Went on the tour of La Flor Dominicana Cigar Factory with my wife last week while on a cruise stop at La Romana. Took a 15 minute cab ride out to La Estancia to visit the small version of the factory instead of going to the larger factory near the port. We are so glad that we made the trip. This might be a smaller version of the factory but we where given a private tour of the entire cigar manufacturing process from the soil to the box. The guide was knowledgeable and very intuitive about our understanding of the process and of our cigar preferences and tailored her discussion to our level of competency. The rollers were very gracious with their time and allowed us to observe for quite some time. After the factory tour, we perused the large assortment of sticks and were guided through the myriad of choices that matched our preferences. After purchasing enough cigars to make my buddies in the States jealous, we were allowed to go back into the rolling area where a master roller sat me down at one of the stations and instructed me on rolling several cigars (none of which would meet their quality control standards), but I had a blast and we all shared a few laughs. I also got the distinct pleasure of meeting the Master Blender Jose Seijas who was extremely gracious, we took a few pictures together and he actually gave me one of his newest blends that will be out next year! For a true Cigar Aficionado this was a great experience and a highlight of my entire trip. Thank you so much!
