We booked our trip through the Bahia Principe La Romana.
The main reason for going on this trip was to snorkle as the sea by our hotel was cloudy due to the rains. A boat took us from the beach of the hotel and after half an hour we reached Catalina Island. The water was beautifully clear and the beaches were clean. Each tour appears to have it's own area of sunbeds and eating areas.
We were provided with equipment and were able to snorkel for about 40 minutes before heading back to the beach area to rejoin members of our trip who just wanted to stay on the beach. There was a bar where drinks were served and snorkels were available to use in the water. The water was beautiful and just as you imagine the Caribbean to be.
The food was excellent and lobster could be purchased for an extra fee.
The boat then returned us to the beach of the hotel by 3:30. Not really a full day trip but we were glad we went.
Be prepared for a bouncy journey with some very loud Dominican music to get you in the mood.
We booked two trips with them; they told us to be at 7:00 am ( we couldn’t have breakfast because it started at that time) and they arrived at almost 8:00 a.m.
It would have been nice to know before, as we’re on vacation and would have prefered to rest.
They always tell you you have a 10, 15% if you book here in puntacana, real fact is that each tour is not less than 89 dollars ( isla saona) and 99 santa catalina.
If you really want to experience the island, you should stay more than one day. There is so much to do and great places to eat and shop. It's definitely for the outdoor-type of people, many outdoor activities- some on land and some in the water. Pick a time the weather is good. It was great when we went in July.
We just got back from Punta Cana and took a trip to Catalina Island on a sailboat which we did snorkleing and then went to the beach with our tour, open bar and amazing DR authentic food! We even did a couples massage for 70 bucks for my fiance and I for 60 minutes from the locals. All the locals we so happy and cheerful, next time we visit we are going to do this trip twice cause it was so much fun.
Beach was amazing
