

We booked a half day Crazy Wheels trip through our Thomas Cook rep at Dreams La Romana. Have to say, it was the most fun we had. We got picked up early one morning and headed off to their site where the group were split in two, half on quad bikes and half on buggys. A lap around the car park and a giant puddle later and we were off! The tour took us through sugar cane fields, through a village of Haitian people who work with the sugar cane, through fields to the river and at one point down a partially constructed motorway! It definitely wasn't a guided tour, the only information you get is when you stop in the sugar cane for a drink but in a way that didn't matter you only needed to see. There is another stop at a sort where you can buy art works, wooden items and use the bathroom - if you're brave. I would thoroughly recommend it for anyone wanting to do something a bit different but be aware it's off road and the suspension is slightly lack lustre, definitely not for anyone with a back problem. You will need old clothes because to be honest you will want to throw them away afterwards - you're disgusting by the end of it, especially it's rained recently!

Booked this as something different and a bit of fun at the end of our holiday in the Dominican Republic. Had almost 3 hours on the buggies driving through sugar cane, dirt tracks, along rivers, and through loads of puddles! We trashed all our clothes, so wear something old! And we did drive through the puddles on purpose - it is possible to do it and not get totally covered in mud, but that was the fun of it for us!

Definitely worth a go if you're in the Bayhibe / La Romana area.

The ATV's and Dune Buggies are very dangerous. The brakes don't work. They would never pass any type of inspection to be legal and safe to ride by U.S. standards. The staff are not nice and like to make fun of people. They encourage the other clientele to splash and spray each other with mud and manure. You will ruin your clothes and your spirit. Don't waste your money.

We stayed at the Coral Canoa which is in La Romana. You shouldn't miss this tour especially staying here because it is really close...
This was by far our favorite excursion and we did a few... This one is great because it gives you a change of scenery from the beach.
We started out driving thru the countryside, villages, sugarcane fields, a pit stop for some fresh fruit and great art, and down to the Chavon river.
This excursion is really exciting and adventerous.
We were the only English speakers on our tour (french and italian) and they have guides that will speak in virtually any language... We were lucky enough to have our own private English speaking guide who was great. He told so much information about the country the sugar cane business and his own story. Don't forget to tip the guides!
We drove thru a village to see how some of the most poor people live. It really makes you appreciate the luxuries that we take for granted. BE CAREFUL because the children in the village will dart out in front of you to ask for candy or money. The people in front of us threw some candy to the kids and they jumped out the get it and almost got plowed over by the other ATV's.
The stop at the river was great! Some people went swimming and it was a nice break.
BEWARE: YOU WILL GET DIRTY!!!!! The terrain is rough and if its been raining, there are puddles everywhere... Its all part of the fun but my tennis shoes were ruined even after trying to wash them at the hotel after the tour.... Bring some beat up tennis shoes that you are willing to toss after the tour.
THIS ACTIVITY IS NOT TO MISS IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE REAL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!
take a look at my pics to see our CRAZY WHEELS excursion.
