We were taking an eight day carnival cruise and wanted an excursion for La Romana that focused more on birds and wildlife rather than history or old buildings. I was so very lucky to find this place. I emailed the company three weeks before our cruise and set up our excursion via email. The cost for our 5 hour excursion was half the price of any carnival excursions and was the best excursion we had during our entire trip. I must warn that there was a little confusion when we got off the boat trying to find our taxi because the staff at the port doesn’t really support visitors using outside companies. This is by no means the fault of this tour company. So be advised if you are visiting from a cruise, you may have to ask a few people before finding the taxi that was sent for you (there is a prearranged taxi to pick you up at the cruise port).
We arrived by taxi to the river and boarded the riverboat. The ride up the river was peaceful and we enjoyed seeing farmers, fishermen, and loads of wildlife during the boat ride. We arrived at the ranch and began a tour. There is a wonderful butterfly conservation area and the staff gave a wonderful presentation about the lifecycle of butterflies. The kids that were there while we were visiting were even able to hold some caterpillars. As a grownup, I even thought it was cool. There was a short hike through the jungle (rainforest) where we were able to see purple hummingbirds (something I have never seen before). We held snakes, iguanas, and birds. The iguanas were so very cool!! The staff also served fresh fruit, bread, and a ton of drinks. Unlike cruise excursions where the alcohol is watered down or drinks are limited to water, here the liquor comes straight from the bottle and you can decide how weak or strong you want your drink. You are not limited to water as well if you prefer to not partake in alcohol. I was also surprised by the sheer amount of alcohol offered. The fresh fruit was AMAZING!! I cannot tell you how much fresh mango I had!! We had a great time and cannot believe the value. You get so much more at this place than you pay for! A+++

Our family (eleven folks) had a wonderful, five hour experience touring the jungles of the Dominican Republic. We had a great time on their river boat, met some great local people, saw many, many birds and other wildlife. We all enjoyed the local rum and lots of delicious fruits and breads. The ranch and facilities were very clean and ordered. The ranch is quite a beautiful place with lots of opportunities to see and touch various wild life. We had four small children (ages 3 to 7) and they loved the adventure. We....old folks, also had a great time. The fee is small and well worth the price!!!
